The Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR is the premier Metz shoe mount flash designed to be compatible with digital Olympus/Panasonic/Leica SLR cameras. To better facilitate compatibility with cameras, this flash features a built-in USB port that allows for future firmware updates via the Internet. Advanced features include a secondary reflector with 3 light output ratios, built-in reflector card for soft light, a metal base for easy attachment, and a constant modeling light for pre-visualizing the flash.
The 58 AF-2 has evaluative pre-flash and is designed to fully support a Olympus/Panasonic/Leica digital SLR camera's TTL system. The flash also features an auto zoom head from 24-105mm that can be set to match the camera's sensor, a full bounce and swivel head (with a fully swiveling reflector system which also contains a flip-out reflector card and a diffuser), a built-in wide angle diffuser for 12mm coverage, and in addition, full manual control with 12 variable power output levels. If the camera has a built-in flash, the mecablitz 58 AF-2 can also be employed wirelessly in the system, even in servo mode.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR:
My camera is a Panasonic FZ 200 and I as I suspected, the pop up flash
has very limited ability. Of course I wanted a flash that would be compatible
with my camera and found that there were not many choices made by
Panasonic. A customer service rep at B&H suggested that I look at the units
from Metz and that turned out to be excellent advice. In the short time I have had this flash, I have tested as many situations as I could think of. auto
zoom, diffuser use, fill flash, etc. It is definitely a five star performer.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR:
The unit is perfect on, and off, the OMD.
I especially like the little front fill light. It's just what's needed when using bounce flash.

I bought this flash to use with my GH2 and my recent GH3.
Did not have a lot of time to play with it yet, i'm looking forward to that. First impression very well built flash. I love the diffusion filter and the bounce card.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR:
Excellent unit; works extremely well with Oly EM5.
Very large unit, not unto Nikons build quality but seems to work better at a lower price, extremely easy to use.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR:
I purchased this flash because I wanted a good quality unit and Metz has been known very well in the industry for making exceptional lighting products. I was drawn to this unit for its performance and value.
With a higher guide number than the equivalent Olympus/ Panasonic flash units, this is more than enough power I would ever need. And having the front fill strobe is another bonus and exclusive to this unit. I also enjoy having the built-in bounce card and wide angle diffuser. Many other makes have these as options or have to attach via Velcro or similar. The bounce card is small compared to what many pros are used to using, but it works rather well and it's one less thing to worry about carrying around.
My only complaints are with the flash mount and the menu system. The flash mount does not feel as substantial as some other manufacturers, in particular those that feature a metal foot. I am not afraid I'm going to break it, but it is noticeable to compare. The menu system takes getting used to if you make frequent adjustments. It does take quite a few button presses to reach settings you might think should be very easy to access.
Overall, this is an excellent unit. I have gotten great battery life with rechargeable batteries in this flash. It works well and is compatible with my camera with no major issues. It comes with a case AND a flash stand when you need to use this flash remotely. All this, the built-in flash and bounce cards, the most power plus a fill flash, a quality brand made in Germany, and all for about $100 less than equivalent flash units. Buying this flash was a no brainer for me.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR:
The 58 is a great investment for Olympus shooters. The flash is as sophisticated and professional as the E-5. The dual flash is key, and the build quality seems great. Only down side is that the menu is a bit confusing at first, read the instructions!

Purchased the product for continued use as the main flash, and as a remote application with flash Olympus.

Comments about Metz mecablitz 58 AF-2 TTL Shoe Mount Flash for Olympus/Panasonic/Leica DSLR:
I had been using the Olympus FL-36 with my E520 and E620 for the last 2 years. The FL-36 is a good flash when the distance is short. I wanted a flash that would give me greater range and faster cycles. The 58 AF-2 delivers. The Bounce Flash with the integrated reflector card is fantastic. I have used the 58 several times since taking delivery (about 2 weeks). It has performed as advertized and more.
