  • For Flatbed Scanners with Backlight
  • Holds 35mm Negatives Flat & in Place
  • Allows Scanning of Sprocket Holes
  • Works with Non-Standard Frames

The Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask holds your 35mm negatives flat and in place so you can properly scan them with a standard flatbed scanner with a backlight/transparency unit.

Unlike other scanning masks, the DigitaLIZA accommodates the digitization of experimental analog photographs by scanning the whole negative strip, including the sprockets, without defining the frames individually. This lets you scan overlapping exposures, doubles, triples, and panoramas.

Distance between film and the scanning plate is 0.05" (1.2mm)
Film Type 35mm
Scanning Area 9.1 x 1.3" (230 x 33mm)
Distance Between film & scanning plane: 0.05" (1.2mm)

I gave this product a very negative review before, but finally found that it is possible, with considerable difficulty, to use the DigitaLiza mask to scan Lomography negatives if you have the right scanner. Poor instructions! But then finally it works and produces fun photos from the Spinner 360. Make sure you get a scanner that works -- I finally succeeded with the Epson Perfection v330, but what a headache to learn how its done!

Comments about Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask:

I picked up one of these to hold film flat for "scanning" with a DSLR and macro lens. Does a nice job of holding complete strips of film, up to 7 standard full frame shots.

I develop my own film and let the strips hang to dry. Other film holders I've used with scanners make attempts to clip the film in place obscuring the sprocket holes. This device will show the sprockets by just gripping the edges of the film.

The device does not grip the film very tightly and thus film that wants to curl lengthwise will be hard to hold flat. I solved this problem by putting my negatives into a contact sheet holder and leaving under a heavy book for a few days. Then the film is flat and this device works very well.

Comments about Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask:

I purchased this 35mm scanning mask so that I could scan panoramic and sprocket-hole images. It was a little confusing to understand how all of the parts worked together (the instructions weren't very clear)but once I got the hang of it, loading and unloading the film was a cinch. I use this mask with an Epson v500 scanner, and it took me a while to figure out where to place the mask on the bed so that the scanner could detect the images, but it works well and is compatible with this scanner. Over-all it does a fine job.

Comments about Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask:

i started shooting film again after my digital slr finally quit on me. after mimicking the effects of film on my digital work i decided to go to the source and pick up a diana f+ kit. to push the artistic boundaries further i picked up the 35mm digitaliza, which scans the film with the sprockets. its surprising to see what is exposed on these areas of the film since you cannot view what is shot until the film is developed. that's where you get the happy accidents in film photography. i surely miss that and i'm purely satisfied here. the digitaliza is slightly annoying when you get the film sitting in the holder and the magnet decides to snap on strongly on the wrong place, which if not careful can bend your film. but since the film is already imperfect from my diana f+ with its scratches and light leaks, the bend in the film is just another welcome feature to my work.

Comments about Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask:

Well, I don't normally buy Lomography products, but I needed something like this and bought both the 35mm and 120 sizes. I was pleasantly surprised. Build quality is great and they're easy to use, with the magnets.

I have only one complaint, which is that since the lower end Epsons only put the transparency unit down the middle of the bed, and this isn't like the normal holder that extends out to the side, it is very difficult to get it exactly straight on the scanning bed. I'll need to cut some cardboard piece or something to space it out from the side. If Lomo had included some sort of expandable spacer to help straighten it, this would be a 5-star rating.

Magnets are used to close mask but same magnets pull on the scanning head preventing you from getting and kind of scan. The width of the mask is too small to fit film properly while the length does not even accommodate a long panoramic from the Lomo Spinner. Their origami style boxes are also rather annoying.

I am using a Epson V500 and the included holders did not due justice to my panoramics or full frame stuff. The placement on the glass is tricky till you get that it cant be all the way to the top and you need room for the scanner to see the device. I have great scans due to this smart little device. 100% useful

Comments about Lomography DigitaLIZA 35mm Scanning Mask:

This was the solution to scan exposed film sprockets. Regular film holders don't let you scan the sprockets because they are used to hold the film into the scanner. This great product works with magnets and hold the film tightly just from a little border leaving sprockets free and visible, ready to scan.
                                  Works with every single scanner!
