    I decided to
try this mic because of it's incrdably low price and because it had no reviews posted. My logic was that if it was junk I wasn't out much; to my shock and awe the first time I used this mic I couldn't beleive it's performace for the cost. This mic performs as well as those costing ten times as much. My first project with this mic was an indie short and it exceeded my expectations and needs. To start with it has very solid construction, metal case, recessed solid feel switch, and 3 pin XLR out. All of which are trademarks of a superior product. When I heard the sound in post my thought was that this mic does for sound what HD does for optics.

The SGM-12 is a relatively heavy mic, and it uses a AA 1.5VDC battery, so it does add a little weight to the already heavy HMC 70 (especially if you add a wide angle lens and light). The switch allows you to choose between cardiod and super-cardiod, and I have not yet discovered it's range limitation.

It does reject 80-90% of off axis sounds. For instance it will pick up the sound of an F-16 at low altitude overhead, but so will anything. The SGM-12 is a shotgun mic and so no, it's not really versitile in that it will not do the job for every mic on the set. It does it's job and it does it very well.

LE DOY 4 ESTRELLAS PORQUE LO UTILIZO CON UNA VIDEOCAMARA SONY PJ710V, LE AYUDA BASTANTE A REDUCIR DISTORCIONES QUE EL MICROFONO INTERNO NO PUEDE. LARGA DURACION EN LA BATERIA.

    Solid mic

    By Jon

Comments about Nady SGM-12 Shotgun Electret Condenser Microphone:

Solid microphone where the audio is very nice, though not amazing. Functions we'll as boom mic or other similar application, since the range isn't extremely far. The built in power is helpful as is the option to switch between cardiod and super-cardiod settings, though on super if gain is set too high you will definitely start hearing tinny tube.
Impressive performance overall, especially considering the price.

Comments about Nady SGM-12 Shotgun Electret Condenser Microphone:

It was a good buy for the price. We use the mic to pick up stage skits, violin and tabla. It works good from a pickup. It does not cover the full range of frequencies. Probably it some EQ tweaks will fix that.

The only negative is that it did not come with a mic holder for the stand.

For the[$] I paid for this I wasn't expecting really great build quality nor great sound. I got both!I've paid much more for microphones that didn't sound this good. Nicely finished, professional XLR connection, and great sound. My only complaint, and it's minor, was the case was a little flimsy.

Comments about Nady SGM-12 Shotgun Electret Condenser Microphone:

I bought this mic as an impulse. I thought that I could use it to improve video sound quality. So far it has been an improvement over on board mics with a little bit more precision when it comes to capturing sound. The only problem I have with this is that it did not come with a cord to plug the device in. This forced me to spend another $ on a xlr to 3.5mm cable.

We use this as a backup to our Rode shotgun and the sound is resonably close, only a small amount of EQ is needed to match. Very light mike so I don't know how it will hold up in the ling run. Very sensitive.

Comments about Nady SGM-12 Shotgun Electret Condenser Microphone:

I'm giving this mic 2 stars because it did pick up sound better than the in-camera mic (but what doesn't?). Pre-amped by an iRig Pre, the sound level could be brought up to a reasonably high level without excessive noise floor. HOWEVER, this mic did not deliver shotgun style performance for me at all. Side rejection was extremely minimal with this mic, so the recorded sound quality was not good.Comparisons: A Rode VideoMic Pro on camera is better for me than this mic boomed from above. This mic performed exactly like the EM-320 shotgun I got from @ for about half the price (a year ago), although I see prices for those have crept up also... My Sennheiser ME80/K3U (20-30 years old?) has MUCH better side rejection than this mic, but I still don't consider it to be great. At least it performs like a shotgun, and provides pretty nice audio quality. There is no comparison, really.

Comments about Nady SGM-12 Shotgun Electret Condenser Microphone:

For such a low price, I am impressed with how well this mic captures sound from a distance (in supercardioid mode). The audio quality isn't that great, but you can fix/improve it in post. I think this one sounds better than the Audio-Technica ATR6550, and it's almost half the price. I'd say this is a good, cheap solution for filming on the go with a low budget. I would've given it 5 stars, but a screw came loose within 20 minutes of messing with it. That being said, this mic was not built that well in my opinion. I ended up placing the threaded screw back in, and holding it in with electrical tape.

I purchased this microphone to use in a short film, and it has worked out great so far. We mounted it in a homemade boom pole and the audio was fantastic. Even with an air conditioning unit right behind it, it picked up conversation perfectly. After some experimentation we determined that holding the boom still gave the best results as turning the microphone to each speaker in turn gave it a dubbed quality. For the price, this microphone was certainly worth it. I may have even dropped it down the stairs (in the case) and it is still crystal clear.

Amazingly cheap, but I still got decent sound after a 3 day shoot and it still works. Still some light static with the sound, but with no time for production and even less of a budget, it filled the bill and got passable sound.

I use this mics for quick video promo's for my church. I works well for what I'm doing. A great price, especially for those on a small budget.

I bought this as a last second thing and was on a budget. It works okay. I would've liked if it fit in the shoe on the DSLR camera. The mic itself didn't even come with the necessary cable to connect it to the 3.5mm jack. So that was an additional 20bucks to get the cable. But if you're on a budget and need to do some quick interviewing this is the mic to use.

I recently bought a Panasonic AG-AC7 Camera for my Video Production Business. The video quality was amazing but the sound was lacking slightly. I tried a powered external mic, but the quality was still lacking . then I added a DXA-2T adapter for XLR and the SGM-12 Shotgun Electret Condenser Microphone. The Sound quality is amazing ... i have covered live shows and events . i could not ask for better sound

I bought this to see if a $ shotgun mic was better than the onboard mic and if it was up to par to even use. I was surprised by the results, you would think it's junk but it's not bad. I like it more than the audio technica mic that's $ it's the atr something. you don't need an amplifier for it cause the mic picks up and is pretty loud on the super cardioid mode. regular cardioid is perfect for close up situations. all in all if you have a small budget and want and external mic I'd suggest getting it, keep in mind you also need an xlr to 3.5mm so it works with your mic jack on the camera and a shock mount and maybe a cold shoe adapter if you need it.
