The Ikegami HDS-V10P/E tapeless camcorder utilizes 2/3" CCDs and MPEG-2 compression to deliver full resolution 1280 x 720 HD video onto GFPAK flash memory. With its solid, well-balanced design and advanced features, the HDS-V10P/E can hang tough with the most demanding broadcast news and digital media professionals.
Using Ikegami's highly efficient and affordable GFCAM tapeless system, you can shoot full resolution 4:2:2 HD images in multiple recording modes. The rugged reliability of the GFPAK's solid-state memory is matched only by the camera's shock- and dust-resistant build, making it perfect for shooting under harsh (and even rainy) conditions.
The advantages of shooting solid-state become clear the more you use the HDS-V10P/E. Its internal buffer memory lets you continue recording even while changing GFPAKs, at the same time letting you start shooting a scene 25 seconds before you hit REC--averting that crucial missed shot. Exportable thumbnail images and metadata (via USB) make workflow even more efficient.
- Stunning Picture Quality
- The HDS-V10P/E employs 2/3" image sensors with high sensitivity for ENG applications. In addition, it incorporates the same sophisticated digital process as Ikegami's top-end HDK-79 series HDTV cameras, providing superior color reproduction. The 4:2:2 color sampling reproduces superb HDTV video that not only ensures high quality video, but also records uncompressed audio, time code and metadata. At the same time, the latest programmable DSP technology allows future upgrade of the codec to adopt to new compression systems--to insure future proofing of the HDS-V10P/E.
- 2/3" Optics
- The 2/3-inch optical format gives users a wide selection of lens choices. On the camera side this format gives the best overall combination of high sensitivity and low noise, especially important for news applications working under all lighting conditions, including at night in very low light.
- GFPAK Flash Memory
- The HDS-V10P/E's main removable storage medium, GFPAK, used with the GFCAM, GFSTATION, and GFSTATION PORTABLE, is based on semiconductor flash memory. With no moving parts, flash memory offers distinct advantages over optical disc-based and other solutions: it is rugged, highly impact- and vibration-resistant, and maintenance is easier and much cheaper; it is also a long-life, semi-permanent medium, supporting rewrite cycles on the order of tens of thousands.
- Long Recording Time
- A single 64Gb GFPAK can store up to 128 minutes of HD images, affording ample recording time when used in the field. Depending on the application, an alternative hard disk-drive based memory pack is also available. Both the flash-based and HDD packs have the same profile and interface and are completely interchangeable in system components. The GFPAK also includes an LCD panel with bar indicator to display remaining capacity, and does not require power to be visible.
- Meta and Proxy Data
- As the GFCAM records high-resolution image data, it also simultaneously records proxy video and other meta data. Proxy video, a low-resolution MPEG 4 mirror of the high-resolution image and sound, has the same time code as the original, and can be quickly delivered over a network, or accessed on location, for initial viewing and to support scripting and editing. By recording INPUT/OUTPUT points set by a PC, replay of materials according to these points is easily done either on GFSTATION or GF STATION PORTABLE. Other meta data recorded during acquisition supports workflow efficiency by logging all key facts on the shoot-date, location, program name, and equipment used.
- 14-bit Conversion
- The HDS-V10P/E uses 14-bit analog-to-digital conversion to optimize gradation, important for the dark areas of the picture. After video processing there is frame memory for the Freeze Mix function allowing live video to be matched to a previously recorded frame of video. There is also down conversion to 480i or 576i for SDTV applications.
- Open Solutions
- Every component of the system is built around open standards, including such codecs and formats as MPEG2 Long GOP/I-Frame and MXF. This approach supports broadcasters and production companies in making a gradual transition from existing systems to a new tapeless environment, and also facilitates interoperability with diverse third-party equipment and systems.
- RetroLoop Recording & Time Lapse
- Buffer memory built into the camera can record video and audio signals for 25 seconds without a GFPAK, allowing you to replace the GFPAK within 25 seconds and still maintain continuous recording. The internal cache memory can also be used to record up to 25 seconds of video before pressing the REC button--so you'll never miss a shot. A time-lapse feature includes variable recording intervals and frequency, while loop recording lets you shoot continuously with a single GFPAK.
- Playback & Editing Functions
- Status indications and Thumbnail images can be instantly viewed on the 3.5-inch LCD color monitor. You can simply select clips using thumbnail images and continuously playback according to a set PLAY LIST. The camera includes simple editing of recorded clips, so you can immediately transfer the edited video.
- USB 2.0 Interface
- The camera's USB 2.0 interface has many functions. Metadata such as record date, location, photographer name, program name and/or camera number can be input, and Proxy Video (Option) can be exported to an external memory device. Moreover, all of camera firmware can be updated from USB Memory.

I use this camera for my production team when I am needed for shooting 720, this camera does not go up to 1080. Which is a bummer. Like I said, I do not use it all the time. I use it for my filming for studios.
