Melodyne essential from Celemony is pitch/time shifting software for use with monophonic material, and is the most affordable way to access the features of Melodyne. The software is perfect for correcting intonation and timing via a macro or by hand. Transpose, move or erase notes and copy individual notes or entire passages to different locations.
The software operates directly within your audio workstation. You hear all edits in the context of the other tracks in your project and you can use as many instances as you wish, limited only by your computer's CPU. The software functions cross platform under Mac OS X or Windows, and as a plug-in utilizing Audio Units, RTAS or VST formats. It can also function standalone for those occasions where booting a DAW is not required.

Comments about Celemony Melodyne essential - Monophonic Pitch Shifting/Time Stretching Software:
I paid for studio time which had the full version of this software so I knew what it could do and how to use it. I understood that the "essentials" version had a reduced feature set but I had a difficult time finding the list of features stacked side-by-side with the full version, nor could I find any walk-through videos of this version on youtube or community sites.
Sadly, this version only does pitch correction, not modulation correction. When it automatically corrects voice, sometimes it puts a strange digital artifact on the signal, which can normally be corrected by adjusting the modulation - but that's not available in this version. Also, it only does one track at a time in a project, forcing me to render to a stub or "bounce" every time I want to iterate, which is a pretty big pain.
Ultimately I rate this with 2 stars because in spite of the power of this software, the description of features in this version isn't very clear and the package is only marginally useful.
If you only want to do pitch correction and you don't mind sounding like a robot, this software is for you.
The full version is awesome and worth buying. I suggest that any serious producer should avoid this expensive demo and save up for the full version.

Comments about Celemony Melodyne essential - Monophonic Pitch Shifting/Time Stretching Software:
For basic pitch & time editing Essential works great!! I upgraded to the Melodyne Assistant for even more tools. Tried the others, Melodyne is top of the line regardless of the hype from the other brands. The realistic audio quality is what makes it better everything else.
