Nikon's MB-D11 Multi Power Battery Pack is a grip that attaches to the Nikon D7000 camera. It provides extended battery power with the batteries (not included) in the grip, plus giving you a better, more secure and stable hold on the camera, making it easier to handhold at lower shutter speeds. The battery pack is supplied with two battery trays--one that holds an EN-EL15 rechargeable battery, and one that holds 6 AA batteries. If you have a D7000 and big hands like I do, this MB-D11 is a must have! Before I had this grip my hands were cramped up because there just wasn't enough room. It was really annoying, my pinky finger kept falling off. I had enough of it, so I bought this MB-D11 grip from Nikon and I don't think I'll ever take it off, of course if I used two batteries then I would.. but I only one.

This grip as well made, its made out of magnesium alloy and is weather sealed just like the D7000 it self. All the buttons have the nice rubber feeling to them, just like the D7000.

I have had not had any issues with this grip, others said that it wiggles and stuff.. mine is nice and tight, solid and feels like it is part of the camera. Well done Nikon!

I would stay away from the 3rd party knock off grips. I've heard too many horror stories from other photographers buying the 3rd party grips and they fried their camera because of the wiring inside the grip is bad or something. Just go with the legit Nikon grip.. its well worth it!

I would like the thank B&H for being extremely fast on shipping my order.. only took a couple days with free shipping! I just love these guys!

I read that this multi-power grip could be used with the AC power supply EH 5A. One reason I got this battery pack is because I have the EH 5A and the EP-5B adapter was not available when I bought my camera (and not even the extremely knowledgeable sales person, who I've known for years, was aware that it was required). Nowhere does it say that the MB-D11 grip requires the EP-5B. I figured I'd just be able to plug the AC power supply directly into the battery grip and shoot as long as I needed. Well, forget that. If you want to be able to use it with the AC power supply, you STILL have to purchase the adapter. If it's in stock, buy it, because they can be hard to come by. I am NOT happy about this. One more thing to buy, one more critical little piece of plastic to lose or break.

Other than that, the grip fits tight enough to the camera without too much of a problem. The wheels are a bit tighter than the ones on the camera, but not problematically so. It balances OK with the kit lens on it, and the electronics seem to be OK so far.

One good thing is that you can use fast-recharge NiMH double-A's with it, and they will last longer than alkalines. While the NiMH quick-charge batteries are pricey, if you get a dozen of them and two chargers you can be re-charged in 15 minutes. I've got the grip and three Nikon batteries, but on video shoots the NiMH's have already saved me a couple of times in the month I've owned the camera (I work long hours and I expect my equipment to do the same).

If you're getting this grip solely for the extra battery time, save your money. Spend it on more Nikon batteries. If you do a lot of video shoots where you can hook up to AC power, get the EP-5B adapter, and the AC power supply. In terms of stills photography, wedding photographers or photojournalists who don't have the time to stop and switch-out batteries might need this grip, but even they might not want to use it because of the extra weight.

Now, if Nikon made a special double-power battery that fit into this grip, then I would recommend it. Otherwise, it's not really worth it.

Comments about Nikon MB-D11 Multi Power Battery Pack:

I found the D7000 a bit small in my hand, while its a great camera the thought of a battery pack/vertical grip seemed to be a natural addition. I find the MB-D11 very comfortable and solid, I've only used it for a short time but I really like the way it feels in my hand. Its quick to detach to change out the battery and although the connection is a simple design it works well and holds securely. I've made a minor adjustment to my camera bag to ensure the camera sits down securely with the addition of the new vertical grip, but if that is the only inconvenience then this was certainly money well spent.

The build quality of this Nikon battery pack is far superior to third party brands of this type. Heavy duty and professional, this battery pack doubles battery life, and allows for vertical photography with ease. High price, but worth the piece of mind that the product will work on command.

Comments about Nikon MB-D11 Multi Power Battery Pack:

I've been doing an extensive research on whether to buy this grip or a 3rd party one and I decided to buy this one. Even though it costs $-$ more I thought that it would be wiser to invest in an authentic product rather than in some cheap copy. One of the driving factors in my decision was that the 3rd party battery grips don't have the ability to switch from an internal battery to the external one (or vice versa) when the first designated battery runs out. I think that it beats the purpose of the grip. Surely, there are other advantages of the battery grip, such as better handling of the camera, additional buttons, great option to take portrait photos, etc. However, I thought that if I buy 3rd party battery grip it would simply serve more as an additional battery holder. For me, the automatic ability of switching from one battery to another was a deal-maker. Maybe for others it's not. I do have to mention that the grip does move just slightly and using one of those straps that are screwed into the tripod mount factors in, but I'm still very pleased with this battery grip and have no regrets of paying a higher price.

