The Seagate 1TB FreeAgent GoFlex Ultra-Portable Hard Drive (Black) includes a 1TB GoFlex Ultra-Portable Drive and USB 3.0 interface adapter, which provides up to 10x faster data transfer rates compared to USB 2.0 interfaces. It ensures automatic continuous backup and protects your privacy with powerful encryption software. The GoFlex drive is designed to work with alternate interface upgrade cables (sold separately) for maximum flexibility and increased transfer speeds. This kit includes the USB 3.0 adapter, which is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 interfaces as well. The kit also includes Seagate's Dashboard management tool for easy management of backup schedules and file encryption, as well as viewing drive statistics on your computer. The GoFlex Ultra-Portable Drive is compact and bus-powered for use with laptops and mobile devices. It's also compatible with both PC and Mac operating systems.

Just purchased a new quad-core iMac with Thunderbolt port and wanted to take advantage of the lightning speed. I also have a Maxtor external 500GB drive (non-portable) and was doubtful in the beginning about purchasing a portable drive-type as a second backup, but 1TB FreeAgent Ultra-Portable really fits my purpose. Very easy to set up, fast and so far dependable. The price was reasonable, but was surprised the Thunderbolt adaptor was more expensive than the drive itself, plus you need to buy the Apple thunderbolt cord to make it all work. But all-in-all the total costs seem reasonable. The only complaint, although small, is that the thunderbolt adaptor signal light is designed to faced towards the back where you can't see it, verses the front where it should be. Tried turning it around, but don't like seeing the connector wires. Perhaps Seagate will read this review and correct for future drives. My service & delivery at B&H was prompt and flawless and I will be a returning customer.

I had this for almost a month when it suddenly self-ejected from an iMac I was working on. Come to find out there is an issue with the partition, the drive can no longer mount, but it is visible in Disk Utility. I tried Repair Disk, but it doesn't work. Now I'm trying all sorts of ways to get some of my data back since most was already backed up. I used this for storing video footage and video editing. I'd suggest a more powerful and durable drive for those who would use this for heavy work.

This drive was gently handled and never left the office yet crashed while still under warranty. Seagate offered to replace the drive but wanted to charge between $600-$1500 to recover the data. Seems to me that if their drive failed, causing loss of data while still under warranty, they shouldn't be charging a steep price to recover data. I'll stick to LaCie in the future.

I have a home network consisting of 1 desktop, 1 laptop, 1 pad, and wifi for the grandkids to use when they are here. When my laptop crashed recently I realized that inspite of a cupboard full of dvd's storing pics I was forever behind in my backup procedures. I bought the 1TB FreeAgent GoFlex by Seagate to backup pictures, finance files, etc. It works great and was well within my budget.

This drive was the most inexpensive of my usual brands with the capacity of 1TB. It does what it is supposed to do with no problems, as my other Seagate products have in the past.

I use this with my mac. just reformatted in utilities (you can always reformat HDs, even those formatted for pcs... which are often cheaper). Instructions are included when you plug in the HD- you open the HD and click on the easy install instructions.
Seagate is the HD that's inside Mac HDs. It's trustworthy. Seagate was recommended to me by a top photography professional.

I use this drive to transfer images between Mac & PC systems seamlessly. The drive is fast to begin with. Usable right now with USB and will be able to upgrade to Mac Thunderbolt with adapter and get even higher transfer speeds. No AC power needed; works off of connector. Should've come with a protective sleeve.
