Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

I tried the only other brand that makes a true 3D consumer camcorder first, then purchased this JVC GS-TD1 and wow. Sorry brand S but JVC has first place in the race. I have tested this camcorder under every scenerio I have thought of, close up (3ft) to full zoom at a recording distance of 200 yards, yes 3D effect is not as strong at such range however if panning a scenic view i.e.: a canyon, distant waterfalls etc. the long range image is crystal clear, real life color balance and objects closer in view due have a strong 3D pop. The included software is very basic, however very easy to make a 3D DVD and playback on a blu ray player/ 3D TV. Recorded a firework show using a mild zoom and did get the wow factor when viewed 3D. Audio is very sensitive, adjusted to -2 and now perfect. Summary: best 3D camcorder on current market. Also JVC has a pro version, however specs are the same, same zoom, sensors, lens, audio, etc. it's just all black instead of having some silver trim. Add the LCD lens hood sold by B&H for bright outdoor use to avoid LCD screen washout.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

I have used this product mainly indoors, where lighting is not so good, very satisfied with f/1.2 lens and precise 3D recording. Battery included would not be sufficient for most situations, consider buying a spare or high powered one.
Menu and touchscreen are very easy to use, a little bit slow at playback responses. Remote controller works fine.
I'm playing mp4 directly, but recording at highest resolution need post processing for DVD/BluRay recording.
      All connection cables are included.
It is not a filmmaker pro cam but being a little gentle you'll get absolutely same results.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

Although I had some reservations about buying this camcorder I think I made the best decision. I just came back from Yellowstone and was able to go from 2D photo and video to 3D photo and video with one finger. Best to use a video tripod but my Manfrotto camera tripod was not so bad. After reviewing the results I am sooo pleased and EVERYTHING looks better than the 3 other cameras that were used. My only disappointment is I did not receive the special USB cable that is unique to JVC and this camcorder so I cannot download any of the videos or photos.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

Bought this camcorder from the B&H used store for[$] it was anAmazing Deal. It was pretty much brand new. Let me say as owner of the fuji film w3, bloggie 3D,and the panasonic G2 3D. This one is my favorite 3D Video device.I just upgraded to it from the panasonic Sdt750. It is a huge difference. The 3D video screen has lots of out of the screen effects. I takes great 3D videos and 3D pictures. The 2D video and photos are also awsome. I chose this over the Sony td10 because it has a faster lens and it has more features. Overall I am very impressed with it. I finally have a camcorder I can hold onto for a long time.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

If you buy one of these, like me, you will be a pioneer in 3D video recording as the ecosystem for this is still in development, and you will have to figure out ways to distribute and view the content.

That said, this camera is a gem, and amazingly refined for a first generation 3D cam as it incorporates many features. What attracted me to this camera was that its image quality seemed as good as Hollywood 3D blu ray disks seen right out of the camera. It has excellent low noise performance in low light and is highly resistant to showing blow out of highlights, a common problem of some video cameras. Colors are rich.

I compared this with the Sony HDR-TD10 when they were shown at CES and NAB shows (I attended both) and to me this camera had a sharper, lower noise, lower blow out image. This is possibly in part because of its f1.2 lens and quality amplifier. (Bye the way, you can turn the gain off if you want. A lot of cameras don't let you do that) The camera also offers loads of real easy to use manual controls, including shutter and aperture, which as I understand it are lacking on the Sony which is only all automatic in 3D video mode. The zoom on this camera is 5X optical in 3D, which is sensible because any 3D effect is degraded in a 3D video cam when zoomed in a lot. It is better to move closer. It has 10x zoom in 2D mode. The Sony, on the other hand, offers 10X 3D zoom, but this is really not sensible, encouraging you to shoot bad content rather than walk closer.

There is a wide selections of formats to record to. For 3D you can shoot in AVCHD with a selection of two levels of quality or you can shoot in MP4(MVC) with two levels of quality. The AVCHD is 1920x1080 squeezed side by side, meaning both eye channels fit into the one 1920 x 1080 frame. The MP4(MVC) however has 1920 x 1080 frames for each eye, just as used in 3D movies on Hollywood blu ray disks.

