Out of the box, the remote feels light and toy like. After installing the batteries, it gains weight and performs fantastic! Feels great in your hand and is simple to use. Seems like the first time I turn it on for the night, my camera will not respond to it's wireless input. I have found that plugging directly from the transmitter to the camera and activating the shutter one time while plugged in, then switching back to wireless cures this problem. Mystery to me as to why this method works, but it does.
If you set the timer for 30 minutes, when you download your images and read the EXIF data you will see that the timer is SPOT on EVERY TIME!!!!!!

This is the best wireless release I've found for Canon cameras. In fact, at the moment it seems to be the only one available, though under many, many, many different names, and sometimes with cosmetic differences.

It's a clunky unit, and it works.

Until it breaks. Or starts firing randomly. Which it will.

I've been through four (I think) in the last three years, under both the Pearstone and Vello brand names--both of which are B&H house brands. If you buy one of these and use it in the field, it will break. The longest I've had a receiver survive is 16 months. The longest I've ever had a transmitter survive is 18 months. The shortest is about six months.

The miniphone contacts inside both the transmitter and receiver are very flimsy, and pressure on the cable can break them. Sometimes they also develop random faults, such as the receiver screen glowing green and shutting off after ten seconds of on time.

They're also completely unsealed, and if they cross the dew point, condensation will form inside and the receiver will fire (or stop firing) at random. Every reciever I've had has done this.

Sometimes, the reciever will start firing and refuse to stop. Every unit I've had has done this at least once.

Sometimes the transmitter's button will get stuck on. Every transmitter I've had has done this.

Sometimes the transmitter's button just won't work. Two of the transmitters I've had have done this.

Unfortunately, I've used several other wireless releases for Canon cameras, and this is the best--which isn't saying much.

If B&H would pot the electronics in epoxy (~five cents materials and probably about the same for labor), improve the construction of the miniphone contacts using a solid jack, instead of flimsy bent copper contacts (maybe another ten cents), use a right angle mini-phone connector to reduce strain (maybe a hundred bucks to make a new mold at the factory in China, and then no added cost per unit), and improve the button construction so the button covers don't slide into the casing or stop making contact with the switch beneath, this would easily be a four-star product. Hell, if they fixed all that and redesigned it so the unit only used one kind of battery (either AAA or AA), I'd give it five stars.

Instead it's two stars. And the only reason I rate it that highly is because there are even worse products on the market.

It is easy to program the features, I used it on Canon 6D for night sky shots that converted to timelapse. The only shortfall is the maximum number of shots (99), I would think the number should be higher (or let the camera battery and meory card capacity to dictate the shot numbers).

Comments about Vello Wireless ShutterBoss Timer Remote (Canon 3-Pin Connection):

I am on the fence at whether to give it 4 or 5 stars. The one flaw I've discovered so far is the function that lets you take consecutive shots does not work once you hit a certain shutter speed. I tested it to do four consecutive shots at 10 second exposures, but it only took one. This issue can be overcome by using the more advanced programming feature that lets you choose intervals between shots and just setting the interval to 0 seconds. Not that big of a deal, so I decided to give it 5 stars. I would recommend.

Comments about Vello Wireless ShutterBoss Timer Remote (Canon 3-Pin Connection):

This is one of my most common go-to pieces of camera equipment. There are less expensive remotes, and since I just purchased my second one of these, I surely wish it was less expensive. It was painful to purchase this for the second time but after several years of service, I had dropped the handheld part (transmitter?) on a very hard surface a few weeks ago and it no long always worked as it should. I did search for a cheaper alternative but in the end replaced my old one with the same remote because it is really a great remote. I love the many functions but mostly I love that it is a radio remote and does not require a direct line of sight with the front of my camera to work. This is really handy in so many shooting situations. For example, I set my camera up in my yard pointed towards a tree with bird feeders and take pictures while I wash dishes! Ha.

The only downside is, as I have said, it is a little pricey. Also, because I do use it so much, it would be awesome if someone designed a custom case to store and protect it while not in use. I have found a small padded bag to hold the transmitter, receiver, cord and spare batteries for each part but I think custom bag would take up less room in a camera bag and would be well worth having for this item.

Unbelievable control of remote shooting schedule, timing, durations, etc. Much easier to use than anything on the camera (5DMkIII) itself. Small wireless receiver sits on the hot shoe easily and is very lightweight. Programming is stepwise and easy to do. Bulb function is particularly useful for long exposures. How did I live without this type of unit so long ???

Comments about Vello Wireless ShutterBoss Timer Remote (Canon 3-Pin Connection):

I have the wired Vello Remote. My main reason for getting this wireless was so that I can shoot remotely from another room while working on my photography. At this time I am taking a lot of bird shots at bird feeders and around them and I am still able to be working on the computer with my photography work. Beats getting up and down and scaring the birds while I am moving around in the room where the camera is set up.

I will also be using to shoot other situations inside and out.

The only problem is the transmitter/receiver can not keep up with my high speed needs. There is a long pause and it only takes 2 shots between the pauses. Not like the wired unit as there is no delays for high speed. Just hold the trigger button and it keeps up with the cameras needs for high speed shooting. This is the only reason I gave it the lower 4 rating.

I bought this to use with my Panasonic FZ200. I had previously purchased a Pixel branded one from another online retailer and it didn't work. This one worked flawlessly out of the box, and the shopping experience at B&H was nice and simple. There is no on/off switch for the remote which is a bit of a drawback, but not a deal breaker.

Comments about Vello Wireless ShutterBoss Timer Remote (Canon 3-Pin Connection):

Easy to use and works great, but the batteries readily die if you don't take them out after every session. It just doesn't turn itself off and sloshing around in your camera bag, turns itself on easily too. Nothing was more frustrating than that first sunrise in the mountains and finding out there was no juice.

The controls are easy to use manipulate, i use this for a remote trigger and time-lapse. Very functional and the signal has a great range for setting up leaky shots of humming birds and other wildlife you want to capture when time and patience afford it.

Comments about Vello Wireless ShutterBoss Timer Remote (Canon 3-Pin Connection):

This unit does everything it says it will. I have not tested the range of the Wi-Fi but it has worked at all the distances that I have wanted it to work.
I did have to exchange the first one I bought because the shutter release button on the transmitter only worked at the halfway position. It would not fully depress and release the shutter. The second one works about 95% of the time. The functions requiring the timer work well and the shutter release button is not used to activate them.
This unit is built somewhat cheap. It could and should have some improvements that other reviews mention. I am going to guess that mounting the little circuit board better and using higher quality buttons would do wonders. The unit is not weather sealed so I am still wondering when that is going to be a problem.
Overall I like what it does for me, but for the price, I would think the product should have a little more quality.

Comments about Vello Wireless ShutterBoss Timer Remote (Canon 3-Pin Connection):
