Doubling as both a slider and shoulder brace, the Glidetrack Shooter SD (Standard Duty) brings high-end polish to run-and-gun video productions. Designed as a lightweight and affordable alternative to more cumbersome dolly tracks, the Shooter SD gives you the power to create smooth, Hollywood-like tracking shots as well as stable handheld footage. Whether attached to a tripod (via the 1/4" or 3/8" mounting thread) or resting on its two scratch-free feet, the Shooter makes the most of its simple, industrial-grade design to deliver smooth-as-glass motion.

When handheld shooting is required, the entire lightweight unit transfers easily from tripod to shoulder, its dual handgrips pivoting downward for two-handed support. A soft shoulder pad adds comfort and friction to keep shots stable and secure, aided further by a removable center handle. Ideal for video-enabled DSLRs and small-to-medium-sized camcorders, the Glidetrack Shooter SD lets you add visual panache to your productions, at minimal cost and weight.

Doubles up as a shoulder brace for 5D, 7D, GH2 and similar DSLR-type cameras and small camcorders.
Adjust from floor-mounted slider, to tripod-mounted slider, to shoulder support in seconds!
Hand grips also act as levelers for uneven surfaces. They can be adjusted without tools in a fraction of a second--just press the button and turn, then release to lock!
Handles can be adjusted in an instant to whatever position you like using one hand. For standard Glidetrack sliding mode just flip handles up in line with the track, and you're set to go!
Includes central handle that can be added/removed quickly to offer an even greater degree of flexibility when in shoulder mount mode. When not in use, just drop it in your pocket!
The carriage can be locked in position using the small adjuster on the side of the carriage.
Rear foot locks in behind your shoulder to brace/triangulate against. Fits easily in your luggage for transportation/travel.

So far I've used the glidetrack to film doc broll outdoors, a wedding, and for macro tracking shots of a small book. It's lightweight and simple and works quite effectively to give a little dramatic boost to shots. If you are filming large things (like a mountain) then the effect of the glidetrack is pretty much null unless you incorporate things in the foreground (like leaves or trees so you can tell the camera is tracking). Occasionaly the track will go bumpy, and I'm not yet sure why. I haven't tried the readjustment or the use of Pledge that are reccomended to fix it. You will definately need a tripod with quick release to put the glidetrack on in addition to the tripod head you mount to the glidetrack itself. I tried to mount the track directly to a tripod with the head off, but the screw was too long so it would actually bump or stop the moving track on the glidtrack from sliding. Using some nuts/washers to avoid that made the track too wobly. I got the 0.75m glidetrack shooter, and I feel like it is a bit long for the shooter component. The back legs that on the 0.5m are supposed to rest against your neck to take off the weight, but the 0.75m is much to far away to take advantage. You get a tiny piece of foam to stick on as shoulder padding, and I think this was a little dissapointing; however, it still seems to be just as effective as any other simplistic shoulder mount.

I was pretty excited about this, but was quite disappointed by the overall quality. Most of all I am surprised that nobody commented on the poor quality of the handles! I am using a Canon 7D with a 28mm 1.8 lens (pretty light), and the handles have a very weak plasticy feel to them. They are also pretty small for my hands, and I do not have giant hands or anything. When switching to shoulder mode, you have to hold it with one handle first and that really makes me nervous given the quality of the handle.

My second problem with the handles is that they are way too close. Again, I am not a beast or anything, but comparing this to something like Shape Spider (similar design but much better), I found that my hands were way too close for comfort and the width of the end connecting the handles should have been larger on the side you were supposed to hold it from.

It works good as a slider, but then I could get a slider for $100 if I only wanted a slider of this quality. I'd really like to find a better replacement for handles. The screw in middle handle has better built. Overall, not too happy with the purchase.

