Comments about Avid KeyStudio - Personal Recording System:

Needed something basic and inexpensive to record rough song ideas, including drums, keys, and an audio interface for guitar, bass, and vocals. This product provides all the above and includes far more sounds and effects than the literature states. It includes Pro Tools SE, a stripped-down version of Digitech's flagship software and an inexpensive 49-key MIDI controller (cheap plastic). So long as your expectations match the price tag, it's a great buy. I could have easily spent more than $1000 on a synth, audio interface, recording software, and virtual instrument software, but Avid's Keystudio covers the basics and offers more than expected for cheaper It's a smart way for Avid to expand their customer base to beginners and stir their appetite for their bigger/better products.

Comments about Avid KeyStudio - Personal Recording System:

For the price, it's a pretty good package. What tripped me up was installing ProTools SE. I have Windows 7 Ultimate. Upon completing the software installation, the system would indicate a MS Register Server error. If someone goes to install it, she should first go to control panel>system>advanced system settings, click the right side Settings button under Performance. Next, click the Data Execution Prevention tab on the top right side. Finally, click the upper button "Turn on DEP for essential Windows...." I spent a while trying to track this down and I hope this helps anyone looking to install it. :)

Audio only comes out the headphone jack of the USB M-audio module when you're playing.

Comments about Avid KeyStudio - Personal Recording System:

-Bought this for my mother to have a basic studio set up in her house upstate. Does exactly what it advertises. Good keyboard with limited controller abilities. Nice to be able to control volume on individual tracks from the keyboard itself. Keys are responsive and the pitch bar and modulation work just as responsively as my personal axiom pro 61. Also comes with a starter version of Pro Tools for those just looking to get involved in basic digital home recording. Only downside is that maybe that you can get the keyrig for slightly less but that doesn't come with Protools anyway. Just depends on what you are looking for.

Comments about Avid KeyStudio - Personal Recording System:

I am an aspiring music producer currently in college. This keyboard works perfect for creating songs and loops. I prefer to use it with Garageband. The keys are a bit firmer than a keyboard without velocity sensors. Although it is a 49 key it is very lightweight and is not rugged. The pitch and modulator knobs work well. The blue octave and edit lights look very nice when working late at night with my lights dimmed. It is too small for the keyboard stand that I already owned. It could have also come with the music stand. Pro Tools SE would be great if I could record on it. I keep getting an error. It could possibly be from me using Mac OS X Lion. The Micro usb also works well when connecting speakers, headphones and a mic. Overall, this is a great entry level MIDI controller for beginner songwriters as well as people on a budget.
