The Rode Blimp Windshield and Suspension System is a limited edition signature version of the standard Rode Blimp and is available exclusively through B&H for a limited time. This stylish edition features a black finish and perfectly compliments the Rode NTG-3B B&H Limited Edition microphone.
The Rode Blimp is a professional, adjustable windscreen and shockmount solution for popular shotgun microphones measuring up to 12.79" (325mm) in length.
The system is comprised of a professional pistol-grip with dual hoop suspension mounts that may be adjusted anywhere on the support bar. A short XLR cable provides an XLR connection at the base of the grip and connection to the microphone. The blimp windshield basket cradles the suspension mounts, and a fur windscreen covers the entire windshield basket.
The entire system is designed for handheld operation, and a 3/8" thread at the base of the grip allows the system to be boom mounted as well.

Although the product is all plastic, with proper handling, it should last long. It is great when a product comes out of its box, and it contains all possible parts; the Blimp comes with all that's needed to start working right away. Glad I purchased the Blimp.

Comments about Rode Blimp - Windshield and Suspension System (B&H Signature Series) (Black):
I've owned the Rode Blimp for several months now. I'm very pleased with the overall quality. It is a great system for the price. It is a tad heavy and can feel bulky on the end of a boom, but it is blimp/fur system. So, that is to be expected. This thing is going to last. I would recommend buying a nice c-stand a pole holder for long shooting days. Also, a quality boom pole is a must.

Handles the heavy Rode's NT4 Microphone without issue and makes recording worry free when the wind kicks up. Comes with most everything you need to record outdoors.
CONS: I wished it was available with a 5 pin XLR cable included for the NT4 mic which uses a 5 Pin. It arrives outfitted with a standard 3 pin XLR.

Very resistent and adaptable blimp. The weight threw me off at first, but I'll manage it. It's possible to use directional microphones of diferent sizes just a few adjustments. I'm not a big fan of the internal cables.

Comments about Rode Blimp - Windshield and Suspension System (B&H Signature Series) (Black):
I shoot video outdoors. Normally a Rycote softie works well with my AT835ST shotgun mic. When shooting in windy conditions, the softie isn't quite enough. The RODE Blimp cuts the wind, not the sound. Even without the supplied Dead Wombat, the blimp outperformed the softie in a 20-30mph breeze. The rumble is greatly reduced compared to the softie. Add the properly groomed Dead Wombat for an even greater reduction. I noticed a slight reduction in highs when the wombat was added, but that is very minor. The RODE Blimp = good clean, usable audio when shooting in windy conditions.
The B&H Signature Series Black looks sharp too!
I only wish it came with a case.

I have been making films and music videos for a few years now, and I couldn't imagine life without a blimp. If you plan on filming outdoors, without a doubt it's the best way to keep wind from ruining your audio.
Most Shock mounts are junk, but the oversized shock mount, and hand gun style recording blimp allows you the best quality in keeping clean audio.
I have seen this blimp used in Hollywood full feature films... if they use it, then it definitely will suite any needs of beginner or advanced filmmakers.

I recently purchased Rode's NTG-3 boom mic and purchased this blimp to get the most out of the NTG. Boy am I glad I did. This blimp will give you the flexibility of shooting in any outdoor conditions. It greatly reduces wind and unwanted ambient noise while keeping my target and subject clear and crisp. If you have or are looking to get a professional grade boom mic, you have to get this blimp. You won't regret it. It will greatly expand your recording options.

Comments about Rode Blimp - Windshield and Suspension System (B&H Signature Series) (Black):
This blimp does its job. Wind noise is admirably reduced, especially with the dead wombat in effect. However, it is definitely going to add some weight if you plan to mount on a fishpole. The pistol grip makes it versatile, but adds some size and weight. The shock absorption system seems effective at isolating handling noise. Build quality seems a touch flimsy: fuselage doesn't slide on/off that easily, the tiny rubber bit isolating the cable exit point has fallen off, the caps don't screw on too snugly, and the XLR-M connector slides in and out of the pistol grip some, rather than remaining securely planted as I imagine it was intended to do. I'm also a bit concerned about the variable tension plastic lever clamp which locks the blimp's angle in relation to the pistol grip. The angle can still be adjusted even when locked, but I'm wary of stripping threading by over-tightening. I suppose my first warning should have been the included folding brush, which promptly fell apart upon its second opening.
I'm using this zeppelin with the Rode NTG-1 microphone on the end of a Gitzo boom pole. I'm giving the product four stars, because despite my misgivings listed above, at the end of the day this product does what it needs to, which is cutting down unwanted wind noise. And despite the prohibitive cost, it's still much less expensive than the competition. So if I had to go back, I would buy it again in a heartbeat.

Comments about Rode Blimp - Windshield and Suspension System (B&H Signature Series) (Black):
This does an excellent job of wind blocking my shotgun mic on the breezy day I tried it on. It was easy to hold with the pistol grip for the couple hours of capturing nature sounds.
Without any sort of instructions, it took a bit of figuring to get the rubber gasket correctly seated around the cable, where it enters the blimp. And, I found that little bit easy to knock off if you open up the blimp to insert or remove the mic.

Comments about Rode Blimp - Windshield and Suspension System (B&H Signature Series) (Black):
The Rode Blimp is exactly what you would expect for a microphone blimp. It does its job in reducing noise, especially for wind. I highly recommend that you read the "whats in the box" tab, because I didn't and was surprised to find that Rode included the dead wombat wind shield. So I ended up spending an additional $50 because of my oversight. The one issue I have with this system is the grip attachment. It doesn't lock as well as it should so the weight of the blimp is constantly pulling the microphone downward if I move my hand at all. Overall, I think it is a great buy.

If anyone knows Wellington, New Zealand you know it's windy here.
I've done a few tests and it does a fine job of reducing wind noise to a usable level in all but the most extreme conditions

Simply put, this does the job wonderfully. It's heavier than the Rycote, but it's just as durable, The handle makes it much more ergonomic, and the design is overall better than the Rycote. Not much else to say, really. This thing does the job amazingly!...if you don't mind the weight.

I'm working on a documentary film (my first) and to save money, I tried using a Zoom H1 with a Kel-Tec fuzzy windscreen to record audio for my film. Unfortunately in all but the lightest air the wind sound was disconcertingly loud. This is not the fault of the devices used--they simply are not meant to counter substantial wind. I finally had to raise the funds to purchase a good shotgun microphone, pre-amp, and this blimp, to get the results I was after.
I am completely satisfied with the Rode Blimp. The B&H Signature edition is a nice black color, which looks even better than the original. The blimp is sturdy, simple, and effective. Rode thoughtfully provides a few different sizes of microphone holder, some extra rubber bands, an adjustment tool, a "dead Wombat" faux-fur cover, and a brush.
I was even able to use a rather thick condenser microphone by jury-rigging the rubber bands. This worked quite well, allowing me to record environmental sounds.
One of the best purchases I've made.

I picked up this product because wind has ruined several of my shoots, and I couldn't bear it any longer. I love this blimp. Cuts out my wind issues, adjusts to the mics I already own, and priced to move.
