After days of searching and reading over 30+ reviews (no exaggeration) of every brand and website in Tripod-em which I'm sure you did as well!?I decided on the Davis & Sanford MAGNUM XG Grounder Tripod with 3-way fluid pan head in Black. It's Heavy duty 3-section and 3-way fluid head, perfect for field or studio, for digital, photo and video cameras weighing up to 12 lbs (is what it says on the front of the tripods short booklet). What I found-The tripod feel- sturdy and allows my Nikon D90 to sit on a quick release safely and it has a nob that allows me added safety because it's adjustable. I am recommending this tripod to everyone as each of the 3 levers allow you to pan, tilt and adjust the friction/play of this tripod. It comes with a black caring case too. To put the tripod into the case- you must remove the 3 handles that unscrew with ease. So far so good!!I am using this tripod for general photography and video recordings as my Nikon D90 DSLR has a movie mode. I can use it for macro too because the legs allow me to adjust to uneven, short and weird angles. The legs open in two separate sections as most tripods offer. The legs can be adjusted to four different angles at the very top. You'll find four silver buttons. While holding the button adjust the legs, release and your ready. The center post has a bottom hook which can be used to hang a sand bag or your accessories. Great option if your shooting in unstable conditions or climates. Options are the key to successful photographs and video. The center post also separates for low shooting :-)) unscrew the middle of the center post and place the top section with the head back into the tripod. Too easy~I was happy to find a short instructional booklet/card with 3 photos showing Operations of the FX12 Head, Quick Release and the Adjusting Pan & Tilt. I like the fact that the handle screws (one long and 2 short) are available. They don't look or feel cheap. The Construction of the tripod will not disappoint nor embarrass the user as some of the reviews on other brands mentioned. The legs are super strong and my Tripod came in All Black.Did I mention that Davis & Sanford offer a Ten-Year Tripod WARRANTY?! ((BIG SMILE)) fill out the card, place a stamp, send it in and your covered. That says a lot about the company~I'm so happy that my tripod has two bubble features to display balance. One for the tripod legs and the other bubble for my camera unit. Loves it. My tripod feels sturdy and I control the fluidity by turning righty tight-y or lefty loose-y on 3 handles. I was confused at first when I put the handles on tightly and there was no movement. Then I began to adjust the 3 handles and thought that was the coolest thing! ;-)) being able to tilt, pan and control my cameras movement in every direction is priceless. I am so happy I went with this model and not a ball head feature. This will make for smooth transitions during movie mode on my camera. No more shaky videos for me!I gave this Tripod 5 stars because of it's ease in functions, strength of the legs and head, the way it looks, warranty and the price. I will not have to replace this tripod any time soon which will save me money and time.

I use the tripod for video and photo. To hold my panasonic AG-AC7 that I got from BH and my D300s. The tripod is really steady, the weight is fine for the size, easy and fast to expand and pack away. This would be the perfect tripod, BUT I got to say the tripod-head is terrible unsafe, I was shooting with my d300s and it came down, the tripod-head fell down from the main tube. I was going to return this tripod but I am in Costa Rica and shipping it back is expensive, so I got to glue the head to the tube with some super bonder and some MIG welding. The tube and tripod-head trilling is weak, the tripod can hold 12lbs but the tripod-head can´t... is very unsecured for your camera.

Good mount for holding pyrometers and other optical sensors in our lab. Easy to adjust and level. Head is still a bit tight but is already loosening up and soon should be smooth as silk.

The weight bag hook arm could be shorter for lower operating heights.

I was looking for tripod that can handle super-giant 10+ lb astronomical binoculars and at the same time all of my telephoto equipment. So far I'm very pleased with my investment in this product. It's worth every penny.
Rock solid tripod with very fair price.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG Tripod W/FX12 Head:

I bought this to replace a 30'ish year old Velbon that was so heavy but otherwise had nothing to complain about. I feel as if it has too many adjustments and that the three handles can get in the way sometimes when trying to tilt the camera. This worked best for my 300mm lens that has a tripod screw around it so the rotation is done on the lens and not the tripod. The other thing that irked me was that while the legs are adjustable to spread out further than the standard setting you are limited to the positions they 'click' into. The three legs are different lengths which must be a manufacturing defect and I found the levels are pointless as they aren't accurate and one of them is not seated properly. The O-rings that are around the handle threads are very poor quality and have shredded after one day of use. I am not a pro so none of these issues are enough to make me go through the pains of returning it and believe it or not I am generally happy with the tripod.

Needed a heavy duty tripod to hold up a 100mm objective lens spotting scope and was skeptical until I got this and tried it. This is a rock solid tripod with all the features I need for shooting long distance rifle competition. Add ballast on center hook and wind is not a problem.

I bought a 6 pound spotting scope and realized a good tripod is a must. This tripod is perfect and with a little ballast hanging from the included hook, the wind is no longer a problem plus the image is rock steady. You can't beat this for spotting of competition shooting. Fantastic.

For the independent film maker this tripod contains all that you need to shoot smooth video. The best thing about it is its ability to raise about 6' in the air as well as lower to about 6" off the ground. The tripod head isn't necessarily the smoothest but its proficient and with a skilled hand will certainly deliver nice and smooth pans.

Everything about it is great! It's sturdy and will hold very heavy cameras and additional equuipment! The bag is very nice and durable. Easy to carry over your shoulder! There's a hook that hangs down in the middle to hang something heavy on it if you need even more weight for sturdiness. My main interest was a tall tripod because I am tall and this goes to 6'!!!! Love this purchase!!!

I bought this tripod based upon other excellent reviews that I read. I needed one with a fluid head so that I could get the best video shots possible. The D&S Magnum didn't disappoint me. I would definitely recommend this over others in a similar price range. You can purchase a cheap tripod that wobbles, and jerks and will last only a year, or for just $30 dollars more, you can get into a tripod that is stable, well-build and that will last you a lifetime.

Great product that is built to handle rugged use and abuse onsite at a photo or video shoot. I have never seen anything better in this price range. The only reason this did not get five stars is that it is a little bulky, but that is a price I am willing to pay for quality and durability.

Comments about Davis & Sanford MagnumXG Tripod W/FX12 Head:

The MagnumXG Tripod W/FX12 Head by Davis & Sanford is a very good quality product. Comparing the quality of this product to the price I can say it is a very good deal. This tripod is very stable, the camera remain save and stable, which helps to prevent camera falls or tripod fall by their weight of the camera.

I use this product with a Canon EOS 5D MarkII. This tripod upon first inspection, was quite heavy but great quality build. I opened up the package and found the tripod comes unassembled initially. The handles are shipped unassembled. I suggest taking the handles off when you travel with this tripod. they simply unscrew. But not doing so could lead to damage if someone who handles your tripod roughly. When you open the tripod up and extend the legs.. it's about 6 feet tall already and that's great for a tall guy like me.. I'm 6 feet 3 inches tall.
