The the tension knob spins too freely. Other than that no complaints. I also have a Kirk ballhead that is really heavy.

I went into B&H to replace my very well used and abused tripod and head. With very little research done and no prior use with a ball head mount I needed some expert advice from the B&H staff. I was on a budget but needed something duriable and dependable. My last setup I experienced slippage/walking of the lens once tightened down so I wanted to rid that. The sales man directed me to this head. My concern was that I needed a head that could hold my 400mm f/5.6 lens. The load capacity it was rated at along with the price and overall smoothness and ease to operate I was sold on it. When I got it home I put it through the paces. The only gripe I have about it is that when I go to set the lens where I want it and fasten it down with the locking knob the lens moves from the subject I'm focusing on. This is what I wanted to rid but its far less drastic compared to what I was using so its tolerable. The other thing I noticed is that there is some movement but very little within the whole unit when everything is tightend down. This might be me being overly picky but I wanted to mention it. Also, keep in mind this is the first time I've ever used a set up like this so this might be a common thing ball heads.

Comments about Benro B1 Double Action Ballhead:

Landscape Photography. Seems to support the weight as advertise. No problem with ball in vertical shooting with heavy DSLR and Lens. Some problem getting the release plate tight enough to camera -camera can twist in vertical position if not as tight as you can make it. It is tightened with a coin rather than the usual fitting - hard to get leverage. Will look for replacement release plate (ARCA SWISS). Separate tension adjust knob not as useful as I thought.

Perfect for my Nikon D800 and AF-S VR 70-200MM with teleconverter too! Built strong, is stable, and easy to use once you get accustomed to the ball-head adjustments. I use the Manfrotto O55XPROB tripod with the Benro BI ballhead. A perfect combination for me.

The head is terribly over rated for heavy 26 pound loads. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a 300mm f2.8 lense and a Canon Digital EOS 50D to support.

I only gave it 4 stars because, while I have used it, it's only been a couple of weeks.Overall I am very pleased. I am using it on a Benro monopod and currently mostly using it with a Canon 70-200mm L F4. It holds my lens securely and is easy to manipulate in the field. It's also lightweight which is a big + for me.As good, or even better, than the product was the service I got from B&H. [...]

It's sturdy and well-built. It moves fluidly and precisely, all while being lightweight.
