Being cost conscious about photography gear, I've been trying out quite a few different Vello products lately. And so far, I have yet to be disappointed.

This bracket is just what I was looking for when running into the issue of having to use on camera flash and no where to bounce. In fact, I even find it useful even when bouncing in the portrait orientation. I'm right handed and like to shoot in the portrait orientation with my trigger finger on the top. Without the bracket, you have no other choice to bounce flash other than the left side. With the bracket, you now have the freedom again to bounce in any direction you need as if you were in the landscape orientation.

I was a bit concerned with the clearance on the right side of the bracket mounted with the lens since the example photos showed a 50 1.4 just barely fitting. Not to worry though. I was able to mount it on a 5DIII and 7D with the battery grip using a 24-70L and 70-200L. It barely cleared it, but cleared it nevertheless.

Great overall build and serves its purposes nicely.

I bought this for a wedding that I have coming up. So far it seems to work good. The bolts needed a little snugging to keep it from rotating on it's own. And it does seem a little more flexible than I had imagined, but not worrisome. The rotating arm is reasonably height adjustable. Enough so that it works on my D7000 with grip and all my lenses. The bracket is easy to install, adjust and operate. The cold shoe raises the flash just a little more than it would be on the hot shoe helping to reduce red eye marginally. So far it seems promising for the upcoming wedding and I imagine that it will operate flawlessly in which case it will earn another star.

Comments about Vello Quickshot Rotating Flash Bracket:

This bracket to me is the best design (for there are many different designs).
However the shoe on top is dangerous or your flash cable that runs from your flash to your camera. The cable shoe needs to be mounted on the bracket shoe and there is your weakest link. The flash is now mounted on two shoes!
When turning your camera the flash might suddenly drop in position. It takes only three sudden drops for the cable-shoe to break. Safest is to screw the cable-shoe directly on this bracket and fix it there. Now it is secure for usage.

I have four Canon digital SLR's and this bracket functions extremely well with each unit . Whether my 5d, 30d , or rebel xti . Make sure to follow the instructions for proper alignment and this bracket should serve you well . I've fine tuned mine and it's a snap to change orientation of the flash . This bracket supports my Canon 580EX II or 420EX safe and securely .

Comments about Vello Quickshot Rotating Flash Bracket:

I'm having a goodtime with this bracket. I gave it 4 stars because of a few small incidentals. I have a "Custom Bracket Digital Pro-M", that I use with my Sony a700 & F58AM Flash. (Top drawer bracket, flash & camera. Just a....... BEAUTIFUL COMBINATION! I did numerous affairs with that combo including....Weddings, Retirement & BirthdayParties, Graduations & Family Reunions with a lot of vertical & horizontal shots. I NEVER noticed any hassels or problems at all, with or without a tri-pod).When the Sony a77 came out, I didn't have another$400 ($380) for a bracket plus $500 for a flash. I bought a Sony F43AM flash (which I love) & this bracket by Vello. Total price....[$], not $875.The 1st thing I noticed was the plate that secures to the bottom of the camera, blocked the battery door by about 1/4 inch (can't change the battery without loosening & moving the plate). The 2nd thing I noticed was that the arm from the bottom of the bracket to the flash mount had a 1/4 inch play that couldn't be eliminated, so that when you have the flash attached, you get the feeling that if you didn't hold the flash and the bracket arm at the same time, the flash might fall off.The 3rd thing is that the bottom plate has two holes. One is a slot for securing to the camera bottom, and the other is a 1/4-20 for attaching to a tri-pod. The slot uses a thick plastic wing nut that interferes with the quick release plate that I like to keep on the bottom of the camera for quick access to & from my tri-pod.After a few adjustments, I managed the bottom plate. I use the tilt on my tri-pod for verticals because only the flash part of the Vello bracket turns, not the camera. Overall, the Vello bracket works just fine. Also, I have a vertical grip for my Sony a700 that works fine with my Custom Bracket Digital Pro-M. I don't have a grip yet for my Sony a77. I'm not sure if there's enough space for a grip. I can only imagine how that would work. The Custom Bracket Digital Pro-M, is made so that the upright arm that holds the flash unit, sits over the pop-up flash on the camera body. The Vello bracket is made so that the upright arm holds the flash unit over the lens. And when I pick up the camera by the hand grip, my fingers hit the upright arm, there's barely enough room for my fingers to clear. I know you think i'm comparing apples & orangesbut these are all the things that I considered with this bracket, and I believe I'm getting used to it. Given all the "incidentals", I like this bracket. It's lite, compact & I get my portrait shots. All for only [$].

Comments about Vello Quickshot Rotating Flash Bracket:

After adjusting the tension in the pivot system I was able to use the bracket well. It keeps the flash lined up perfectly. My only concern is that there is a little to much flex in the steel. But at the price it will certainly last long enough to be worth it.
