The dedicated Vello EW-65II Lens Hood is specifically designed for use with Canon's EF 28mm f/2.8 Lens & 35mm f/2 (non-IS) Lenses. Please click here for a complete compatibility list, and to see a list of available lens hood options.
Lens hoods are primarily designed to prevent unwanted stray light from entering the lens, by extending and shading the end of the lens. A dedicated lens hood is designed to perfectly match the specific focal length of the lens it was designed for. Moreover, this hood features a non-glare matte finish on the interior surface, to further prevent or limit lens flare. And since the end of the lens is extended, you also get the added benefit of some extra protection from accidental impact. The bayonet mount is designed to also work in the reversed position, allowing the hood to be placed backwards over the lens for a more compact storage solution.

Comments about Vello EW-65II Dedicated Lens Hood:
I use this on my Canon 35mm prime lens as both protection for the lens surface and a sunshade. It's serves it's purpose and like official Canon lens hoods, you can attach it in a reverse position for storage.
The only negative I can report is that it's rather difficult to detach. There are two pressure points that retract the grip that holds the hood in place, but it takes some effort to actually detach the hood. Attaching it is not typically a problem.

Comments about Vello EW-65II Dedicated Lens Hood:
This is a well made hood that bayonets to the lens rather than a screw in type (good thing). It has a good finish, and mounts and dismounts smoothly.
Perhaps a little larger than it needs to be.

I only wish it screwed on, instead of clipped on. Otherwise, just fine!

Fits well on the Canon 35mm F2. Nothing to complain about. Nice cheaper alternative to the official Canon one.

Comments about Vello EW-65II Dedicated Lens Hood:
Normally when I buy a lens hood I look for aftermarket that is close to factory build. I try to buy something that'll be good quality for a cheaper price
