International Orders*SoftStep from Keith McMillen Instruments is multi-touch controller featuring 10 key pads, each with Sensor Key Technology enabling 5 degrees of control that are unique to each key. These parameters include X, Y, Clockwise Rotation, Counter Clockwise Rotation and Pressure. Additionally, these sources can be mapped to destinations up to 6 times for each key, providing the possibility of a dense data source from a single motion of the foot.
The included software application for both Mac and Windows works with the hardware controller to manipulate sensor data for finely tailored control. These modified control sources can be mapped to any MIDI or OSC (Open Sound Control) destination, giving the player unlimited potential for creative expression. The board is USB bus powered and has an expression port to plug in an expression pedal.
The foot controller has blue backlighting for easy viewing on stage. A four-character alpha numeric display is user programmable and LEDs for each key can be programmed to display a choice of data. There is also an expansion port for the SoftStep MIDI Expander (sold separately) to enable use without a computer to control a MIDI synthesizer and/or rack. Power can also be supplied through the expansion port.
SoftStep is a leap forward in foot controller portability and functionality. It weighs in at just over a pound and fits into many laptop and guitar cases for unparalleled flexibility. The board is rubberized and has a carbon fiber back to give it maximum strength and stability. The controller is versatile and expressive, whether used with an effects rack or with popular software programs.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments SoftStep - Multi-Touch USB Foot Controller:
Softstep is very versatile. You will need to educate yourself on midi programming if you do not have prior experience with midi, but it's worth it once you know what your doing. I am currently using Softstep to control Peavey Revalver MKIII.V and I am very happy with Softstep. The only minor issue that I had was that the 1/4" to 1/8" expression pedal wire adapter that came with my softstep was defective. Rather than contact KMI for such a trivial issue, I opted to cut the 15 foot wire off my expression pedal & fitted the expression pedal with a 1/8" jack. Now I don't need the adapter and I can use any stereo 1/8" cable (I use a Monster) to connect to the Softstep expression pedal input. Also, some people have said that the Softstep backlighting caused noise in the guitar signal, but I have not had any issues at all with that. Great product.

Comments about Keith McMillen Instruments SoftStep - Multi-Touch USB Foot Controller:
I use the soft step to trigger samples and effects in Ableton Live. What I love about this controller is the size and durability. Its made of carbon fibre and is extremely lightweight. The pads feel great and are very responsive. To be honest, I never thought my feet could be so dynamic. The only thing that I could see people disliking is the complicated editor. It is only complicated because it does so much. So really its a compromise, I didn't even know the controller could do so much, so I wasn't expecting it. However now that I'm aware of all the functionality, I appreciate the editor being so in depth because now I can use it in a bunch of new ways!
