The 0204 USB 2.0 from E-MU is a compact and portable 2-in/4-out USB audio interface, especially attractive to the laptop computer user. It offers 24-bit/192kHz recording and playback, direct monitoring, and a host of professional features.
The unit features a microphone preamp that doubles as a balanced line input, and a Hi-Z/line input. A 1/8" mini jack is provided for use with microphones that feature this size connector. This input can power 5V condenser microphones.
The two Class-A preamps can be run independently or in stereo to amplify guitars, keyboards or microphones, with individual ground lift switches. The package includes Acoustica Mixcraft LE 4 software for Windows that provides everything needed to create, record, edit and mix.

I got this unit by a recommendation in a blog about measuring audio distortion. It works quite well in conjunction with any kind of fft anaylsis program. The only caution is the 192 kHz sample rate does not work for me, although the problem is more likely my computer. At 96 kHz sample rate you can only see 48 kHz of bandwidth, so even the 5th harmonic of 10 kHz will not be visible. That means you should limit the measurements to no more than 8 kHz or so.

EMU 0204 was very easy to install and operate. The sound card was originally purchase to run on a windows XP sp2 laptop. Installation and operation was straight forward with no unexpected problems. A couple of week later built windows 7 system and again installation of hardware was just as easy. Plugged in USB cable ran installation program with device installed in a few minutes. Small icon displayed by clock for minor speed configuration. Application used was Ham radio deluxe, PowerSDR-IF Stage v1.19.3.5. tested on both Windows XP Sp2 and Windows 7 professional 64bit.
