I was going to buy a Nikon because of the name brand, but after consulting with a B&H customer service rep went with this flash instead! I love it and especially love the price! However this is only my second speed light, so I don't have a ton of experience yet!

Comments about Nissin Di622 Mark II Digital TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon:
I choose this flash because I really didn't feel like spending almost $400 on the Nikon brand. For my purposes this product covers everything I could want. Its super bright and very easy to use. The iTTL works pretty well from what I can tell and the sync function works pretty good with my pop up flash. If you are just starting to explore the ways of the flash this is a great start up unit.

Comments about Nissin Di622 Mark II Digital TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon:
When I received the flash the diffuser was jammed into the flash and I had to return for replacement. BH was fast on the replacement. If Nissin had not cut 2 cents worth of plastic out of the design used on DI866 this would not have happened, as the 866 body comes out to match the diffuser and the 622 is just flat. Otherwise I love the 622 but will always be wary of the diffuser getting pushed in.

Comments about Nissin Di622 Mark II Digital TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon:
I bought this flash because the comparable Nikons were too expensive. I use it with a Nikon D60 and any concerns I had about the TTL function working with the Nikon are gone. I did some test exposures first to get a feel for its functionality and then used it for a birthday party assignment. Strictly bounce flash and all the shots were good. The setting buttons on the back of the unit are clear, concise, very easy to use and work well when needed. Recycling time is more than adequate. All in all this flash has exceeded my expecations.

Comments about Nissin Di622 Mark II Digital TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Nikon:
I've tried several hot shoe flashes with my Nikon D5000, which I use for unique professional purposes and recreational purposes. To date, I've tried 3 hot shoe flashes with this camera, and only one of them gives me correct exposure. It is a 25 year old SunPak with a built in meter that I purchased for my Canon AE-1 back in 1986. It is, by far, the best hot shoe flash I've ever used.
The second flash I tried was a Bower, but it gave inconsistent results utilizing TTL. This Nissin does the same exact thing - inconsistent results. Sometimes the photo is underexposed. Other times it is properly exposed. However, using the flash in manual mode produces far superior and consistent results. Such was the case with the Bower flash.
I have decided the issue may be related more-so to the TTL metering of the camera. I've experimented with various metering modes with the same results.
As for the flash itself, it seems well-built. I particularly like the auto-zoom, although noisy, seems to be superior to other zoom flashes. This one seems to have more refined steps between the shortest and longest zoom factors, which makes this flash more versatile.
Switching to manual mode is a breeze, and I highly recommend using this flash in manual mode. Even in manual mode, this flash retains some basic TTL functionality, such as limiting your shutter speed to a maximum of 1/200. This prevents the camera from producing a photo with one half exposed properly, and the other half dark. Whether this is done by the camera or the flash is unknown to me, but with non-TTL flashes, I'm able to push the shutter speed faster, although I get the half dark/half properly exposed syndrome.
Additionally, in manual mode, you won't have to remember to match the f/stop or ISO of the flash with the f/stop or ISO of the camera. Those two options don't exist on the flash. I'm assuming this flash reads the f/stop and ISO of the camera and adjusts accordingly.
In addition to manual mode, this flash features 3 slave modes: Slave Digital, Slave Film, and Wireless Remote. Slave Digital and Slave Film each fire with another flash when it is detected. Wireless Sync uses Wireless Remote Channel 1, Group A.
An additional feature on this flash you won't find on other hot shoe flashes is a Synchro terminal (X terminal). This makes it great for off-camera flash photography.
This Nissin has a very high guide number and I was skeptical at first. However, in one of my unique professional shoots, the flash delivered as promised. Even from 100 feet away, the flash gave decent fill-in on the subject on a sunny day. This is, in my opinion, the best feature of this flash and it was worth the extra cash I spent to get that kind of range.
And, to top it all off, I was impressed with the recovery time of the flash. In most situations, it's ready to fire again almost immediately. As a test, I switched to manual mode, full power, and full zoom. I fired the flash and recovery time was about 3 seconds. Not bad for a flash in this price range.

I purchased this flash unit to be a backup to my main flash which is a Di866. I decided to test the Di622 at a wedding rehearsal. It worked flawlessly. I was able to shoot flash after flash, without it overheating. My Di866 was constantly overheating and always at the worst possible time. So I've been using the Di622 as my main flash unit ever since. It nails the exposures consistently. I miss the additional fill flash on the Di866, but so far I've been getting by without it. I definitely give it 5 stars!!!
