Comments about Mamiya RZ22 Digital Bundle:
I am a long time, full time commercial photographer, I do mainly product photography in the studio. I have been using Leaf Valeo backs on Mamiya RZ Pro II cameras since the Leaf backs were introduced in 2002. Although my Valeos are still working well, I wanted to get away from the cables that are needed to run external to the cameras and I wanted a camera with a faster recycle time when I have a shoot with live models. I purchased the RZ 22 Digital bundle with the Mamiya RZ Pro II D and the Mamiya DM/Leaf Aputus 2 digital back, for a good price from B&H. The new bundle also required me to upgrade my computer to a Mac Pro Tower running the newer Intel chips, (the older Valeo's use the older Motorola chips.) Once the equipment came in and was up and running, I did my first shoot with a model holding a product in various poses for some large trade show graphics. The art director and client wanted a whole lot of choices, so I shot 8 gigabytes of raw images for the shoot. This back recycles incredibly fast; in fact, faster than my strobes could recycle, I had to slow down to let the lights catch up. To sum it up, the bottom line is this: The images this system creates were gorgeous; with rich, wonderful, flesh tones, and the new Leaf software 11.5.1 is a great improvement over version 8, which I have been using with the Valeo backs. The camera will work with a CF card un-tethered; but in my opinion, when you see how the images come up in the Leaf software on a good monitor, you will not want to settle for looking at the preview on the digital back, and neither should your clients. There have been a fair amount of changes in the medium format business in recent years, but I was assured that the Mac Group is handling the service end, and they are first rate. Pat [...] at Mac Group took good care of my Valeo's over the years, and I expect they will do the same with my new system as well. Bruce Rohr
