The Arrilite 750 Plus from Arri is an enhanced version of the tried-and-true Arrilite open face line. Arri started with the basic design of the Arrilite 800 and optimized the reflector to increase output 21% using a 750W HPL lamp which uses a compact filament that concentrates the most light where it is efficient. The result is almost double the output.

The detachable accessory holder handles not only scrims and barndoors from the Arrilite 650 Plus but accepts Chimera Video Pro Plus softboxes without having to purchase a dedicated speed ring. In place of the traditional yoke Arri offers a one-arm stirrup which offers greater movements, as well as a heat-proof handle on the back of the head. Lamp change is quickly accomplished via bayonet cap locks.

Whether your field is film, video or news gathering the Arrilite 750 Plus is a great addition to your lighting setup.

Arrimax reflector enables better light distribution
Compatible with 375W, 575W and 750W lamps. The proprietary HPL (High Performance Lamp) lamp uses a compact filament which concentrates the most light where it is efficient. At 575 watts, the HPL lamp is capable of producing the equivalent of a 1000W lamp using previous technology

      Comments about Arrilite 750 Plus:

The 750 provides the light I needed to do video at a low OSI. I shoot video with a Nikon D800, and I find that I can shoot at an ISO of 200 using two Arrilite 750. Originally I thought of using the 750 lamp for main and the 550 lamp for the fill. I've decided it is more practical to use the 750 lamp in both. If the fill needs to be less intense, I can simply back the fill light stand back or add a grid.

I ended up getting an extra set of the accessory holder. Why? One accessory holder is used for a soft box, allowing me to use the second accessory holder for the barn doors. I'm using the Impact 16x24" Luxbank Duo. They work fine. You do NOT want to use the interior diffuser when using constant light, because it gets too hot. In fact, you also want all four air vents to be open. Nor do you want to close the soft box at the back; just keep the flaps open to allow the heat to disperse.

Con: The on/off switch is located 4.5' down the cable. In most cases that puts the switch on the ground. If you don't mind bending over, it's not a big issue.

Pro: As you would hope for a constant light, it is perfectly quiet.

        Comments about Arrilite 750 Plus:

I'm a nertwork DP and I bought this light to replace a lost 1K Arrilite and it is fantastic! I love it. Everything about the design is perfect. It has a handle on the back to manipulate the instrument when it's hot. It disipates heat very well. They've redesigned the reflector and it puts out a lot of light! It's lighter and smaller than the 1K. The included speed ring is an added bonus to use with my soft-box. In short this instrument is awesome! I plan to buy another soon.

              Comments about Arrilite 750 Plus:

Arrilite 750 Plus is an elegant, versatile and durable open face tungsten light that maintains a relative low weight and profile, allowing it to be the workhorse of a one man crew or be a sturdy addition to a larger, well stocked professional kit.

In my mind you build a light kit the way you would light the scene. For most of us that begins with the key light, the primary light source illuminating the subject. That light for me must be the most versatile in power, amount of light it outputs and its quality, can I change it from a hard to a soft source. Now add the requirement of portability and low weight as I operate in a single man to a 2-3 person crew; in what we call independent filmmaking to ourselves and boutique production house to a client.

The Arrilite is rated at 750 watts but especially in digital, it seems much brighter than 800s I've worked with and stands firmly next to traditional small 1K lights such as the Lowell DP in output. Arri claims it is a more efficient reflector, and I am inclined to agree. Power versatility is achieved by taking a powerful source and stepping it down with scrims. The Arrilite takes the same accessories as the popular Arri 650 Fresnel so I can easily drop in her scrims to lower my power, sharing accessories between my 2 workhorses.

Arri approaches adding or removing scrims practically with a spring operated knob, the silver block on the top of the ring that will lift up and turn left or right to lock, allowing access to the scrim area. Turning back to original orientation the spring pushed it right back to a locking position, securing your scrims. Simple feature but worth noting a light is only suppose to do a few things and already Arri is making it easier.

