I've been hunting for the perfect dslr shoulder stabilizer for nearly two years. Most are overpriced, too heavy, and ergonomically incorrect. I discovered this one via another manufacturer's product, which incorporates this stock as an element of a more expensive package. So I bought this on the idea that I could build my own system using this as the foundation.

I haven't been disappointed. I was able to mount indexpensive follow focus components on top of this stock, and the result is that, for the first time, I have the rig I want:

    An affordable shoulder rig that:

    1. Is balanced – I can completely let go with my hands without the rig falling over.
    2. Is light as possible – no shoulder-numbing counter balance weights need to be added.
    3. Includes follow focus for smooth cinematic focusing on the fly.
    4. Is ergonomic – Z-finder is positioned in front of my right eye; I can comfortably use rig for longer than a few minutes.
    5. Can be quickly reconfigured – camera can quick-release for use on tripod.

You might think that it would be hard to breathe while holding still a rig that rests partially on your lower chest, but it's not that bad. The camera will move slightly every time you take a breath, but it's easy to adjust your breathing pattern slightly for maximum stability (it simply involves being mindful not to push out your chest when inhaling – it's easy to expand lungs down and sideways instead).

I just go this and started playing around with it. I guess I'll keep it, since it was pretty cheap. The build quality is decent. There's a small arm that swivels that connects to your camera. Seems like there's a lot of stress/pressure on the point where that swivel connects with the main body of this stabilizer. But I can live with it. The more problematic issue is the lack of a counterbalance on the backside. I.e., the arm that goes down your back. Unless you're shooting with a light GoPro or a point-and-shoot, there simply isn't enough weight on the other end. Let's say you've got a Canon 60D or a Rebel on this gadget with a microphone on your hotshoe. After 15 minutes, your back is gonna feel stressed. Plus the pad on your ribs and the bar that rests on your shoulder near your neck also will get uncomfortable and will need extra padding. i placed a seat cushion between my ribs and the part of this gadget that rests on your ribs, and it immediately became more comfortable. I also wrapped padding around the shoulder bar and that too helped. But the main thing that helped was adding more weight to the back bar. I actually took a 2 1/2 lb barbell weight and hooked it on with a bungee cord, just to see what it would do. Guess what? It helped a lot! It seemed like my back wasn't being pulled forward anymore. Good luck, if you buy this. It's not that bad. :)

Recently used this mount to video my local fire department during a live-training session. Wow! The stability compared to handheld is amazing! This mount is comfortable and lightweight. Granted, you lose some flexibility with camera angles, but dismounting the camera is quick and easy, so I got the shots I needed.
Surprisingly sturdy for a plastic item, but all parts are very thick and strong. I never worried about anything breaking.

whole thing is made of plastic. Which makes it light also. But it feels sturdy, not cheap. i did notie that the exact same product is being sold under several different brand names though. Go for the cheapest one. they are all identical!

I use this Hand free Video Stabilizer with my D600 Nikon and a 80-400 f2.8 zoom lenses.Solid and steady with more than 11 Lb. of equipment. The ideal of three points support is a lot stronger than I thought. Adjust platforms are ease and strong. If Dot Line can add a quick release for access faster and protect camera from crash, I will give it a fifth stat.Less than [$], You will enjoy it! Even for once or twice per year.

This DSLR stabilizer is really useful when I go shoot. Obviously, there are other stabilizers out there that can do an incredible job, but thats also probably around hundreds of dollars. If you're just starting in making videos, I'd totally recommend this. The most important thing is that it gets the job done !! The only thing that I don't find too great about it is how most camera's will be heavier than the rig itself but thats okay, it's still pretty safe as long as you wear it properly and also the belt that comes with it to secure its stability on you.

This rig was great for shooting a mockumentary style webseries. It did get very uncomfortable with a 5D Mark III and a 70-200 lens on it for a 10 hour shoot, and I am pretty sore the day later.

But taking into account the price, I had a feeling it wasn't going to be the most comfortable piece ever.

Overall, it's worth purchasing and using while you save up for that dreamy stedi-cam you've got your eye on.

