I bought the vivicam 38 because of its low price and the fact it was a digital camera. It did not work out. Trying to figure out how to install the batteries was difficult, very hard to see inside the compartment. The LCD monitor was grainy, the pics were lousy. It drains batteries very quickly; I went through 9 batteries in less than 3 days, even thought the cam was shut off most of the time. I had wanted to snap occasional photos, without much ado. It didn't happen.

This product was purchased for use in my classroom. Within days the cameras stopped working. New batteries did not make a difference. It is very difficult to have students do the science projects requested when the materials given to them fail.

I purchased two of these cameras in strawberry and two in black to use in my school classroom. Within two days of use the cameras were not working. I replaced batteries, thinking that might solve the problem. It did not. They simply will not turn on and take pictures.
I always thought Vivitar had quality products. I will not purchase another Vivitar product.

this is a great, inexpensive first camera for an 8-10 year old. The instructions are not very clear, but if you play around with the camera a bit, you can figure it out. The pictures come out best when taken outdoors. If you are looking for a good quality camera, this is not it.

This is really a horrible camera for so many reasons. The image quality is terrible, at it's best setting it only holds 15 pictures. The battery door is very easily knocked open and when that happens the memory gets wiped and all the pictures are gone. Bought it for my 3 year old who loves to take pictures...she was visibly disappointed and acutely aware of it's design flaws. Spend a few more dollars and get something better. Oh yeah, ours also came packaged in that awful thick plastic casing that is impossible to open without extreme risk of bodily injury. Gave it one star because I had to - no stars for you Vivicam!

only thing good about this product is the price. so light it feels like a cheap toy, even with the batteries in it. its supposed to be 3mp but the quality is worse than 1mp cell phone camera. you can only get 120 pictures if you have it on the 1mp setting and only 15 if you have it at 3mp. and there is little difference in the quality between the two settings.

I wanted cameras for my 7-year-old twin grandchildren that were real cameras to introduce them to photography that were inexpensive since young kids can be fatal to real cameras, and you never know if they will be interested until you try. So I got this red one for the girl and a black one for the boy. These Vivitars are basic digital cameras. They have small LCD screens on the back, as well as crude optical viewfinders. The image quality is not great, but compares quite well to what people get from their cellphones. I'm also not too sure about battery life. That said, this cameras fill the bill.
