The A1980F reaches a maximum height of 62" and supports loads up to 13.2 lb, making it perfect for point & shoot and DSLR cameras. The lightweight aluminum Versatile tripod weighs in at only 3.9 lb. Its anti-rotation legs feature user-adjustable flip locks to ensure their reliable operation over the long term.

Locking screws in the top plate provide an extra level of security and stability when attaching a head (not included). A hook at the bottom of the center-column allows you to hang a counterweight from the tripod's center of gravity for increased stability, especially in windy conditions or with uneven loads. In configurations with the center column pivoted low, the loop on the magnesium chassis can be used to suspend a weight.

Column-Locking Set Knobs
The two knobs on the center-column collar allow you to free and lock the pivoting and swiveling of the versatile center column, which you can slide out of the chassis easily after extending it fully
Adjustable Leg Angles
The legs can be independently locked into place at three different angles to enable shooting on irregular surface areas or at ground level
Rubber and Stainless Steel Spiked Feet
The tripod comes with both rubber feet and stainless steel spiked feet that screw in and out of the leg
Foam Grip on One Leg
A thick layer of closed-cell nitrile butadiene rubber (NBR) provides a comfortable yet firm grip when carrying your Benro tripod, and it mitigates the effects of extreme heat and cold
Carry Case & Shoulder Strap
Benro carrying cases and straps are made of high-quality, durable materials to provide maximum protection for your tripod and head (not included). The included shoulder strap doubles as a tripod-carrying strap – just slip the strap's lasso around the legs and, at the other end of the strap, attach the clip to the loop on the tripod's chassis

This is a great tripod. It is extremely stable and versatile. There are a lot of options as far as how to set the tripod up to hold the camera at multiple angles. A very worthwhile purchase.

Comments about Benro Versatile A1980F 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

Tripods are a blessing and a curse. For superior image quality, the best tripods are big, heavy, rigid and solid, which provides a stable platform for sharp images. Of course, these very qualities are the ones we hate, especially if you have to lug the thing around. I have one of those, and it stays in my studio. So to me, the final verdict of a tripod review depends on your intended usage and the compromise between stability and portability. My main purpose for this tripod was a compact, reasonably light tripod for travel (pack in my suitcase for air travel) with enough stability to handle a Canon 5Dmk2 with a Canon 100-400mm lens (6 lbs and 17" long). The quality is excellent and this tripod is a great bang for the buck. It comes with a case, strap, tools, rubber and spike feet, and is nicely made. Everything works as it should. It has 4 leg sections, which is what allows it to fold up to 20". The compromise is that the smallest leg section is small diameter, but even so, I found it to be quite stable. The center column can quickly be set horizontally or to any angle. Nice feature. It also has a hood to hang a weight or camera bag for added stability. As a test, I set up my 100-400mm Canon zoom on my 5Dmk2, zoomed to 400mm and took some shots at ISO 100, f11 and 4 seconds. I didn't even lock the mirror up to avoid mirror slap, but I did use a remote release. This is a very tough test for a lightweight tripod, but I got very sharp shots. This was in a studio without any wind, but still, I am pleased. My only wish would have been that they provide rubber feet that allowed the spike feet to screw in and out, depending on the need. As supplied, you can use either rubber feet OR stainless spike feet (both are supplied), but you have to screw one off to install the other. So given my need for a small, compact tripod that travels well, I am completely pleased with this purchase. It is about as solid and rigid as one could expect from such a compact unit. At 3.9 lbs (without head) it isn't super light, but not overly heavy either. (Remember, weight is your friend if you want stability). I mated this tripod with a Manfrotto 498RC2 Ball Head, mainly because I have other Manfrotto heads and wanted to maintain the same quick connect system. I'm happy with the ball head too.If you need a very portable, compact unit that folds down to 20 inches, with acceptable stability and features, I'd recommend this tripod without reservation (I give it 5 stars for this balance between size and portability). If you do NOT need it to be this compact, I'd probably step up to the next larger size and get a tripod with 3 leg sections instead of four. This would be more solid, but for my stated purposes, this tripod was a better choice.

I needed a good lightweight medium-duty tripod (for Nikon D5100) with an ability to position the center post in a horizontal position for macro work. The Benro A1980F has not disappointed. It's sturdy and well made.

I am a professional graphic designer / amature photographer who needs to take product shot photos from time to time. This particular tripod is perfect for studio shots of small objects as the center pole quickly pulls out and slides into a horizontal (90 degree) angle for those overhead shots. I have also used this tripod in the field for capturing nature photography. The legs move independent of one another which is great for uneven surfaces or setting up in tight just off the trail spots. It comes with a nice soft case with shoulder strap. I'm really happy with this tripod.

Comments about Benro Versatile A1980F 4-Section Aluminum Tripod:

The Benro A1980F is what I would consider my first real tripod. That being said, I am extremely happy with it.

Compared to other tripods I've handled, it is very sturdy for its weight and everything about it handles smoothly. Coupled with a typical Manfrotto ball-head, the tripod weighs a little under 5 pounds which I found acceptable to carry around for extended amounts of time. The tripod extends to be really tall, much taller than any tripod I've ever used, and the first tripod that lets me shoot with the camera actually at or above my eye-level. At its highest point, the tripod remains stable which is something my previous tripods could not vouch for. The ability for the center column to pivot at unusual angles is utterly fantastic and I can't really imagine buying a tripod lacking this feature. This feature, coupled with the ability for the legs to fold outwards almost parallel with the ground, make it possible to hold your camera firmly at almost an position in space relative to the center of your tripod. This is truly awesome. Other things I love are the flip-locks for the legs and the foam grip on the one leg for carrying. The tripod also comes with a lot, including a nice carrying bag, tools for adjusting aspects of the tripod, spiked feed, and a shoulder strap.

If I had to complain about anything on the tripod, it would be the latches used to tighten the movement of the center column. I found that I would tighten them and later get some movement because they were not tightened enough. If you are used to the small turns of a ball-head, the turning required to lock them will be sort of jarring. Although, this is something you get used to after using the tripod a few times.
