been using these on my FG about a month and mix downs with these. play back on my cheap computer monitors Just exactly what I hear on my FG.

My mixes is much better now. No hearing fatigue. So far I've been using it on my Fantom G for strait 6 hours @ nights and never gets tired of it. In fact, I only stop cause the day is breaking or when I need to use the rest room. It is my go to choice for listening to my mixes.
Its not even exceed the hrs that require breaking in like the K701's but it sound like it may not need that much hours but will wait and see.
I only ran white noise for about 6 hours so far. Maybe when I reach that 60hrs then I will find out. but so far am happy with it.

I got these after my Shure SH840 got stolen so, I would say that the difference beside one is close-back and the other semi-open is that I had to check twice on my SH840 when playing back on cheap computer monitors but Q701, I already know how it will sound on my cheap computer monitors.
This Q701 is a great buy/additional to my start up home studio.
looking forward to add some more Headphones soon.
Highly recommended for going over your mixes/mix-downs and tweaking even voices too. well, you know what you want and I know you need these too.
Make sure you know what your getting cause its only 250mw.
If you want loudness, then I would suggest you go for a much higher mw.
      meant for mixing not blasting.
Headphone amps are great to use on these otherwise know your volume. :D

These are not that great in my honest opinion. I have several headsets beside this: AKG 271 MKII, Pioneer HDJ2000, and Beats Mxr. The Quincy one seems no better than the 271 AKGs. The Quincy one is elephant ears big and quarky to behold upon the head. I'm just not that impressed, though I have only had them for two weeks. Maybe they will grow on me in appreciation.

I use them to check mixes at work and sometimes do some editing and basic mixing at home.
They are highly detailed and balanced in frequency response. Not flattering
Some people may find them a little bass light, but they can reproduce even the very lowest register accurately.
IMHO they are mixing headphones, not for leisure listening.
Although they are made in china (unlike all other akg headphones I have) they are nicely built.

My only complain is that the bumps in the headband are not comfortable in my big head. None of my friends that have used them complained.

They DO REQUIRE some burn-in period of at least 50 hours.

I asked a friend whose father is a professional audio engineer which brand he would recommend, and he said AKG.
The Q701, which I believe is over-the-ear, not on-ear, was in my price range and is just what I was looking for: a great sound, and a comfortable, enveloping fit.
They're big, and not for traveling, but if you want headphones at home for a great sonic experience, the AKG Q701 fits the bill perfectly.

Comments about AKG Q701 Quincy Jones Signature On-Ear Reference Headphones (Black):

The AKG q701 is almost unbeatable at its price. I use a Modi as DAC and Magni as amplifier. They drive the q701 well (I am not sure if it is good enough). The sound of it is surely at a higher stage than the AKG 240 series.
It is light and wears comfortable too. However the one I received has broken seal labels and I don't know the reason. This maybe just coincidence in my case.
At last ,both the black and the white ones are made in china. So it is hard to find one that made in Austria now. If you really want, go for the K712.

Browsing audiophiles and headfi forums these are compared to the likes of $ studio headphones.... if they are properly amped. I got these as PC gaming headphones and the sound quality is there, but turning it up to 100% is still barely at the volume I listen to music at. I'm told you shouldn't have to go above 50-60% to achieve optimal sound quality. I definitely do not have an amp, but I'm planning to get one. My only complaint at this point, I think may be the bass. The Quincy Jones edition is supposedly better with bass compared to the standard AKG 701's. Apparently they don't have an insert inside the headphones somewhere that allows more bass. Overall, i think once they're amped they'll be awesome.

I noticed that the sound is better day after day. The only cons, they become slightly incomfortable after a few hours of listening and they are made in China instead of Austria. Otherwise, i am really happy with this product. Fully worth every penny!

