The GB-10 from Tascam is a trainer/recorder that allows guitar and bass players to learn and record new music. It is the ideal practice tool for musicians of any skill level to build their technique. A tuner and metronome are also built-in for precision playback.
The unit can be used in many ways. One way is to simply plug an instrument into 1/4" input and play through the included amplifier modeling, reverb and other effects. The music can be recorded to the included 2GB SD card with an overdub mode to build up arrangements.
The 2GB SD card can also be used for loading in a custom music collection. Variable Speed Audition allows musicians to independently change the speed and pitch of MP3 or WAV playback. The tabletop design is perfect for practicing almost anywhere, and a footswitch input allows hands-free control.

This thing is amazing. Right out of the box I had everything figured out and up and working. I'm a bassist and I get calls to play gigs with cover bands that give me 30+ songs on a list to learn in a couple days. I recently got a call for a gig that had some very Bass intense songs that I did not know. I bought the GB-10, quickly loaded it with about 30 songs and was able to work in any room of my house with headphones and a guitar cable. The Key change feature was crucial in learning solos that have been transposed to different keys. I showed up at rehearsal and the band thought I was a genius for learning all the songs so fast. I was able to take the GB-10 to the gigs and review the next set while on break. It is the best resource I've seen for training and learning songs fast. Better than the CD versions because I can load the SD card with a ton of songs. It does need a backlit screen though. You will need a mini flash light if your going to use it in the dark.If it was backlit I would give it 5 stars.

I have the old cd bass trainer and have used the mp-BT1. While the GB-10 has some great features, it does not have the bass cancelling and bass enhancing features that made it easy to hear and learn the bass parts. This is a great guitar trainer that overlooks bassists. I am returning the one I got for my birthday and scouring the internet for a MP-BT1.

I am a pedal steel guitar player and I use the GB-10 to record guitar licks and learn them by slowing them down if need be to get the string combinations I need. The loop function is great. You can play and repeat only the part you want to learn. I would reccomend the GB-10 to any level of player wanting to learn more.

This unit is perfect if you need something to plug into and hear your guitar without everyone else in the house or the neighborhood having to endure the same. Not only does it help for practicing quietly but you can slow down, change the key and even loop certain sections of songs when you are learning them which will give you an edge over the competition.

Easily transfers music files from iTunes to internal memory, then allows playback at lower speed with no pitch change for analysis. Works perfectly. Best used with foot pedal accessory.

Best tool for pulling songs apart. Smaller footprint than previous model. Still cumbersome for some commonly used features. Biggest headache it inability to quickly restart a track (you have to hit the back key multiple times to return to begining. Good luck sorting out file system between folders and playlist. Should have a simple app to manage from a PC or phone. Looper is annoying, hold the button too long and a second looper app appears. Still better than using a PC.

I am trying to teach myself the bass guitar. This produce allows me to slow the tempo of a song enough so that even I can play along with it. When I start to get it, I can increase the tempo. And the tune doesn't change. I have never seen anything like it. And the price was affordable

I was told by a friend about a bass trainer that he used to improve his skill level. Thanks to B & H, it was easy to go to their site and to review their products and then decide on the best trainer for my skill level and goals.
I am now able to practice the upcoming weeks church hymns and to participate in worship services.

I finally decided to dust off my old 1980 Fender P bass and try to regain my chops. This is the perfect tool for that purpose.
Pros:
Ease of set up
Effects options
Ability to slow tempo of song to practice licks
Cons:
Only con I can think of so far is the inability to use USB for simultaneous charging and downloading.

Comments about Tascam GB-10 - USB Guitar/Bass Trainer/Recorder:
This device is a big improvement over the old TEAC MP-GT1. The controls make more sense and are much easier to use. I like the speed reduction feature and not only use the device for learning guitar parts, but for dance music playback at reduced speed. The fidelity of the sound is improved on this version, as are the features. I am blown away by the built-in recording capability and now also use it to record my practice sessions. Having replaceable batteries and memory chip are another major upgrade: the battery on my old MP-GT1 gave up the ghost after a couple of years.
PROBLEM: I am having problems with some of the audio files I had encoded myself or that friends had encoded from vinyl. It seems like they don't sync. I did not have this problem with the old MP-GT1, so I am trying to figure out what gives. Commercially produced recordings that have been ripped from CD's work fine. If it weren't for this, I would rate it 5 stars.
