Product Highlights
  • Stereo 2-Way, Mono 3-Way
  • Subwoofer Output
  • Linkwitz-Riley Filters
  • Range Switch (x10)
  • 1/4" TRS Connectors

The 223s from dbx is a dual channel, stereo 2-way or mono 3-way crossover. A crossover is essential for efficient PA operation because it filters the full band input signal into specific frequencies that match a speaker's optimum frequency-reproduction range. This leaves the amplifier free to use its full power on the usable signal, eliminating distortion and delivering clear sound.

The unit features Linkwitz-Riley 24dB per octave filters, independent output gain controls for level matching, output phase inversion, 40Hz low cut filter, and optional mono summing of the low frequency (subwoofer) output. Quality components and meticulous attention to detail offers exceptional sound and rugged reliability, while exuding great precision from the solid "click" controls to the high quality 1/4" TRS inputs and outputs.

Comments about dbx 223s - Crossover (1/4" TRS):

I use this crossover as part of a bass rack. It has features that are tough to find elsewhere at this price point. One is a very effective 40 Hz subsonic filter that prevents cone flap at high volumes. Another is a wide range of selectable crossover frequencies. The unit is dead quiet, and this is the unbalanced (phone plug) version. I really don't know how dbx crams so many features into a crossover at this price point, but I'm not complaining!

The unit has a feel of quality to it -- both controls and metal fab. Seems likely to survive road work.

I did not check "professional recording" in the "best uses" section because I own the single-ended version. But if the balanced (XLR) version performs as well as this one -- and I see no reason it shouldn't -- then I wouldn't hesitate to recommend it for studio work as well.
