Comments about Porta Brace PB-3500DSLR Hard Case Backpack with DSLR Divider Kit (Black):

I bought this to have an easily portable waterproof/protective case for my Nikon D700 and accessories for an upcoming trip to the Galapagos Islands where it'll be at risk of getting splashed and dinged around during boat transportation to/from various islands but where I'll then be able to shoot on dry land for most of the day. Also needed something that could be left on a beach while I go off snorkeling or something, without fear of sand/etc getting all over my stuff.

So far this seems to fill the bill: it seems quite well-constructed, very protective etc. I have not yet tested the waterproofness (see below; I am waiting on one thing to finally decide that I am definitely keeping this; I don't want to get it all wet 'til I decide that!) but it has a nice rubber seal around the opening and I bet it will hold up to serious splashing at least, and probably submersion. The latches seem strong and secure. I may stick some things in a dry bag inside just to be sure, but that seems like it would be overkill at this point!

The padding kit inside is easily adjustable and I have it configured to be able to fit my D700 with the Nikon 24-70 f/2.8 attached, battery grip (not attached), SB910 flash, and with room for a couple other small lenses, filters, extra battery, etc. If I take the flash out, it can also accommodate my 80-200 lens (and still all the other stuff above). I don't cram things together either; this all fits with easy access to everything. Should be perfect for a day of shooting.

The backpack harness is surprisingly comfortable and supports the weight well (this is coming from someone who does a lot of backpacking and knows the importance of a well-fitting backpack). It is not as adjustable as a multi-day pack that you'd carry 50 lbs in, but it makes a great day pack, and is reasonably easy to carry even with all the camera gear in it (the pack itself weighs close to 10 lbs I estimate, so how it handles the load was really important to me). I chose this one over the similar HPRC backpack because the online photos of the harness made it look so much more ergonomic; have never actually seen that one in person though. I was told before purchasing this that it would come with a waist strap to unload some weight from the shoulders, and it didn't -- B&H promptly told me they'd ask the manufacturer to send me one though -- I'm waiting for that to arrive, but assuming it is as well-made as the rest of this item, and makes it that much easier to carry, that will seal the deal and this will be what I take to the Galapagos. (i'm not sure if I'll be able to update this review once it does -- if so, i will try to include more info. I think I am the first person on here reviewing this item)
