Got a lot of power...I like.
I am having trouble with the power output on the auto setting. It is blowing out the faces of people.
I have put on the diffuser and an external diffuser, HOPEFULLY this will correct the problem.

I can not tell how good it is because it only work for a short time.[...] I did sent it to NJ and 40 days has gone by and I do not have it back yet.The factory support is very slow. I may have to purchase another flash if this one is not returned soon. For sure, it wont be a Vivitar and it will be from B&H

OK flash had to use diffuser because it was a strong flash. The recycle time is the only reason I have a problem.

Comments about Vivitar DF-293 Bounce Zoom Swivel Flash for Canon:
When looking for a bounce flash for my Canon XS I was shocked by the price they sell...in particular the Canon flashes, which literally can be more expensive than my camera. I decided to take a chance with the Vivitar flash since it was on of the most affordable ones available.
My main disappointment is that the manual isn't helpful at all...I mean, it doesn't really give any information, unless perhaps where the power button is located...
For that reason, I am still struggling with the flash and haven't figured out how to use it well...I end up using the manual settings, which are somewhat cumbersome to set up. However, once I am done setting it up, the flash does perform well...although some trial-and-error pictures are necessary before I get it right. Unfortunately, the flash does not retain the latest settings, so if you turn it off you will have to go through the same set up process again.
Another downside is that it looks and feels like a cheap device. But I guess that's what you get when you are price sensitive. All in all, seems like a reasonable "first bounce flash", but I would definitely consider investing on a better flash eventually.

Comments about Vivitar DF-293 Bounce Zoom Swivel Flash for Canon:
The TTL works well for all my Canon lenses. The recycle time is slower than I expected. The infra-red focus doesn't work on Canon cameras. It also isn't set-up for off-camera work.
