The DTR550 from Motorola is a digital on-site portable 2-way radio that offers high-quality communication and versatile features in a compact and rugged design. The radio operates on the 900MHz band and offers group calling with access to up to 20 public and 10 private groups. It also provides digital 1-to-1 calling and 1-to-many calling, so that other DTR radios on the same group ID and channel can communicate.
The radio has a full graphic backlit display with contrast adjustment and a backlight timer. The screen will display SMS text message information, including reception and origination info, plus a time/date stamp. A caller ID function stores information about your last 10 transmissions. The radio also supports unit-to-unit configuration for simplified cloning operation with an optional cable.
The DTR550 operates for up to 14.5 hours via the included rechargeable Li-ion battery. This allows you to communicate without worry, even on extra-long work days. The radio has a rugged polycarbonate housing with a comfortable and durable rubber overmold. It meets military 810 C, D, E, and F specifications for shock, vibration, water, dust, and temperature extremes.
Note! Cloning cable sold separately.

Comments about Motorola DTR550 Digital On-Site Portable 2-Way Radio:
They range of these radios is amazing...in the city, tall buildings, open terrain, in the forest and between cars!
Range:
City: 3 to 3.5km
Buildings: They work over 86 floors!!! I have tested them in the Empire State Building! The structure is very impressive! They would work in every big mall, hotel and school!
Open terrain: 4 to 5km
In the wilderness and forest: 3 to 4km
Between 2 cars: 2.5km to 3km
In every condition they shine! Rain, extreme humidity, sand, dirt have no effect on the DTR radios. They audio is very loud and clear when their is high noise or no noise at all! I know what the worst conditions are for the radios, they have been their also! Before them I owned 3 Motorola HT1000 UHF 4Watts public safety radios they were getting to old, they batteries didn't last more than 5 to 6 hours. They range was not very good...static was a big problem! In some places I was on the same frequency as the security or maintenance... Now with my 3 DTR two-way radios have no problem and the ended costing less that other professional equipment. The last thing is the battery it last up to 16 hours, and we talk a lot!