Comments about AKG Q701 Quincy Jones Signature On-Ear Reference Headphones (Black):

The frequency response is almost identical of that to the more expensive K702. I'm assuming it'll also be similar to the even more expensive (~$500) new K712 -- major difference being the slightly extended and increased bass up to 3dB. For the price value and sound quality, these are excellent headphones, comparable in "quality" -- though not necessarily sound signature -- to the more expensive DT880 and HD600/650. From my experience and at this level of quality, it's not so much the case that certain headphones do better in certain genres than others... rather, I find there are particular albums that ALWAYS sound better on these cans, while some of my other albums sound better on my DT880s etc. For example, I prefer listening to 'Snow Patrol' on these cans as opposed to the DT880. Other albums aren't as marvelous sounding on the Q701s as the DT880/DT990 though. To digress, I find the treble on the 990s too hot, causing real, tortuous, piercing pain to my ears even at low volumes. Well, one way to counter that is by using a good EQ to lower those highs. In fact, you can make the 990s sound almost identical to the 880s by simply adjusting the frequency response... While I've heard other people complain that the Q701s/702 sound boring... few bother to mention that you can remedy that by simply making a few adjustments here and there with an equalizer (in your iPhone, Foobar, etc.) While you not be able to extend the bass roll off up to a certain point, you can most definitely increase the bass volume if you want to the Q701 or DT880.

Other things I noticed is that the Q701s distort more easily at higher volumes. They're also very fast sounding and moderately bright; very well rounded and detailed in the mids, and not too spakrly in the upper treble as compared to the DT880s, or dark as the HD650 -- btw, another great set of cans that has a really good filter effect on bad or harsh recordings. A number of (non-audiophile grade) recorded albums exist wherein the mids or treble might be too harsh, sharp, or overly bright or emphasized sounding to the Q701s. In those cases, though not as clear and detailed as the Q701, the HD650 really excel in making those albums sound great for long listening. What else? Well, while the bass is obviously not as extended and engaging as the other headphone models mentioned, it's incredibly super fast and clear.

If you don't like the green color of the cord, B&H offer two kinds of cord replacements (straight and coiled) as well. Overall, this is a great addition to my headphone collection.

These headphones are wired backwards(the left channel signal is heard through the "R" side of the headphone and vice-versa). As such they are completely worthless to me. This is absolutely unacceptable for any pair of headphones no matter how much they cost or how good they otherwise sound. $$$ down the toilet. I have to rate these an "F". If you cannot get the basics right, why bother?

I use this headset for personnal computing and music. I have a dedicated soundcard that will insure the best sound possible. If you are looking for a high quality (no makeup) headset, this is the one!

I have tried other brands, they are heavy, they don't breathe that well and are not as rugged as these. I use to have a AKG K240 studio set that made it well beyond 12 years. This one should do the same.

The Quincy Jones set have the same specs as the 701 pro and consumer series, with less money involved. They are extremely comfy as well. A brilliant choice for the price! Don't expect the best bass ever.

These are reference headphones. You will get the real thing, nothing more. You won't want to use these with a cheap mp3 player or a standard computer soundcard. They will make you wish you had bought a cheap set instead.

The set is an open model, which means that you might not want these for music practice with a band as what you listen will be flooded with ambient noise. Nor to use them in public; people in your surroundings will hear what you are listening to. On the plus side, if the phone rings, you will hear it!

I have been using a pair of Portapros for years. Also have a pair of Bose but was looking for something 'hiher fidelity'. I tried a pair of Senheiser HD25, but they were uninspiring. I remembered my old pair of AKGK240s and found these at B&H for a great price. They really are excellent. A wonderful 3D soundstage. Perhaps a little bass shy. Using them with computer, MusicStreamer II DAC and M Stage headphone amp - plugged directly into a laptop does a GREAT disservice to these headphones.

It's still early days but I'm impressed so far. The only other high end phones I've owned are Sennheiser HD650 and while it's been a while since I've used those so it's hard to compare, I remember them being a bit more closed and dark sounding whereas these are lighter and more open. Very detailed. I use them with a Grant Fidelity TubeDac-11 (dac & amp) with Macbook as my source and it seems like a great little combo. Headphones are very personal so I'd recommend trying them out in person first if possible.

been using these on my FG about a month and mix downs with these. play back on my cheap computer monitors Just exactly what I hear on my FG.