This is where it gets tricky. The quality of the MP4(MVC) is the best, but right now it is hard to find ways to work with it. You can play it from the camera into your 3DTV alright, but if you want to edit it there is nothing for the JVC except their own "browser" software which is limited. Sony Vegas 10.D just came out a couple of weeks ago and works for the HDR-TD10 but I have yet to find anyone on line that claims it works for the JVC yet, even though both cameras are supposed to be using the same standard.

On the other hand, the AVCHD loads directly at very high quality on a mac into iPhoto11 without installing anything. This is amusing because Apple does not officially support 3D yet, but their software just sees the big 1920 x 1080 frames so you can just edit it like a regular HD movie. Of course, in the end you then play it on a device (most 3DTVs) that can read 1920 x 1080 squeezed side by side movies.

In either case, if you use removable SD cards you can copy all the folders from the card into a safe place on your computer to save them, and then drag them back onto the SD card if you want to see the movie again on the camera. That is what I am doing until more choices in editing software are available.

Some reviewers complain about the 3D autostereo screen on these cameras but I like it a lot. They just don't understand how to view them.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

JVC did it! i set everything to auto and the colors come out very vivid. more vivid than my hmc70. with the gain on, it's very good in low light and i see no grain. gain off, will need LOTS of light.

not a lot of 3D software available too. so I had to shop for one. i got the Magix move edit 17 for now, but will eventually need to upgrade to Sony V or final cut.

I extract photos via software, and it is very crisp.

It captures good sound. It never peaks even on manual and auto controls when using an external mic. the on board is very horrible. it's like standing next to the A/C. so i always use an external mic anyway.

I've used it at a wedding, community performances, and just watching my baby son grow. 3D TV will soon replace HD, so why not capture now while i can.

overall, LIKES: for a 3D camera that zooms, adjusts when zoomed, great color, decent low light, large lcd, 64 gigs, vivid colors, lens distance, I would give it a 4.

i DISLIKE: touch screen, no xlr, limited gain and audio control range, limited color adjusting range. So auto produces the best. the lens cover closes manually, unlike canon products. no affordable software that edits 3840x1080, so the two eyes are squeezed. I was hoping to get the full unsqueezed HD. but compared to the Fuji W3 video, this is 10x better.

for the price, it does what it does. to ask for more, that version would cost 10x more, so good enough.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

I am a 3D fanatic, and have been shooting 3D photos for several years. What was lacking was 3D video... until now.

I have 2 Loreo LIAC's, 2 Fuji W1 and 2 Fuji W3. While I was able to shoot video with all of these, they were not very good as far as quality is concerned.

Enter the JVC GS-TD1. This camera takes incredibly awesome video. I was pleasantly surprised at how good the 3D effect was due to the somewhat smallish lens seperation.

The 3D HD video looks incredible. After using it for a few days, the controls are pretty easy to navigate, and understand. Of course, reading through the included basic manual helps.

The 3D photos are decent as well, and I may very well make this the camera I take with me for everything. The Fuji W1 and W3 take good 3D photos, but they suffer from quality issues when zoomed. I think this camcorder's photos are almost as good, at least when viewed on my 46" Panasonic Plasma.

The photos and videos are easily viewed on my 3D Plasma. I connect the HDMI cable, turn on the camera and the TV turns on in 3D mode. It can't get more simple that than that.

The night performace / low light performance in video mode is excellent. However, this is not true for photo mode. You need a well lit scene to get decent result from snapshots.

Now, there are a few things I don't like.

The biggest dissapointment being that to view the videos in 3D, you must view them through the camera either on the LCD or connected via HDMI to a 3D TV. I was somewhat purturbed that the videos cannot be edited and viewed on the PC in 3D. I have a 3D video setup on my PC and was hoping to edit/view on the PC. For this reason I deducted 1 star. I am hopefult that the necessary codecs will be available for download at some point.

However, to conserve memory in the camera, you can offload the vidoes to a hard drive, and copy them back later to view them in 3D.

On the plus side, the photos are standard MPO format, and can be viewed / edited with the current crop of 3D capable photo tools - Stereo Photo Maker being the best.

The included software - why is it called 3D Media Browser? It cannot do anything in 3D. The booklet says you can burn DVD / Blu-Ray in 3D from the files in the camera, but I haven't tried that yet - that's a weekend project :)

                    No flash for photo mode

The LCD in 3D mode is not that great. It looks very good in 2D, but 3D is not as clear, and there is a very specific "sweet spot" that must be maintained.

