Sometimes less really is more: the GEO POD E54 4-Section Carbon Fiber/Basalt Monopod from Velbon is 2 legs short of a tripod, but you get more speed in setting up shots, more room and space available for lenses, accessories, etc., and more flexibility in where to set up shots. This 4-section support is made of a carbon fiber/basalt composite for added strength and rigidity, and extends from 1.67' (51 cm) up to 5.21' (1.59 m). The positive lever locks lock and unlock the sections very quickly, and the whole monopod weighs just 13.08 oz (371 g). The attached strap and the rubber foot give you a solid support, even on uneven ground.

Comments about Velbon GEO POD E54 4-Section Carbon Fiber/Basalt Monopod:

This is a well constructed carbon fibre monopod, but it is just not study enough. First, each section has a relatively small diameter. The first section is only 1" at most in diameter. Second, the clamps can't take a lot of weight without sliding. I was able to adjust them to be tighter. Third, it only has a 1/4" thread to attach a head. I know you can buy 3/8" adapter screws, but it should have come with one. Once you solve the problem of attaching a head, this should be a good light weight monopod to use with a point and shoot camera or a small SLR with a short lens. Just don't push down too hard.
