For dynamic color and B&W professional printing you must consider the Epson Stylus Pro 7890 Wide Format Inkjet Printer. This magnificent machine is capable of handling virtually any media type; rolls or cut sheets up to 24"/610mm wide. It utilizes a compilation of the most recent printer technologies to deliver superior quality photos, graphics, signage and fine art.

At the heart of the Stylus Pro 7890 is Epson's high performance, one-inch wide eight-channel MicroPiezo TFP print head with 360 nozzles per channel. It works in conjunction with the UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta ink system comprised of eight high-density pigment colors including newly formulated green and orange. These high-performance inks provide the 7890 with the ability to deliver stunning prints that are sure to delight and impress. The combination of an extremely wide color gamut, exceptional shadow detail, superb contrast, depth and smooth tonal gradations can only provide the very highest quality imagery.

A standout innovation in Epson's large format printing arsenal is an automatic black ink switching system. This system is a huge improvement over the manual switching system in earlier models that was inconvenient and difficult to use. You can now seamlessly switch between Photo Black and Matte Black inks; the result is optimum black ink density regardless of media type used, with minimal ink usage. Factoring in an outstanding resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi, the Stylus Pro 7890 is more than capable of delivering all that you would expect from a printer of this magnitude.

High-Precision Eight-Channel Epson MicroPiezo TFP Print Head
Epson's Thin Film Piezo (TFP) print head design is capable of handling eight separate ink channels. It features a one-inch wide high-performance print head with 360 nozzles per channel and includes the ultra-convenient auto-sharing black ink channel technology. Plus, it produces variable-sized ink droplets as small as 3.5 picoliters to greatly decrease print times while optimizing photographic quality. The TFP also features low vibration meniscus control for highly accurate dot shape and placement, and an all-new ink-repelling coating dramatically reduces nozzle clogging.
UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta Ink
The UltraChrome K3 with Vivid Magenta Ink is an eight-color, pigment-based ink system utilizing a superior pigment-based ink technology with a unique form of high-density pigments. This formulation delivers a higher density form of magenta pigment for increased color gamut. It also displays significant color gamut improvements in blue and purples. This technology yields stable color immediately after printing with no short-term color shifting, superior scratch resistance, and incredible black density improvements up to 2.6 Dmax with an L* value of approximately 3.0 for any media type. It has Outstanding short-term color stability for mission-critical Improved Microcrystal Encapsulation technology for reduced gloss differential.
User Verified Automatic Black Ink Mode Switching
Epson's MicroPiezo TFP print head technology allows the printer to share the same physical ink channel between both Matte and Photo Black inks. The correct black ink mode is automatically used depending upon the printer driver or front control panel settings. To reduce user errors, the user must confirm the switch at the front control panel.
Dual-Black Ink Mode Technology
Two different black ink technologies can be used to optimize the black density for virtually any media type. Photo Black ink can produce professional results on any media type, but is optimized for traditional photographic papers. Matte Black ink can produce even better results on specific matte-type papers such as Enhanced Matte, Hot Press and Cold Press Fine Art Paper, and many others.
AccuPhoto HD Screening
AccuPhoto HD Screening is an Advanced screening algorithm, resulting in prints with superior color and clarity. It enables a maximum resolution of 2880 x 1440 dpi for incredibly sharp text and line art. Additionally, it produces extremely fine blends and photographic transitions, and extremely accurate highlight-to-shadow detail. It yields prints with no photographic graininess due to the printing process, and ensures consistent color balance regardless of the viewing light source. When combined with the precise dot placement accuracy of the Epson MicroPiezo TFP print head, overall photographic print quality is dramatically improved.
PreciseColor Manufacturing
PreciseColor Manufacturing is a unique production technology to ensure printer-to-printer color consistency. Colorimetric calibration is performed during the manufacturing process which automatically evaluates and adjusts the color performance of each printer produced. The result is extreme color repeatability for demanding color performance over time and it completely eliminates the need for internal printer calibration devices or procedures.
Automatic Black Ink Mode Switching
Both Photo and Matte Black ink cartridges are installed and depending upon your media type or driver setting, the printer will automatically switch from one to the other. Switching can occur automatically or provide a warning before proceeding. The highly-efficient print head design ensures fast switching with minimal ink usage, yielding optimum black ink density, regardless of media type used.
Professional Media Handling
The Stylus Pro 7890 is compatible with virtually any media type, in roll or cut sheets, up to 24"/607mm and allows accurate loading of cut-sheet media, up to 1.5mm thick poster board. All media is front-loaded via a unique straight-through media path. A supplied media bin safely captures multiple prints up to 24" x 36"/609 x 94mm.
Epson Means Business
With the Stylus Pro 7890, Epson continues to set the standard for professional media use. Whether producing sellable color or black-and-white photography, point-of-sale signage, or even color accurate commercial proofs for client approvals, creative professionals now have a powerful tool allowing them to produce their vision without compromise.
ePlaten Technology
The Epson ePlaten Technology is a roll media loading system that ensures high-accuracy automatic media loading, movement, skew adjustment and tracking. It includes electronically controlled roll media back tension and simplifies the overall roll and cut sheet media loading process.
Spindle-Free Roll Media Loading
The Stylus Pro 7890 incorporates a high-accuracy roll media loading system designed with Epson ePlaten Technology. This allows for extremely fast roll media loading with less chance of media damage. Roll media adapters are included to adjust for both 2.0"/51mm- and 3.0"/76mm media cores. A simple tension lever allows for quick and secure media core loading. Additional media adapter pairs are available as an accessory for efficient roll media switching.
Roll Media Length Tracking and Identification System
The Stylus Pro 7890 has an automatic bar code tracking system which includes a real-time automatic remaining roll media length counter and auto bar code printing of remaining roll media information for faster reloading. It enables adjustable roll media length settings to compensate for various roll lengths and is very useful for tracking partially used media rolls. Auto Roll Media Identification works with both genuine Epson and custom media settings, and can be disabled if it is not required by your workflow.
High Performance Rotary Cutting System
The high performance cutting system includes a newly designed rotary type cutter that has an extremely durable design and is virtually maintenance free. It will cut a 24-inch wide sheet in less than two seconds and cuts virtually any media type.
High Performance Print Engine Speeds
Utilizing the latest print head technology, the Epson Stylus Pro 7890 printers are among the fastest wide-format printers in the industry, for example in the SuperPhoto print mode - 2880 dpi together with the HS/High Speed print mode, the printer can deliver a 16" x 20"/406 x 508mm print in 7-minutes, 14-seconds.
Intelligent High-Capacity Ink System
Epson's pressurized ink cartridge technology ensures reliable ink delivery at all print speeds, while dramatically reducing the physical size of the ink cartridges. Nine individual ink cartridges are available in 150ml, 350ml, and 700ml fill volumes. The Stylus Pro 7890 allows you to mix and match across all three ink cartridge sizes.
Easy-to-Use Front Control Panel
A high-resolution 2.5"/64mm color LCD on the control panel provides improved viewing of printer status. It features a simple button layout for all navigation and basic printer functions.
Superior Connectivity
Standard connectivity includes one USB 2.0 and one 10/100 BaseT Ethernet port. Professional Epson Photographic Drivers for Macintosh and Windows are available and the printer is fully supported by most leading third party RIPs and workflows.
Optional Epson SpectroProofer 24
The Epson SpectroProofer 24 is an optional in-line spectrophotometer developed jointly with X-Rite. It is simply installed into the front of the Stylus Pro 7890. It includes both black and white interchangeable backing plates, a built-in print dryer to accelerate the dry-down and reading process, and built-in temperature sensors for internal mechanism and surrounding environment. Additionally, it incorporates an X-Rite ILS20 device which uses a high-accuracy spectrum filter tungsten lamp for extreme measurement accuracy and is capable of reading 15 color patches per second per scan line.
World Class Service and Support
The Stylus Pro 7890 is backed by one-year of limited coverage under the Epson Preferred Protection Plan with toll-free telephone support available Monday through Friday and usually next-business-day on-site service. Optional one- or two-year Epson Preferred Plus service plans available.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 7890 Wide Format Inkjet Printer:

