The Olympus LH-55B Lens Hood for Select Olympus Lenses helps reduce lens flare caused by stray light from the sun or other light sources. Lens hoods also provide a degree of protection for the lens against accidental impact. The LH-55B lens hood is compatible with the 9-18mm f/4.0-5.6 Zuiko ED Lens and 12-50mm f/3.5-6.3 M.Zuiko ED Lens from Olympus. It is a black, rectangular type lens hood.

Look - there's not much than you can say, other than the fact that this hood works. But I've got to be honest here and admit that although this is the hood required for the Olympus 12-50 zoom lens, they are of very lightweight plastic construction - so don't expect a masterpiece. It does what it's supposed to do and clicks on quite simply.
Nooooo, it's definitely not a metal masterpiece. Quite frankly, I would think this hood would cost more like $10 - $15 - but hey, I don't make the pricing decisions at the corporate level.

This lens hood is what Olympus recoomends for the 12-50 lens. It works ok. It seems like it is a little thin for such a lens. Still it does shade the lens ok and protect the lens ok. I will give the lens a 4 star for these things. The only real problem is that the hood doesn't lock on the 12-50 when reversed for storage. This made me drop the star rating down one to a 3-star. Still Olympus should have included the lens hood with the lens at the time of purchase.

I'd have to say I've never before experienced the sensations I "feel" when I gaze upon this lenshood. Suffice to say, I haven't been able to sleep since the purchase. Words excape me.

Comments about LH-55B Lens Hood for Select Olympus Lenses:
I was hesitant in buying this for my 12-50mm lens for my OM-D EM-5, but it works quite well. I can;t say that it has helped with flare much (since it is so small), but it has saved me from banging my lens into some things a couple of times.

I wish that Olympus included lens hoods with their lenses.
I wanted a lens hood to keep the dry bag from smearing the lens of my 12-50mm lens on my Olympus OM-D E-M5 while I'm kayaking. The lens hood is large enough to protect the lens, yet small enough to fit neatly in my dry bag while kayaking.

Comments about LH-55B Lens Hood for Select Olympus Lenses:
Great way to protect the lens and filter. With this lens hood in place I can stop worrying about banging the end of my lens on a wall, table, etc. Instead of leaving the camera in the bag, take it out and use the camera. Rugged form factor offers strength and helps to eliminate some of those pesky rays of light that often spoil a shot.

I bought this lens hood for the M.Zuiko Digital ED 12-50mm F3.5-6.3 lens that comes with the Olympus OM-D E-M5 camera.
I believe Olympus should provide these with their lens but they decided not to, so I ordered this one that fits perfectly.
It's a good quality hood and it does its job accordingly. The inside of the hood is covered with a matte non-reflective felt of some kind, which is a good idea to prevent any light reflection on the lens front element.

Comments about LH-55B Lens Hood for Select Olympus Lenses:
This lens hood should have been included with the lens, especially the wide angle lens. It is also non standard and there are no after market. But works well as it should.
