For years, news photogs have been running around with sun guns of all kinds weighing them or their cameras down while production guys broke out the light kits. There was the battery belt, the BP90 bag over the shoulder or some other heavy artillery, or you drained your camera battery with your light. Now that LED technology has taken over the light source world, there is no excuse to NOT have a sun gun. The Dimmable LED-70 by Bescor is light, bright and completely portable. You can change filters in a second, use standard AA batteries and have nothing to weigh you or your camera down. Never change or charge sun gun batteries in the middle of a shoot again! Need that extra punch on the face while doing 3 point lighting? Doing a stand up at a press conference and don't have a power source? With full dimming control, you can be as close as you want or light up a room from the other side. Shooting a wedding reception in poor lighting conditions? Pop it on and fire it up! You won't have to change batteries for five more weddings. And it's so much more affordable than the other LED units out there that you can justify buying it for those seldom situations. This unit should be as standard in a camera case as your microphone. Be the envy of the other videographers in the room. I was. Can't leave home without it!

I bought this to replace a 3-watt Sony light that drained my Sony HDR-HC7's battery. The illumination is an incredible step up, while using far less power (and none from my camcorder, thanks to the built-in battery compartment on the light.) However, I did not realize that this light will not fit my camcorder's accessory shoe without an adapter. I haven't bought the adapter yet, because I'm not exactly sure which one I need. It would have been helpful for the product description to point this out. Bescor could make some money if it would offer the adapters. Construction is a bit on the cheap side, but so is the price -- so not a bad compromise, in my eyes.

Comments about Bescor LED-70 Dimmable 70W Video & DSLR Light:
Bought light for shooting in a dark bar, I was attracted to the fact the light is dimmable, which allowed it from overexposing and looking harsh.
It is a simple light, so it is good for what it is good for, which is more for interview newsy situations.

Comments about Bescor LED-70 Dimmable 70W Video & DSLR Light:
I love how inexpensive, this very very bright light is. Very simple to mount to my camera and light my subject. The only minor critique I have of this light is that it takes 4 AA batteries and they only last 2 hours max.

Comments about Bescor LED-70 Dimmable 70W Video & DSLR Light:
It works, but it isn't enough light for either my DSLR (when doing video) or my JVC HD110. It will work for interviews if you're close, but the light falls off quickly. Great on batteries, just wish it was a little brighter. I would spend a little more next time and get something with a little more power.

This light is bright and can give you a lot of room to work in darker situations. This isn't aknock on this model but I wish in general LED's could be "warmer". The dampening shades are a must. I also wish you could pivot the light but overall I cannot complain.

This is a perfect little light for up close interviews and lighting up items on your B-roll

The price is good for an LED light so you can't be mad at the performance. It will get you some light but if you're shooting independant films probably not enough light that you will need. It has a light dimmer but the max power really isn't that bright. Another thing is the battery cover does not close all the way securely.

For what it costs its a great light! Color balance is pretty good, has a dimmer, and good output. The battery compartment is bad design though. The cover wants to pop off so I have to tape mine closed, but that's my only complaint.

it really works great on low light conditions, I was able to shoot and capture in a disco-like environment with a Panasonic AG-HMC80 wich is not very good in such condition.

Just like other reviews that I have read, I'm going to say that it is a good strong light that lasts long with batteries. But the battery door is flimsy. Although that can be mitigated with a little gaffers tape.

The dimmer makes it more economical in terms of battery usage. All to often, all you need is just a little accent light to brighten your subject.

I managed to break the tab on the gel insert with this light right off the bat. It basically is designed to lock that gel in place so it doesn't fall out. Didn't notice the release on it until I looked at the back of the box as there are no instructions. The battery compartment door also pops off way too easily. I had to use gaff tape to keep it down. The light pretty much feels like it could disintegrate at any moment.
The light performance aside from the build quality is good though. Output on par with what I expected, and the dimmer works well. Battery drain seems to be pretty normal.

Comments about Bescor LED-70 Dimmable 70W Video & DSLR Light:
While I originally purchased this unit just for on-camera video productions of location forensic work, I was so impressed with the performance for the price, the adjustability of the output, and the weight/size, I ordered 2 more to create a table top size lighting set up on location.
For me, the ability to have a light source that goes from daylight (actually a bit higher on the k scale) to incandescent (with the slide in filter) and runs on AAs is a very convenient thing, given the availability of low-price rechargeable AA's these days.
An AC power source is available as well (Extra purchase).
I have used similar units costing 3x the price (a bit fancier with cases and tilt features, etc.) but I must admit I am satisfied with what I got from this item.

For field video recording (night club, interviews..etc)
It comes with two filters and has adjustable settings. Which are much needed because at full level this light is extremely bright. Also the fact that it is battery operate makes it easy to use in small place.
The batteries do not last long. You will probably get approx 50 mins at full capacity. It seems to be a little cheap on the build but I can deal. It sometimes does not seem to fasten very securely feels like it can fall off the bracket at anytime.

This is a purchase that was regrettable. Most noteworthy is the fact that the battery compartment door is flimsy and must be taped to insure that it doesn't pop open. The light output is not as bright as I expected and is minimally useable. This is a nice concept but not well carried out.

Just learning a little about portrait work. Bought this light as a constant light source to put on a light stand for auxiliary light during portraits. Puts out surprisingly good light for the size/cost.
