With its continued excellence in sound reproduction, Yamaha has once again created a versatile stereo receiver for the music lover in you. The R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver offers superb functionality and dual-room capability that will be hard to match at this price point. Yamaha exclusive features like ToP-ART (Total Performance Anti-Resonance Technology), multi-zone compatibility, ART Base chassis construction with gold-plated speaker terminals and dual aluminum heat sinks for crisp, clean sound make this an awesome receiver. Most of the receiver's audio processing is handled automatically, with little intervention on your part. However, it is so advanced; its discrete output reproduces music with unmatched sonic clarity and dynamic power.
In a nutshell, the R-S700 is a 2 x 100W (@ 8 ohms) stereo receiver capable of delivering breathtaking stereo sound. It features a ton of input jacks, a subwoofer out, individual treble, bass, and balance controls, Remote Interactive (RI) port, A/B speaker switching, banana plug speaker posts, and an AM/FM tuner. Because of the high efficiency of its design, this powerful receiver produces exceptional sound quality, and clarity in every audible detail.

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
I use my R-S700 to drive a small system in my bedroom. It is coupled to a pair of Klipsch Reference RB-52's & a small subwoofer. The sound is clear, precise and soundstage full. The sound is voiced as decidedly neutral - not warm & not clinically dry. My only complaint - and I hesitate to say complaint because I enjoy the unit so much - is that there is no bass management functions. I'm quite happy that there is a sub-out at this price point; however, it would be very hand to be able to manipulate crossover/low-pass point as well as sub volume from front control &/or the remote. As it is, I have to control these parameters directly on the sub - inconvenient, but far from a deal breaker.
I actually purchased this unit as a stand in while my reference pre-amp was out for repairs. It performed admirably in my reference audio system as well, which is why I decided to keep it to replace an older receiver in my BR system.
Two thumbs up, esp for the MSRP.

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
Only one con: Nobody in town had banana plugs to fit, and manual did not give size for anyone to order them. Lucily, a call to an online electronics supply and they were quickly identified and in the mail.
Pro: This amp was our Christmas gift to ourselves and it is awesome, powerful, sounds great. Coming off an aged quadraponic system, we wanted to retain 4-speakers per room, and the Yamaha complies and makes them sound incredible!
It was easy to hook up a varety of components, including tape, CD, burner, turntable, MP3 unit and even a speaker switch unit for whole house capability. The receiver switch which monitors the ohm usage so no damage will result from a drop in ohms is a much appreciated feature. In one afternoon (once the ordered banana plugs arrived) full, defined sound was filling the house, with the switch of a button. The speakers sounded like anew.Listening was like being in a concert hall, with the Yamaha outperforming our quadraphonic predessor.

Hi I bought this to upgrade an Old Hafler H-200 amp. It's like night and day. The receiver does more than what i asked for. Heck I haven't even figured out the other features on it yet. It's Not A Surrond Amp No. I just wanted a true Stereo Amp to complement My 18" Sub. True Triad Stereo. I Love It and No Regrets. They're may be something that I will not like about it. But not as yet. It's Awesome :)
Thank You

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
This unit displays great "tonality," "musicality," "staging," and "timbre." I'm being sarcastic - I don't know what those words mean (they're used in audiphile magazines to promote a clubby atmosphere.) What I do know is that the Yamaha R-S700 performs flawlessly on the test bench and in real life with distortion figures that are nearly immeasurable and certainly inaudable except to perhaps Superman. The unit has a frequency response range wider than the hearing of any human I know. You don't even need to listen to it (or any modern receiver for that matter before you buy it; I didn't.) as the system's speakers and speaker placement have a far greater and measurable impact on audio reproduction. I bought this to drive some 4 Ohm Magnepan speakers I have ordered and so far it's only been hooked up to some Sony speakers I had sitting idle. Sounds great hooked up to them so I'm expecting some "Wow" when my Maggies get here.

I drive a pair of Paradigm Titan Monitors with a Marantz CD player and Pro-Ject turntable and occassionally an iPod. This is a secondary one room system in my house and I love it. My ipod through the Yamaha docking station doesn't sound as good on this unit as it does my RX-V3900 but that unit was $1300 more than the R-S700 so that's to be expected. I love Yamaha!

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
I was pleased with the clean styling, flexibility, smooth sound, and control options. I use the FM, Line-input, Phono, and CD inputs.
My FM listening (24/7 classical) is on the edge of the signal coverage, so in STEREO mode I don't have full quieting. MONO mode is quiet and eliminates the wide-band white noise. Cannot review the AM reception, as I have high local noise level.
The audio line input from my HDTV is welcome and enhances my television viewing experience. The PHONO input was quite welcome and performs with smooth amplification, as I enjoy an extensive library of vinyl LPs.
It is convenient to have a separately designated CD input, easily selected remotely.

Great sound through Monitor Audio RX6s. Easy to setup and plenty of options for inputs. If you're looking for something other than a surround sound receiver this is the unit for you.

I needed something to replace my 20 year old Yamaha integrated amp. Was afraid to go with a receiver but decided to go for it. I am very pleased with the product. I've had it a month now and it sounds great with my Klipsch speakers. Having to get used to the continuouis variable volume control (my old one didn't have that). I didn't want all the extras and this was as basic as I could find. It has plenty of power to drive my speakers and sounds great at all volumns. I have a cd player, cassette player and turntable hooked up to it. All sound great. Why did I wait so long to buy one?!

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
Bought R-S700 as replacement for 20-year-old very good stereo receiver. Driving speakers in two rooms: pair of Focal 716s and a pair of Bose wall speakers. The R-S700 brings out more from both sets of speakers; more of what I call presence, like you're in the room with the musicians. I play mostly classical and choral music and am very pleased with the receiver.

I bought this receiver to upgrade my system and have been very pleased with the results - seems to have endless power and I am driving two sets of speakers at all times. The sound is clear and transparent from the lowest lows to the highest highs and very musical. Love the retro look - well done Yamaha!

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
I upgraded from a 10 yo Onkyo AV and this system is great. Surround sound is dynamic with 5 8Ohm speakers (WSC-1's & Klitsch). Combined with the BD-1000 it is a great system. But as I still appreciate the superior sound quality of vinyl I found that the 700 needs a preamp to use my turntable, which my older AV did not need. Also, apparently due to the BD-1000 combination I needed to change a setting to keep the AV from reverting to AV4 (unconnected) when I loaded other devices. It is now corrected thanks to Yamaha support, but was not explained in the instructions. Otherwise setup was not a problem. These are the only two minor issues in an otherwise great AV.

Comments about Yamaha R-S700 Natural Sound Stereo Receiver:
Since the mid 70's I have been enjoying my YAMAHA CR-1040. There were few problems, rectified by YAMAHA's service department; by and large it provided superb service and good clean sound, however it died recently, and rather than repair it I decided to replace it.
I chose the R-S700 Receiver and it is being used with the over 30 year old turntable, CD player, cassette deck, and a slightly newer MIDI synthesizer. Despite being a new unit, it is not out of place; it looks like it belongs. I'm not into satellite radio, MP3 or Bluetooth, nor do I require the Zone 2 function, but it doesn't hurt to have these features available for the future.
The price was right, and delivery better than expected I'm very pleased with this purchase.
When installing the unit I found that I could not comply with the recommended minimum clearances specified in the manual. I placed it the cabinet used to house the CR-1040 and have monitored it after hours of use and found that it does not overheat. It is barely warm.