The AVCHD videos can be opened in all the numerous video apps I have, but they cannot be viewed in 3D. They are side by side horizontally squeezed. Even Vegas Pro 10, which is 3D capable, cannot seem to do anything 3D with these files.

The MP4 files will not open at all. I eithr get a "cannot play" error, or the program crashes.

Aside from the few things I don't like, this is still a great video camera, and I am having a lot of fun with it.

                    I would recommend this.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

The deciding factors for buying this 3D Camcorder were:

                    1. Automatic paralex correction.
                    2. Low light performance at wide f1.2 lens.

As soon as I received this 3D Camcorder, I visitied the National Aquariem in Baltimore, MD. The low light condition of the aquarium posed absolutely no problem. According to my wife, the footage taken with this camcorder was better than what she saw with her naked eyes. By the way, I play the video on a Sony 3D TV.

Next I took it to a high shool music event, where one of my child was performing, I sat as close to the stage as possible in order to enhance the 3D effect. Although, I wished wider zoom range for shooting occasional close up to my child's face, the footages were quite impressive.

A few days ago, I went to the famous Tidal Basin in Washington, DC. The cherry blossoms were in full bloom. The footage came out beautifully, with branches of cheery blossoms sticking out of the screen gently swaying in the breeze. The day was blindingly bright, the LCD screen looked really dark, I wished JVC provided an Optical viewfinder for this otherwise wonderful 3D Camera. I could partially solve the problem using the 3.5" LCD shade made by Canon for their camcorders (also bought from B&H).

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

I've had my GS-TD1 for a week now and due to the poor weather here in San Francisco right now I haven't done a whole lot of shooting so far. However I have scrutinized The images I've taken, under various conditions, and I'm extremely happy with the quality of my images and of the quality of the build of the camcorder. I have been very pleased with the quality when viewing recordings done in both the AVCHD and MP4(MVC) modes.

I've been especially impressed with recordings I have done at night. The recorded image is very close to what the eye perceives and there is a lack of grain in the images as compared to my other camcorders and to the Fuji Finepix Real 3D W3 which I have been using for a year to take 3D snaps. The anti-camera shake feature works very well for handheld. Having 3D zoom and all the manual features is terrific. The auto mode of shooting has been great so far and I've just begun getting into the manual features.

The 3D viewing screen is big and bright and the touch sensitivity works well. I don't think the 3D image on the touch screen is as solid as that on the Fuji Finepix Real 3D, but it works as well when viewed straight on. In the 2D mode the viewing screen in very impressive with a very sharp image.

So bottom line I am really happy I bought the GS-TD1. I think that JVC has done an excellent job in the design and implementation of a consumer 3D camcorder. I view my video on a Samsung 55" 8000 series LED TV and the output looks great to me in either format. The results of shooting in the AVCHD mode look better to me than what is being shown in 3D on DirecTV or down loadable on Vudu. There is very little crosstalk or ghosting in my images. I'm not thrilled about JVC's included editing software but I expect it to improve.

I would recommend this camcorder to anyone wanting to use a compact 3D camcorder to shoot videos to enjoy on their 3D TV. I for one love the 3D experience and as complicated as it can be to create 3D images, JVC has done a great job making it simple and portable for everyone. Good job JVC!

This camcorder is very easy to use and the results are exellent.
I am using Sony Vegas 10c to convert the 3D video from the camera to be used with the Nvidia 3-D glasses.
The only thing I don't like about this camera is the monitor which is a far cry from the picture quality of the monitor for the Fujifilm FinePix REAL 3D W3.

Comments about JVC GS-TD1 Full HD 3D Camcorder:

Without comparing against any competition, this 3D camcorder feels solid in my hand. The LCD menu is easy to scroll through. The LCD in 3D mode is about a 5 on a 10 scale. While Sony's upcoming 3D camcorder is a well-deserved 10. Shooting in sunlight is next to impossible because the LCD screen is useless. You'd have to use a hood. Too bad there's no optical viewfinder. Maybe in the next release.

Many who video/edit use an editing software. Roxio's Creator 2011 does an acceptable job in both 2D & 3D dept., but lacks FX's that most other editing suites use. I'm hoping JVC is smart enough to supply their 3D codec to Sony's Vegas Pro 10 (it does edit 3D content).

I'd be interested in comparing this (JVC) camcorder to the upcoming release of Sony's 3D camcorder.