Comments about Glidetrack Shooter SD - 30" (0.75m):

I've used this thing as a slider for over a year now and I'd rank it as "acceptable". I often struggle to get smooth slides but I can generally make it work. In terms of being a shoulder mount...don't even consider using this for that purpose. The handles are made poorly and unless you throw some kind of weight on the back it will provide no stability whatsoever. Also, the camera sits too high on the track which makes the user unable to see the LCD screen straight on.

When I got this slider it seemed like it would be usable but the first time I took it on a job and had to count on it it jammed up and I couldn't get a smooth move to save my life and had to lug it around the rest of the wedding. I ended up returning it and spending the extra money for a high quality slider that I could count on. Maybe if you could motorize this thing you could make it work. Other than that I would not recommend it.

It works. but the bar is too flexible. Can be a pain to get a level glide on a tripod. You bassically need two tripods. one on each end. On a flat surface works like a champ.

Comments about Glidetrack Shooter SD - 30" (0.75m):

This slider is perfect for my Canon 5D mk II. It is giving me quality dolly style moves every time. I predict that it may need some WD-40 after several dozen moves, but its still a quality piece of equipment. Not to mention that it doubles as a surprisingly comfortable shoulder rig. While the shoulder pad is just a simple piece of foam that sticks underneath the rails, it is actually decent and gets the job done. Especially when compared to the cost of full featured DSLR rigs, this is a fantastic option for those of us that can't spend a thousand or more on a well-known rig. It doesnt just get the job done - it does the job well! Highly recommended!

I chose this over the Igus slider simply because it could also be used as a shoulder mount. And while I was aware that it would be a little awkard than other shoulder mounts, what really makes this unit useless as a shoulder mount are the HANDLES! I am suprised noone mentioned it anywhere on the web in any of the reviews. I am not a giant by any use of the word, and the handles on this thing are plasticy and too small for my hands. If you ever have to change focus while hoping to hold the shoulder mount with the other, you simple won't be able to. The handle is way to weak and holding the shooter with just one handle, you get this feeling that its gonna break any minute. I'd probably not have bought this in retrospect.

I'm a Wedding Videographer. This portable, reliable, track, as well as doubling as a shoulder mount really gives me versatility when I need it. That being said, this thing is HEAVY. I suppose that is a trade off. It tends to stick when you put more weight on it. One way I have found is, if you spray a little bit of Pledge and wipe it down or wax it up with some wax paper, it works wonders! All in all a great product.

It works exactly as advertised and is extremely smooth. When used over the shoulder it isn't the most comfortable thing in the world, but it definitely gives you a very stable shot with the ability to manual focus. Definitely recommend it.

The build quality is very good, no complaints there. The track tends to get dry and causes a lot of grabs in the sliding, so you should oil it up before each shoot with some WD-40.

On second thought I probably should have bought a slider with a crank. It's too much work and takes too many takes to get a perfect slide. There are a lot of ways to screw up your motion by snagging your sleaves, bumping your hand or elbow or whatever else. I think the most important flaw is that it seems to be hard to get the tripod plate really tightened underneath because of the distance between the camera support and the track. The screw for the tripod plate inexplicably screws up a fraction of an inch too high and stops the slider from being able to move beyond half way. Maybe a 1/8" washer would help? I'll have to try it.

Comments about Glidetrack Shooter SD - 30" (0.75m):

This is a tight piece of gear for a fast paced, compact production. These days shooters are expected to have a high output with a low input source. Glidetrack really adds value to your production for such a simple 1 time low cost. EXCELLENT BUY.

I got the Glidetrack for the obvious slider moves, but what has made it invaluable has been the ability to use it as a shoulder mount. Anyone who has tried to do handheld stuff with their DSLR knows that it's pretty much impossible. The Glidetrack offers the perfect solution. It's easy to go from the ground, to a tripod, and to your shoulder with no hassle.

The Glidetrack does what it says it's going to do. I use it for my Canon t2i. The downfall is I wish there was a way to turn the screw into the tripod head or camera instead of having to turn the camera around on the screw. This doen't give you much option in terms of what direction it will face.
