We've been using inkjet at home but because we only print occasionally (less than 200 pages/year), the print heads are always clogging. Since we don't print in colors anymore (cheaper to order color photos online), we decided to replace the inkjet with a laser printer when it clogged again - now no more costly inkjet cartridges to buy just to waste on cleaning print heads.
We hope this printer will last as long as our old inkjet, which served us for at least 5 years. We don't need the wireless right now but may in the future so this is just right. We print mostly text and the print quality looks fine for our purpose.
Pro: 250 sheet enclosed paper tray (a big step up from our inkjet); very fast startup time (a few seconds), wireless, auto duplex; easy setup with good and clear instructions; affordable replacement toner (compared to other brands like Samsung, which also has low cost laser printers in the market); quiet when in stand-by mode.
Con: not serious ones - footprint is much bigger than our inkjet, but I guess it's a common size for laser printers. No connection cable provided - we have extra USB and Ethernet cables at home so it's not a problem for us but for others they'll have to go out and buy some. Also the paper handling is very noisy, but there's been no jamming so far.
Laser printers seem to be coming down in price quickly. A few days after I ordered this model another web site has it for ten bucks less. That was okay, I can live with it. Then another day past and I saw the HL2240 (w/o network or duplex features) for half the price of the HL2270DW - even though I had wanted a model that we can expand on, the very cheap price made it very tempting to return this one and get the HL2240 and use the savings to buy a high capacity toner cartridge. But in the end I decided to stick to the HL-2270DW because we like the duplexing and will probably get a laptop soon so the wireless capability will be useful. Hope this will last long enough to justify for the extra cost. The next time we buy a printer hopefully will be a color laser, and the price will be about the same as this one - is it possible?

I have a previous review about this product dated 10Oct11, since you can't update previous review posting, I am posting additional info about my recent experience with this product.
I purchased my unit last Sep2011. After a few months of use (3months and 1 week) and only about 110 printed pages, all of unit's LED lights began flashing. According to the reference manual, my unit is indicating a service call and that the error is 'Main PCB Failure'. I immediately called up the support center for Brother. After a few minutes of troubleshooting with customer support, we have confirmed that my unit needs a major service. Since my unit is still under warranty, the technician said that Brother will be replacing my defective unit with a new factory refurbished unit and that it will arrive within 2 days. Also, I need to pack the defective unit in the packaging in which the refurbished unit came and send it back to Brother.
This morning, I just received the replacement unit. Setting up the unit was easy. I recommend getting the latest driver/software from Brother's support site since the installation disk is a bit outdated.
Regarding the refurbished unit, I was able to set it up to the wireless network without any problems. After the initial setup, I tried to print some test pages and the unit won't print out the test pages and the settings pages. The error message indicates that there are no paper on tray 1 (T1) eventhough I have several sheets in the tray. After consulting the support site, one of the solutions presented was to clean-up the paper pick-up rollers with a damp cloth. After wiping out the pick-up rollers and several retries, the unit finally printed out the test pages. Kind of frustrating to have to clean up the unit for it to work properly.
I am now down-rating this product as only 3 stars, since my first unit broke down in such a short period. And the fact that the new refurbished unit did not work smoothly out of the box. The reason that I'm not rating this 2 or 1 star is that my customer support experience with them was satisfactory. They replaced my defective unit and it arrived in 2 days just as they promised. Also, I still like the features of this product.
For owners who just recently purchased this, I recommend that you register your unit just to be safe.
One more thing that is bugging me though, according to their support site, there are 2 authorized service centers from my area. So when we troubleshooted my first unit, the Brother technician didn't think twice about getting my unit replaced. I was expecting them to tell me to bring it to a service center. This then brings the question - could this be a known issue? - that certain batches have this kind of defect. I can't seem to find any reported issue similar to mine around the internet.
I hope this helps some current owner and other prospective owners.

I use this printer every day for text and monochrome graphics. The duplexing is a great feature, as well as the WiFi setup. The one thing I don't like is that the fan is noisy and runs way-too-long even if I print only one page.
My previous printer was the Brother HL-1440, that one I had printing for over 11 years. Hope the HL-2270DW will give me the same performance and last as long.

Comments about Brother HL-2270DW Compact B/W Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex:
I used color inkjet printers for years, but the cost of the ink was getting out of hand, even though I was buying refilled cartridges. My wife and I realized that we really weren't doing that much color printing, so we started looking at laser printers. Lots of people seemed happy with the Brother HL-2270DW, so I bought one. So far, we're very happy with it. We have a desktop computer to which the printer is directly connected, and also a laptop. Since this printer has Wi-Fi capability, we can print directly from the laptop without having to connect a printer cable to it. This is very handy since the laptop is normally used in a different room from where the printer is located.
I also found out that the Brother toner cartridge can be refilled very economically several times before it has to be replaced, at a much lower cost per page than with inkjet cartridges.
This isn't a heavy-duty commercial printer by any means, and you wouldn't want to use it in a busy office environment, but if you just need an inexpensive printer for light to medium volume, this is a good choice.

