This compact aluminum tripod has 5-section legs that extend up to 5.01' (1.53 m)
Using the split center column, minimum working height is a very low 3.74" (9.5 cm).
Velbon's patented Trunnion Shaft System (TSS) means that each leg extends the entire inside length of the outer leg casing, making the tripod extremely compact when folded.
The "Twist Lock" leg system uses a simple quick twist and pull to extend each leg in one movement. Another quick twist locks the leg.

Comments about Velbon Ultra REXi L Aluminum Tripod:

I bought this tripod for overseas travel and i was surprised by the solid construction and light weight compared to other more expensive options. I wanted a compact tripod and this is ideal at a competitive price.

I can confidently use this on a Nikon D700 with a 24-70 Nikon lens attached.

The trunnion system is easy to use once you understand the mechanism. The Tripod did come with a case although this was not stated when i purchased. I would suggest you practice erecting the legs several times before you use it so you are familiar with the operation and because the legs are quite stiff to move initially.

I was sceptical about the capacity to hold the D700 with the 24-70 Lens on a Velbon PH-157Q Single Arm Pan and Tilt Head as this is quite heavy combo but having tested it i am quite satified with the weight it is able to hold and the stability it offers.

In my packaging i did not receive any instructions and one of the stickers was incorrectly placed on one of the legs. I was able to obtain a download of instructions by searching the web which proved useful. Strangely i could not locate these instructions from the manufacturer site.

Comments about Velbon Ultra REXi L Aluminum Tripod:

I was certainly apprehensive about purchasing this tripod without having first seen it, but having received it, & used it now for a few weeks, I can say I am very, very impressed with it.
It is tiny when fully packed. Very light. Very flexible in how it can be set up. Yes the twist locks take a few goes to get used to, but once you are used to them, they work brilliantly. Sure this tripod does move, it is after all, very light, however, for the weight & size, I think it is very stable.
If you are after a travel tripod, or a tripod like me that you would like to use whilst hiking, then this is very hard to go past. For the money, I can't imagine finding something better.

Comments about Velbon Ultra REXi L Aluminum Tripod:

This is a really well designed piece of gear. It has the widest diameter legs (30mm) of the Ultra series, which I'm sure contributes to its stability. It is notably more stable than any other 5-section-leg tripod I have used, while maintaining a weight of about 2.5 lbs., and surprising compactness (just over 14" folded!). It includes a wrench that allows you to swap the mounting bolt from 1/4" to 3/8" just by flipping it over (nifty). The center column is splittable and is VERY solid when locked down- the latch for this lock is also well designed, as it requires a two-stage movement to disengage, eliminating accidental unlocking. If I had to add one gripe it would be the lack of a hook on this center column for down-weighting, but there is a removable cap so perhaps something could be fashioned to work. Highly recommended.

Comments about Velbon Ultra REXi L Aluminum Tripod:

Excellent build quality and compact when folded as advertised, but not lighter than similar size tripods. Leg locking mechanism is simple and fast, but I am not sure how long it will last (I have only used it for a month so far).

Comments about Velbon Ultra REXi L Aluminum Tripod:

This is a very good TRAVEL tripod. It is light & folds to 14+ inches. I use it with the Nikon D200 with an 18-200 lens with no problems. The only issue is you have to be careful not to overtighten the legs.

Comments about Velbon Ultra REXi L Aluminum Tripod:

This tripod has been part of my equipment bag for about 10 days. From this limited point of view, here are my comments:It's used with DSLRs - D300, D7000. It supports these cameras very well, even with lenses, such as the 18-200 or the reasonably heavy MIcro 105.Positive points: Height; it's almost as tall as my 25 year old Manfrotto 055 at 1/3 of the weight. With this amazingly low weight it is ideal for travel and hiking. It is hard to believe that a tripod with that working height packs into a size of barely 1 1/2 ft.All round Velbon has produced a winner.Negative: I have to get used to the friction locks. It will probably take me another 10 days.B&H Service: First Class.[...]
