Comments about Nady DMP-2 - Compact Microphone Preamp:

I use the unit at live performances. . . . . . basically at busking gigs. it is placed in front of my vocal mic to boost the signal to the level of my guitar which runs thru a (different) peamp.

The NADY unit does the trick adequately tho it's a bit noisy for my taste.

Comments about Nady DMP-2 - Compact Microphone Preamp:

We were initially happy with the unit overall, until it went out in the field three times and the volume knobs came off and disappeared. Not sure how that happened, maybe it was not really designed for field use?

Comments about Nady DMP-2 - Compact Microphone Preamp:

The intent was to replace the M-Audio Buddy that is no longer made. The Audio feed thru and phantom power are clean. The draw backs on the DMP-2 is no Headphone out and the output impedence is 300 Ohm.
It only runs on a 9V battery and with its current draw it would not run just over 4 hours on that.
Still looking for a sutable replacement for the M-Audio Buddy

Comments about Nady DMP-2 - Compact Microphone Preamp:

When I ordered this thing I was expecting a tiny preamp. This thing is bigger than a stack of 2 3.5" hard drives. The battery compartment is a joke, there is a piece of cardboard that prevents battery insertion. I had to yank it out but so far its all good. Nothing seems to short inside, I think designers were overly cautious.I've used the preamp for a little bit and I feel the other reviews saying its hissy or awful are using it improperly. Audio sounds perfectly clear, even when turned up. If you turn up too high there is distortion as you're obviously clipping. Now what does it actually output? Almost line level. Say what? Seriously, throw it on a line input and turn the gain all the way up, you'll just barely hear sound and yes it WILL be clipped. So what is this thing for? Its to amplify your mics to a level where whatever mediocre preamp you have in your *camera* or other device can be set to 0 or even - gains and the DMP-2 does the heavy lifting. Its for FIELD USE.. that is why there is a battery. What were you expecting? $1k professional mixer quality? Other solutions cost hundreds more. If you don't mind the size the price and results are nice. If you're getting hiss/noise/etc check your other equipment first.

Comments about Nady DMP-2 - Compact Microphone Preamp:

Bought this to use with a Zoom H4n with the Hosa Technology 1/8" male to 2 XLR female Y-CABLE. I thought it would give me the ability to control the levels of each channel on the mic-in on the H4n and also give true 4 channel XLR input to the zoom with phantom power on every channel.

Turning the levels down to 2-3 on the H4n and only using the gain on the Naddy still resulted in a very bad hiss with every mic I tried.

Also using this through the xlr inputs of the H4n (with the phantom power off and levels low on the H4n) phantom power on the naddy, still resulted in unusable high hiss levels. This will not be a solution for those looking to boost the signal going into the Zoom from a low signal mic such as a RODE NTG2. It was worth a shot, but ended up returning it.

The Hosa cable though works very well with the Zoom H4n with self-powered mics like the NTG2. Much better levels off the mic-in with the NTG2 battery powered than through the H4n's XLR in wether phantom powered or not.

Other thoughts: Bulkier than I expected. Battery compartment is extremely difficult to get the 9v battery in.
