The dedicated Vello ET-73 Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 100mm f/2.8L Macro IS USM Lens.

Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. Moreover, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface to further prevent or limit lens flare. And since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact.

The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Designed to accommodate the exact angle of view of the camera's lens.
Minimizes flare and ghosting by blocking out stray light.
Protects your lens from accidental impact and the elements.

The benefit is price, less than the Canon hood.

Comments about Vello ET-73 Dedicated Lens Hood:

It fits well on the lens and the hood has the same dimensions as the Canon hood. However, the interior does not have the fuzzy, light-dampening coating that the Canon hood does. It has a texture to the plastic, but it is not as good as the coating. With light angled in you will get more refection off the interior sides with this hood. I feel that the Canon hood is probably worth the difference in price.

Comments about Vello ET-73 Dedicated Lens Hood:

After accidently losing some, I replaced all of my Canon OEM lens hoods with these generic ones for everyday walk-around use.
Major price difference between them, similar build but these generic ones dont have any flocking as compared to the Canon OEM's.
Bought some black flocking sheets from Michael's and spray mounted them on the inside. Not bad for the price difference.

Comments about Vello ET-73 Dedicated Lens Hood:

I lost my Canon lens hood when I left it in a hotel room. I replaced it with the Vello after market hood instead of a knew Canon hood, which was about twice as expensive. I was not disapointed. Good quality construction, perfect fit, and light dampening felt like material on the interior. Everything I was looking for at a great price.