Bought this for my D7000 not so much for the extra battery back up but more for the convenience of shooting vertical. Seem well constructed and installation was easy. Nice that it came with the extra battery trays although I bought and extra Nikon battery to go along

Comments about Nikon MB-D11 Multi Power Battery Pack:

The MB-D11 Nikon battery pack holds one EL15 lithium ion battery for the Nikon D7000 body so that you can have two fully charged batteries on board the camera. The Battery Pack also comes with a slide in holder for 6 AA batteries but I'd not expect to get the same amount of power from them as an EN-EL15 Li-Ion battery.

The MB-D11 also can double as a convenient portrait mode grip with main dial, and AE-L/AF-L, and quick dial controls. There is a control lock which you must turn to activate the grip controls to minimize accidental focusing or shutter release from the grip's duplicate controls.

The D7000 usage protocol is to deplete the user specified battery first and then automatically switch to the alternate battery power source. Order of battery depletion is specified in D7000 custom menu d14. Custom control menu f10 enables assigning the MB-D11 AE-L button to alternate functions. I use mine for back button focusing and it works just like the similarly assigned AE-L button on the body. If one uses AA cells use custom menu d13 to set the type of AA batteries in use so that the D7000 logic can more accurately gauge remaining power available.

Mounting and removing the grip from the bottom of the body is done with a conveniently large knob but if you don't want to have to remove the grip to recharge the primary battery just specify the grip's battery for first use instead of the primary battery in the D7000. Unless you go through a lot of juice on every shoot you'll only have to remove the grip to extract the primary battery for recharging on rare occasion.

The grip surface perfectly matches the D7000 rubberized surface and texture and it feels solid. Accept no substitutes if you want/need Nikon quality. There are a number of knock-offs and from the reviews I've read they're not always reliable. My MB-D11 has been working for several weeks shooting several hundred shots a day and improves the balance of my D7000 with my Sigma 150-500 telephoto lens for handheld shooting of birds so even though I rarely exceed the power in the grip held EN-EL15 I keep the grip on just for balance and control.

This battery grip is amazing! I love the added "hand" real estate this grip offers when shooting. It just makes the camera feel extremely nice in the hand. I also love the functionality of the buttons as well as the sliding dial that locks the grip to the camera. None of the dials are too lose or too tight, they are just right. It gives you the option to use a second rechargeable camera battery or regular batteries or no batteries. I would absolutely recommend this battery grip to anyone. Very solid construction and very well designed. Feels great, excellent quality, I love it!

Comments about Nikon MB-D11 Multi Power Battery Pack:

I wish that I had purchased this component when I bought my camera a couple years ago. It has given me better control of the camera with all types of lenses. Fit and finish are superb without any sign of wiggle or play with the connection to the body.

The only design feature that causes a little pause, and I'm not sure there is a way around this, is my quick-connect plate for my Manfroto tripod. This, along with my Black Rapid strap connection, gets in the way of the hand when using the camera on a vertical/portrait orientation for shooting. Granted, when using my 70-200 I connect the Black Rapid to the tripod ring of the lens, the problem is eliminated. I just hate to return to using the standard camera strap. Right now it isn't a deal breaker, I will manage.

All in all the grip has proven to be a worthwhile investment. It was a challenge to spend the extra money for the Nikon brand, but after reading the reviews and comparing it to the off-brand reviews at nearly two-thirds less cost, I still couldn't buy an off-brand. As a matter of fact, based on my satisfaction with this grip I will be ordering the Nikon grip for my D90 as well.

                                Nikon never disappoints.

Looks and feels great! The only odd thing is getting used to the viewfinder being lower when shooting verticlally. I don't need two batteries in the camera, so the poor design of having to remove the grip to replace the in-camera battery is moot. Removing the grip is not a big deal, easy enough. It fits perfectly with no rattles. Periodically I make sure the lock is firm, just like I used to do with the tripod quick release plate, pnly easier. My tripod Q2 adapter is just as firm as before.

Have the MB-D80 for my D90 and it works like a charm. Was hesitant about the MB-D11 because some reviews claimed it would not tighten down and remained slightly loose. After some further investigating of 3rd party products decided to try the MB-D11. All I can say is that it lives up to the quality one would expect from Nikon. It has been great. Use it for sports photography and portraits.
