The Vivitek D950HD 1080p Multimedia DLP Projector is ideal for office, educational or home theater use. The HD in the name stands for Full HD resolution. The 1080p (1,920 x 1,080) resolution not only supports 1080p content but is a perfect match for today's widescreen laptops, whether they're Mac or PC. On the home theater front, the D950HD is a great fit for 16:9 Blue-ray feature films.
No matter how you use it the D950HD packs a powerful 3,000 lumens of brightness backed with a 3,000:1 contrast ratio that displays extraordinarily crisp details even in rooms or installations with high ambient light levels.
The D950HD uses the latest in DLP technology from Texas Instruments called BrilliantColor. Unlike other technologies such as LCD that use just three primary colors to produce the image, DLP technology with Brilliant Color uses up to six separate colors. BrilliantColor not only improves color accuracy, it brightens secondary colors as well. This combination increases the brightness of colors by up to 50 percent over DLP projectors without BrilliantColor for accurate, true-to-life images.
But the D950HD can do lot more than make beautiful pictures. Weighing in at 7.5 lb, there's a chance it may do some traveling and it won't have to be limited to domestic flights. It's got an international auto switching 100 - 240 volt 50 / 60 Hz power supply, can project video in the NTSC, PAL and SECAM international video standards and has a multi-language OSD to facilitate operation.
Vivitek has built extensive connectivity into the D950HD including HDMI (2x), component, composite and S-video. An RJ-45 connector allows control of the projector over a network as well as scheduling maintenance bulletins via email. At only 30dB in Economy mode, the D950HD won't compete with your movie or presentation and offers an additional bonus of a 6,000 hour lamp life. As with all DLPs, you'll never have to change a filter.
Lastly, to make sure that your D950HD doesn't take unauthorized leave of the premises, security is provided by timer and password protection as well as a Kensington Lock slot and security bar.

Comments about Vivitek D950HD 1080p Multimedia DLP Projector:
This is a great projector! I ceiling mounted it and it looks great! Very quiet. A couple of things to be aware of (but not really negatives):
- This is a desktop projector so the image when the projector is level is higher than the projector (or lower is ceiling mounted). This offset is not too bad, I am shooting from 12' away and the image offset is about 12". I was able to correct this in my ceiling mount setup by angling the projector up and using just -2 Keystone Correction. I had to do this as my image had to be all the way to the ceiling.
-The other thing to be aware of when setting up this projector is the Grid that can be turned on in the menu for aligning the projector is not the full image. The grid ends about 10 pixels in from each direction. I only realized this after my project was all aligned and ceiling installed then we connected a PC and realized the image was bigger. This required another trip up the ladder to zoom it in. Again, not a big deal, just good to know before installing.

So far the projector is great. Great picture - brighter than my old optoma that pixalated out after 2 years.

Comments about Vivitek D950HD 1080p Multimedia DLP Projector:
See my review of the Vivitek 1081HD. I expected this projector to be much brighter than the 1081HD, because it is rated at 3000 lumens, and the 1081 only at 2000. But in my hands it isn't. In addition the black levels are not nearly as black as those in the 1081, but this is expected since the 1081 has a 5000:1 contrast ratio, and the 950 only a 3000:1. In a conference environment where the lights are likely to be on, no projector can provide good black levels. Otherwise, the appearance, and weight are identical to the 1081. This projector is targeted at the portable and conference market, and includes a pointer/remote as well as a very nice carry case. If super picture quality is not a prime issue, these accessories, together with the high definition image and adequate brightness make this a good choice.

Comments about Vivitek D950HD 1080p Multimedia DLP Projector:
I have this projector set up in my living room on a ceiling mount, connected to my desktop computer via an HDMI cable. I mostly use it to watch movies, as well as a very nice second screen while listening to music or on the internet (110") :)
Overall, the quality is amazing! Plenty of video inputs, very quiet, long lamp life, crystal clear picture while watching blu-rays.
This thing is bright! With 3000 lumens, I'm able to have lights on and still see what's on the screen perfectly.
For under $1,000 this is a great buy - I highly recommend it!

I bought this project to use for showing my Premiere Pro edited HD movies and photos on my Blu-ray player at events. Great picture! Bright enough to show inside restaurant w/o having to turn off the lights. I connect via the HDMI and use the audio pin out for external speaker connection. Super simple menu and controls. A peaty straight forward unit - no issues at all.