This printer is one that produces spectacular-quality prints on both matte paper and semigloss premium luster paper. It is fast, durable, and rugged. Although it is heavy (you'll need 3-4 people to move it and also to lift it onto your stand during assembly) and large, it is one that can be trusted to give you high-quality photographic prints, as well as artistic ones, in an excellent fashion. I use it to print people photos at various sizes 36x24" (using roll paper) and 16x20" (cut sheets).

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 7890 Wide Format Inkjet Printer:

Although in my opinion the print quality is very similar to the Epson Stylus Pro 7880, the new set of features including better paper handling, more robust cutter, cost reduced photo and matte black ink changeover, faster print speeds to name a few make this printer an outstanding production printer. The overall print quality is outstanding, but as noted not unlike the 7880. it is the new features to increase productivity that makes this printer a worthwhile upgrade.

Comments about Epson Stylus Pro 7890 Wide Format Inkjet Printer:

I purchased this printer as an upgrade to my Epson 7600. The color gamut has improved noticeably and the print speed (faster) is stunning in comparison. The printer operation is very quiet and the printer stand is much more robust than my previous printer's. This represents a major improvement in all aspects of the printing process including loading roll media. The print quality and printer operation are five stars but I give it a four star rating because of its physical size. This printer is enormous in comparison to the 7600. Fortunately it just fit through my office door, without the box (and pallet), which was 30" wide, its smallest dimension.
