Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student Edition 2011 (Family Pack):
I've been using Office 2011 for a while and it has been relatively easy to use once you disable the Ribbon (though you'll need to bring it back for some functions). Using Track Changes in long documents would cause Word to crash prior to a recent update and you will occasionally have locking or permissions problems with Office documents on shared network folders in a Mac environment.
Most people don't require the additional functions that Outlook offers for email clients (particularly clients of Microsoft Exchange Server), so you'll get good value from the 3 core Office applications for 3 computers: Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. They are reasonably stable at this point and you can use Visual Basic macros on 2011 Office apps.
One of the weaknesses of the various incarnations of Office is backward compatibility. That trend continues here: you will occasionally encounter inconsistencies when attempting to open or convert documents saved in various editions of Office, PC and Mac, through the years.
This edition also entitles users to a year of Office 365 for 5 Macs or PCs in your family. You must activate Office 2011 by April 30, 2013 and redeem the offer by May 31, 2013. Note that Office 365 is subscription software, so the applications will operate with reduced functionality if you do not subscribe the next year.
Microsoft has changed their licensing model so these Family Packs have been discontinued. Buy them while you still can.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student Edition 2011 (Family Pack):
MS is pushing their cloud Office 365 product for a yearly rental fee and will no longer be offering the family license packs with a perpetual license. Everybody's needs are different but this package will pay for itself for many Mac users.

I have had issues trying to get this software working from the very start. When I enter the code it says it is incorrect, tried five times in a row. I cannot get the office part of the software working at all. Not happy at all. They admit to having issues. Why not correct them.

An upgrade to the Office for Mac software suite, free of the subscription-based cloud services but minus the Entourage Outook application. Comes on physical media DVD-ROM and installs three seat licenses. Great for families.

Comments about Microsoft Office for Mac Home and Student Edition 2011 (Family Pack):
I upgraded to Office 2011 for Mac from Office 2007 for Windows and have had no problems with the change in operating system. Interchangeability of file formats is 100% as promised. Relearning some of the shortcuts is annoying, but compensated by improved visual appearance and intuitive interface in PowerPoint.