The ring itself is removable and rotates freely around the rim of the light. It has 4 holes along it's circumference intended for 2 types of Chimera soft boxes branded under Arri and found in prepackaged Arri light kits. Here's one of them.

              http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/149963-REG/Arri_571159_Chimera_Video_Pro_Plus.html

Most off-brand softboxes work just fine and this could save you some money initially as any speed ring mounts the box through rods. The diameter may not fully match for the flexible nature of rods compensate for this. If your rods are thinner than the holes like mine, wrap gaff tape around the tips for a scratch-free and snug connection. Currently I am using a softbox from a shady website designed in the 90s selling plastic Britek tungsten lights. Mine can be attached to the Arrilite without removing the ring but f you need to remove the accessory ring it only requires a philips head screw driver. Note the bottom, locking block is spring loaded and will shoot out the screw and spring if you're not careful. Once that is done, the ring lifts out.

Bulb replacement is tool less and can be done on a stand. A thumb release on the black rear handle allows you to twist the rear portion of the light housing from the forward housing that is affixed to the yolk arm and thus to a stand. An internal safety cable gives you enough length to work so you may pull the bulb from it's friction locking seat, so you will end up with the rear section of the light in one hand and a bulb in the other while the rest of the light is safely sitting on the stand. Never touch the glass directly with bare hands, hold by the plastic base of the bulb and/or use a very clean cloth. This is really useful in a real life situation as you'll most likely need to replace a bulb when the light is mounted on a stand as it has most likely failed in use. Since you can safely pull the rear section freely out while the front section is firmly affixed to the stand and most likely has a softbox attached or whatnot. Again an elegant solution to what would be a laborious process in most lights that would of taken a screw driver and most of you would of torn down the light.

The single yolk arm is sturdy with a large washer between it and the housing creating a tight connection that even without locking down allows the head to remain in the same position out of sheer friction before locking the position in. An all metal body and parts allows a normal cooldown but it makes it very rigid and sturdy. The ring however is noisy when turned and is not flush with the face, rather it sits on the light like a large scrim and will have a bit of play. This is a slight annoyance as nothing moves if the light is stationary. I only notice the sound and the play when turning the accessory ring. Note this doesn't affect the light's output and if you had it on a crane and were moving it around in a scene there might be some jiggling but not much else.

Light quality is even, not super wide but again shooting through diffusion, soft box, bounce card or through a screen, it excels. As a hard source it has a throw you would expect from an average 1K. I don't have direct test comparisons but I haven't yet found myself surprised or let down from it's performance and again I treat it as a 1K in overheads and on set. Open face bouncing is another common use I have for it. Shooting into white ceilings or a reflector allows me to be space conscious in setups. Also there is a steel safety mess covering the face.

In conclusion this is a wonderful light that surprises you in how it simplified repetitive tasks while becoming the base of your lighting setup. For indoor and static setups use diffusions anyway you can but it is designed for softboxes especially. Carry it in a standard bay of a light case with room to spare.

If your looking at his light, buy it. Arri and her accessories are more expensive but worth it. If you've rented or use them in film school think how much they've been through and yet work. That's a hard ask. Filmmaking is not a hobby and like most of you I don't have backups on set. Do it and be pleasantly surprised.

Really love the built in Chimera ring. A lot of value there. It doesn't flood as wide as the Lowel DP light, so it doesn't fill the front diffusion of the Chimera Small Video Pro. But it's brighter and built better than the Lowel unit.

                      Comments about Arrilite 750 Plus:

Replacing the old Arri open-faces, this light takes previous design advantages and improves upon them, creating a sleek, multi-functional design. To begin, the single-stirrup makes handling very simple, and the friction-lock grip ensures that the light isn't going to slip once secured in place. Then there's the speed ring, this addition saves any prospective Chimera buyer a good deal of money, and although the rod slots are fixed, it doesn't take away from the usefulness of this feature.

The new rotation-lock for accessing the bulb-holder is a fantastic improvement, making replacing the bulb a breeze. And speaking of the bulb, with the new HPL lamps, output increases dramatically from previous designs. This bulb design, along with Arri's specialized reflector, makes the light very punchy for the wattage put in. With this does come a price though, this light gets exceptionally hot, but put at enough of a distance, this is no issue.

Bottom line: Arri succeeds once again with an exceptional and versatile light at a reasonable price. A must-have addition to any light kit.

                          Comments about Arrilite 750 Plus:

This light provides a nice even wash, uses minimal power and stays reasonably cool. It is light-weight but very solid. I use it with a Chimera soft box and I'm very pleased with the results.
