I bought the drive to automate backups from the ASUS PC I also bought from B&H. The PC has a single 750 GB drive partitioned into two logical drives. The WD SmartWare can only handle one drive. (I opened a case with WD and confirmed this.) Now, I have had to reformat the drive, and am having to figure out a backup strategy and implement backup jobs to protect the data I have on the two drives. Not the convenience I thought I was paying for.

It was easy to format and has done a fine job thusfar, giving me piece of mind that my files are backed up. I have another 1 TB My Book that I bought years ago and is still going today. I am storing my old one in a remote location as a backup in case of fire etc. I highly recommend this product.

My number one complaint about this drive is that it's just too difficult to turn off. Although it has a power button on the back, its apparantly little more than decoration. Even WD tech support couldn't answer my one simple question: "How do I turn off this drive?" I called several times, and each time I was given a ridiculous solution...including disconnecting the power cord.

Just purchased this for storing my images. It is very quiet and very easy to install. However, an IT friend of mine just had to replace a part due to overheating on a same external drive that I have. He said the hard drive was fine but was a small part on the board that accepts the power and usb plug that overheated. Surprised there were no vents in this area of the case for a little air flow. However, this could be an isolated case. So far so good.