Love this stabilizer, hands down the best, and I've tried many!
I'm using it with my Canon EOS Rebel T3I and my very heavy macro lens, the Canon EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens, both of which I also purchased at B&H earlier this year.
Very happy with all 3 products and highly recommended!

Comments about Dot Line DL-0370 Hands-free Video Stabilizer for DSLR and Camcorders:

Comments about Dot Line DL-0370 Hands-free Video Stabilizer for DSLR and Camcorders:

This is my first ever review on B&H because this product is so great for the price. If you look at other DSLR rigs, they are bulky, expensive, and not at all discrete. This item is perfect for DSLR video, works as advertised, and is priced unbelievably low. It doesn't stand out like the huge shoulder rigs I've seen, and really is hands free. I use this with my D800 and several prime lenses, plus a video head which I'll link to below. I have a Rode microphone on top - this is my rig for run and gun DSLR video. I need to be hands free to switch lenses and make camera adjustments.
PROS – 1) Price. I am filming some documentary footage and this project is all on my own dime, so I can't shell out hundreds for a rig. 2) Effectiveness. This thing works just like it says. Once you start shooting DSLR video, you immediately realize that you need a stabilizer or tripod. The DSLR is awkward to hold, it is not ergonomically designed for video. This thing really does what it says.
Things to know: In the box you get the one-piece rig itself, a strap that wraps around your chest to make the rig hands-free, two extenders, and a thin bag to carry it all. The strap can easily be taken off, and once you adjust it it holds the rig close to you so your equipment won't fall. I don't use the two extenders, I keep the camera close to my face.
The rig itself hooks over your shoulder and is supported by a chest pad. It is surprisingly comfortable. I can see how if you had a wider chest this rig might not fit. I'm 5'10" and 185 lbs, and it fits fine. The chest pad can be adjusted and tightened, I have it out to about %80 of what it can do, so if you are a big person this probably won't fit. You can fold up the rig for travel.
This rig does not have a handle or a quick release plate. I'm fine with both of these things and I'll explain why. There is a Dot Line version of this rig with a handle, but it is just for support and doesn't let you pivot the camera. That one costs twice as much and there seems to be on benefit since this rig is hand's free, you don't need a handle. I ordered a Manfrotto fluid head which I needed anyway and mounted it on top of this rig (with an adapter), the fluid head can pivot the camera. I put the handle in backwards. I also had a quick release plate in my camera bag, so I added that on top, it helps a lot and I would highly recommend getting it, the link is below. You'll need a few ¼ 20 to 3/8 screw adapters to make this work.

It sits well on the shoulder having a natural curve and the strap helps with stability. The chest pod did trouble me at first as I could see the camera rising and falling as I breathed, but this was only a problem on longer tele settings.
It's well constructed and thought out and for the price it really deserves a strong recommendation.
I later tried an Opteka CXSB-1 but as it always slipped forward off my should due to the shoulder support having such as shollow curve, I'm sticking with the Dot-Line

Comments about Dot Line DL-0370 Hands-free Video Stabilizer for DSLR and Camcorders:

I purchased this product because I knew at some point I will have to film some events that are lengthy in time and I would much rather prefer to use something that has more mobility and freedom than a tripod. This shoulder rig is just right.

The rig is pretty firm, has pads for the shoulder and for the chest, it has a locking chest arm so it doesn't move, there are two base plates for using on DSLR or digital cameras and for larger camcorders. This rig also has a strap that goes around your back to prevent the rig from falling to the side.

For the price it was a very good purchase and I am very happy with it. There is a much less stress on my body using this rig for long videos than holding it by hand. It also provides great stability, which is probably what it was intended for.

The only drawback that this rig has, and I wish DLC would fix it (unless the did in a more advanced model) is that there is no level adjustment for the rig. Anytime you have the camera on you have to level it by shifting your body since the rig follows the slant of the shoulder. This is only a minor drawback and doesn't hamper the product or the video quaility. It would be great though if they could make the piece where the base plates rest on adjustable so the user can make it level.

Overall this product is very good for anyone who wants a cheap but great solution to stabiizing their videos when they use handheld and for anyone who wants to reduce the strain on their shoulders and arms.
