I am a professional freelance photographer so I use this tripod on many different assignments. Just today I used it to do a portrait shoot and a product shoot. I did not notice any of the drifting other described in there reviews. It was solid the whole time I was shooting 12 different products and useing a 105mm macro lens.
I am 6'0" tall and with the legs fully extended my viewfinder is right at my eye level. No more stooping down to look in my camera. With the center column extented I would have to stand on a stool to look in my viewfinder. I can tell it will be great to shoot slightly above my subjects during portrait shoots. I think this tripod is built very solidly and will be a great asset for many years to come.
It is a bit heavy but this is not an issue for me as I do not find myself carrying it around for extended periods of time. But then again if I were a nature photographer I would look into carbon fiber if I were concerned about weight. The fact that it is solid and a great hight are good enough for me.

I use this tripod for outdoor photography in the evening when I need slower shutter speeds. It's light, though carrying it around for to long can become a bit heavy after a while. But great for a short walk from the car to your location. Legs are easy to adjust, but ball head feels flimsy and it's feels loose. Even after trying to turn and tighten camera still wobbles a bit after I press shutter release. Have to use 2 second delay as not to have all the camera shake. Doesn't feel quiet professional but maybe it's my particular tripod that was damaged during shipping, or maybe I havent learned to tighten it yet. Either case it's just so-so. Nothing to write home about. It gets the job done. That's about it.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod W/QR Ballhead:
Manfrotto was heavily recommended to me and I can see why. With the vast number of tripods out in the market narrowing it down to Manfrotto made selecting this tripod very easy. I've been very happy with the ease of expanding and breaking it down. It does seem to have some weight but not enough to bother me. I plan on getting a bag or straps for it when I go on photo walks.
The head is very easy to manipulate and locks on very well. I'm using a D90 and it hasn't moved on me.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod W/QR Ballhead:
I got this tripod right before I was heading into a windy area on the East Coast. This tripod is worth it, and for the current price, it's a steal. It's not exactly lightweight, but the weight certainly helps against the wind. The quick release is well-designed; it's easy to use and prevents accidental release. I shot long exposures with this tipod without using a self-timer or a remote, and there was no camera shake at all (in the wind, too!). This also allows for panoramas, but don't plan to go a full 360 degrees. It only allows for a certain amount before locking in place. If it's one thing I would change about this tripod, it's to make it fold smaller.
The exclusion of a carrying bag is a necessity for the price, but I fixed it using carabiners and a tennis bag strap.
For reference, this supported my Nikon D600 and 24-70 f/2.8 just fine, and supporting the 70-200 f/2.8 should be easy for this tripod.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod W/QR Ballhead:
Manfrotto makes a quality tripod and his cheaper model is no exception. Although it is heavy, this plays into how sturdy and solid it feels. The QR ball head is a breath of fresh air from my old tripod's pan head. I have no complaints because the heavy weight doesn't bother me.

Primary use is with Celestron 20 X 80 astronomy binoculars. Ball head is a little awkward for heavy binocular use.If you are tall (over 6') you will still have to crouch to view objects at the zenith.Good attributes - strength, quality of build, smooth operation.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod W/QR Ballhead:
This tripod is a solid tripod and the fact that it is affordable is even better. I have used Manfrotto tripods before in high school but when I moved on to college and started shooting a lot out of school I was suddenly in search for a tripod that was relatively compact, affordable, and could handle a decent amount of abuse. Naturally, I went with what I knew best and I found this tripod to be exactly what I was looking for. B&H was great as usual with the delivery of the tripod and it came quickly making my buying experience fantastic.

Comments about Manfrotto 294 Aluminum 3-Section Tripod W/QR Ballhead:
As you should know, Manfrotto is one of the best (my favorite) tripod, Camera equipment Brands out there. When I use this tripod I use it for long Exposure Shot (mostly at night or when I taking a shot that I really want to be perfect in every way (like scenic views). The best part about it is the lock on top of the legs cause its so easy to twist. like you really don't have to put much effort into twisting them to make your legs wider so your tripod can be more closer to your surface. But at the same time its also bad. I started to lean on them from above for a bit and the legs were kinda spreading apart like if were to brake. So don't put to much weight on the tripod.

So far, I am satisfied. It holds my Nikon D7000 securely, even with a 70-300 VR attached. Though, I wish it was a little lighter. And, if Manfrotto added a small bubble scale it would be really great.

I'm 6' and I can easily get my camera up over my head with this tripod. Nice and stable, but not particularly lightweight so I don't take it everywhere, but I like being able to change perspective.