I'm a teacher, and need reliable, instant prints from PDF and web-generated documents, two-sided if possible. This machine cranks them out. Though Brother makes great supplies and parts for this printer, 3rd-party toner/drums function flawlessly, saving hundreds every year. I've used it via ethernet and USB, but haven't had much success with wireless capability.I liked it so much, I got another for my home.

Comments about Brother HL-2270DW Compact B/W Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex:
I live in a studio apartment and am an energy efficiency specialist. So, space-savings and the ability to print back-to-back were the main reasons I chose this printer. My prior experience with the HL-2040 was all positive as well (except for when it finally "died"--apparently other people had the same experience of a permanent error message when no paper jam existed--rendering the machine useless after 4 yrs of great service). For the costs savings for a personal laser printer, can't really complain though.Back to the 2270...so far, good. Does what it's supposed to do. The ONLY reason I can't give it 5 stars is that every time I power up and every time it powers to print, all the lights in my apartment flicker. I was tempted to return the item out of fear that I'd cause a power outtage in my 6-unit bldg. Fortunately, so far, no neighbor complaints and no black out. Not a small fear to live with, but don't think it's Brother's fault. But, would suggest they look into the issue for future models.

Set up might not be as smooth as I expected, because the CD was out of date software, so that I have to download firmware and printer software. It took me about 45min to complete setting up for WIFI. Once it's done, the printer is working great.

Comments about Brother HL-2270DW Compact B/W Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex:
I have read reviews that people had WIFI connectivity loss problems, after they have turned the printer off. Or problems of the fan running for too long.
I haven't seen any of these.
The provided Disc was too old for OSX Lion, so I went to the Brother website, and downloaded the driver, utilities etc for this printer.
I upgraded the firmware right away.
Printer works quick, and great. I leave it turned off. When I need to print, I just flip the power switch. I send the file to the printer, and maybe in 15 seconds, when the printer finds the network, it prints.
Fan turns on for about 5 seconds when the printer is turned on first, and runs for about 5 seconds after it has printed. I don't have any issues where the fan is loud for 9 minutes after printing. Like I have read in some reviews.
Great printer, slick design, does not take a lot of space. And most of all I love that is WiFi. I wish it was both wifi, and compatible with phones, ipad, etc. Oh well, can't have everything.

Comments about Brother HL-2270DW Compact B/W Laser Printer with Wireless Networking & Duplex:
The printer is fine but I had to have someone help me install it that I had to pay almost as much as the printer. I could not understand the installation instructions, tried to get support from Brother via the internet but it was also convoluted. I still do not have it set up as a wireless printer as even the tech-savvy person who was assisting me gave up after almost one hour. The directions were useless.I do like the fact that I can do two sided printing.

This is by far the cheapest/best (per page) printer that I have ever owned. I have two. The first is the 2170W model. It is just like this one but without duplex. I've had it for two years. The 2270DW I have only had for a few months. I bought this one because I needed the duplex feature.
PROS:
Fast / Great looking docs / holds a lot of paper / toner is CHEAP! (even cheaper if you use non-OEM toner) / reliable

Pros:
Setup is simple. No problem hooking it up to my wireless network. Warm up time is a couple of seconds. Duplex works fine. Envelopes can exit in the back, eliminating any curl. Print quality is excellent, even in Toner Saver mode. A quick google search can reveal ways to get more prints out of your expired toner cartridge.
Cons: Envelopes need to be fed one at a time. Brother shouldn't have to make you jump through hoops to utilize all of the toner in the cartridge.

For my needs this is a great printer for low volume printing at home. I work on copiers for a living and know how they work so I'm not sure how long this printer would churn out thousands of prints like a digital copier would but for typical home use its tops with me. It has duplexing and is wireless so you can even print from every computer in the house. Also here's a cool tip. If you wanna print from your iPhone or any iOS device, just use software called "Fingerprint 2" by collobos that makes this an airprint printer. I used to have a Kyocera printer but couldn't find any drivers for anything newer than Vista 32bit. Since I have Windows 7 and Macintosh I was out of luck So I was sure glad to find this Brother printer. Brother supports their products much better.

It was received in prestine condition and worked with no issues. The packaging was professionally done and protected the product. I would purchase again from this supplier. Oh wait I purchased several things in the past from this company and have not been disappointed. Its important to buy with confidence.

CONS: Noisy during printing

Should have bought a laser printer a long time ago, I'm finished with inkjet printers. This is a good one. B&H is a great place to buy as well.
