The Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di-II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon is a 15x high power zoom lens designed exclusively for digital SLR cameras using the more compact (APS-C) digital size image sensors. The focal length of this lens is equivalent to approx. 28-419mm in 35mm format. Designed as an "all-in-one" lens, it will meet almost all photographic opportunities without changing lenses.
The addition of PZD (Piezo Drive) ultrasonic autofocus motor helps make this lens lighter, shorter and slimmer than any previous lens in this category, and provides faster, quieter auto-focusing.
The VC (Vibration Compensation) mechanism allows the use of shutter speeds that are much slower than otherwise possible, with no perceptible increase in image blur. It automatically detects movement of the camera and compensates for camera shake when shooting a moving object. This feature is a must in a lens with this longer range of focal length. This lens will focus down to 19.3" (0.49 m) throughout the zoom range.
This lens is designed exclusively for DSLR cameras with smaller-size sensors. It is NOT compatible with 35mm film cameras and DSLR cameras with image sensors larger than 24 x 16mm.

I was hoping to replace my canon 18-55 (MK II) and 55-250 (MK I) with this lens.
On the 55-250 end of the Tamron PZD, it is definitely an upgrade. Some of the Tamron PZD's advantage over the 55-250 are:
-Auto focus is much faster, and 55-250 is simply frustrating to auto focus (p.s. faster than the 55-250, not other lenses)
-Nearly no noise when auto focusing
-IF, works better with a polarizer
-The colors are amazing!
-Images are quite sharp
-Extra focal length (250-270), sometimes you just need that little bit of extra focal length, but most of the time it doesn't matter.
However, when compared to 18-55, the Tamron PZD has significant distortion on the the 18-55 end, mainly 18-30ish. This distortion can be easily corrected using a photo editing software, but this takes some extra time.
Prior to buying this lens, I read many reviews about comparing this lens to prime lenses and the "L" series.
I personally don't think it is fair to compare images from a super zoom to those from a prime lens. A prime lens usually has sharper images, and is able to get to lower f-stop (I wouldn't say Tamron PZD's bokeh is nice, but acceptable), whereas a super zoom can switch to a large range of focal length easily. They belong to different categories.
As for the "L" series (people like to talk about 24-70L), MAN! THEY ARE EXPENSIVE! You get what you paid for, and I think the Tamron PZD is worth its price, and even more. (And again, it's a super zoom, one should know what to expect from a super zoom, which is not necessarily perfect images)
Application of the lens: the Tamron PZD is a great travel, walk-around lens, because of its zoom range, VC when hand held, and light weight. Sometimes it is also suitable to take event pictures. It works very well when under sufficient light, and when in low light, it's so-so. I recommend using this lens when taking snapshots and candid pictures. You will find surprises :)

Bought it based on excellent reviews all over the net as "all-in-one" lens for Canon -T1i.
Compared with 18-55 kit lens - in 9 out of 10 pictures kit lens had visibly sharper focus. Against 55-250 - Tamron looks a little better on telephoto end, at normal end is clearly out of focus. Got better results with manual focus.
Returned it for refund -excellent service from B&H. May be was a bad copy, but did not want to spend another couple of days in frustration.
Pretty bad zoom creep as well, heavy and pricey for the quality offered.
Lesson learned - if something looks too good to be true - usually it is.

Bought this lens to avoid having to carry multiple lenses for travel and event shooting. Size is great and it's amazingly quiet! It does focus at a little bit different pace than my Canon kit lenses that came with my T2i, so I'm which focus modes, etc. are the best in various situations. The focal length is amazing!

This lens is easy to use for a beginner like me. I have captured wonderful pictures of grandkids, animals, raindrops...the list goes on and on. I look forward to opportunities to use..inside, outside, wherever! The automatic is a great option as well when letting family or friends take a shot. I have posted many pics online and received wonderful comments as to the clarity and beauty of the shots. I have forwarded info on this lens to several people upon their request.

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:
I was interested in purchasing a lens with a longer zoom range. I thought of going for a 70-200/300 but decided that the convenience of an all in one zoom outweighed the decrease in image quality. Unfortunately, the decrease in image quality was too noticeable for my taste. If you don't really care too much about image quality, this is a great all-around lens. It is light and the VC is amazing. However, at the shorter and longer end of the zoom range, the corners are really soft. Otherwise, it's not terrible. Decided to return it and save up to purchase the Canon 24-105L. Even though I'll have a lower zoom range, I will have better image quality.

Comments about Tamron AF18-270mm f/3.5-6.3 Di II VC PZD AF Lens for Canon:
First my advice: Be very clear about what you want to accomplish before you buy. I've always used Canon L-series lenses, and frankly it's hard to imagine any lens competing with them for quality. Those remain my go-to lenses for professional-quality shots. But this summer I'm going to Europe, and I need a lighter weight solution that captures memories. This is perfect for that sort of use. A week after buying, I took it on a 6 mile, 800-ft climb/hike and shot everything from flowers and lizards to long-distance vista. It did the job, and I didn't have to lug around 15 lbs of glass. (I saw several other photographers carrying their 70-200s + whatever else they had in their packs, and believe me they were sweating!) If I was going for the 'very best,' no, this would not be the solution. But for 'very good,' it is a great solution.
It's a little slow to focus, a bit less crisp, there is a bit of focus-creep, and it needs more light than my other lenses, but the trade-off in terms of weight and not changing lenses all the time is well worth it.

I use this lens with my Canon 20D and it works perfect. I was looking for a good quality and affordable lens with a wide focal range, so I only have to carry a single lens for most of my shots. The second thing that I like about this lens is the vibration compensation, that is most noticeble when you past the 100mm. So, focal range, size, weight, VC, and fast auto focus, works perfectly for my needs. The lens gets a little noisy when auto focusing, but since I'm not shooting video with it, I don't really care, and if I wanted to shoot video, then I would be using my video camera, not a DSLR.
