Product Highlights
  • 6x Carbon Fiber for Lightweight Rigidity
  • 60.2" Maximum Height
  • 26.5 lb Load Capacity
  • Weighs Only 3 lb
  • Folds Down to Only 21.8"

The Gitzo GT2540F Series 2 Safari 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod is an extremely lightweight 6x carbon fiber camera support (only 3 lb) that reaches a maximum height of 60.2" and bears up to 26.5 lb. Constructed of 6x carbon fiber, the legs provide excellent torsion rigidity.

The tripod's upper disc (called a "Power Disc"), composed of solid machined aluminum, features two locking screws, one to secure the head (not included) and the other to lock the disc onto the center column. The result is a rock-solid connection from the head to the center column. A head attaches to the tripod via either the included 1/4"-20 or 3/8"-16 screws.

The GT2540F's four leg sections are non-rotating, which means that you can loosen all three twist locks on any leg simultaneously, resulting in extremely fast setup.

Gitzo's G-Lock ("gravity lock") feature ensures that the strength of the leg lock increases with the amount of weight the tripod is supporting, offering a 20% increase in rigidity as well as faster operation and safer locking. Leg angles can be set independently at 24°, 55°, and for extreme low-angle shooting, 80°.

Another method of achieving low-angle shots is by reversing the center column and shooting with the camera in an upside-down orientation.

Center column is removable to enable the camera to sit as close to the ground as possible: Attach the upper disc directly to the upper casting using the column hook, so no tools are necessary
Ocean-Lock minimizes the amount of water and debris that may enter tubes and locking mechanisms. While not 100% waterproof, it dramatically enhances the capacity of the tripod to withstand extreme environments
Hook at the end of the center column allows you to add weight to increase the system's overall stability in windy conditions, on uneven terrain, or for when it's used with long lenses
Includes stainless steel spikes for feet, useful for extra stability on softer ground
Gitzo 6X advanced carbon fiber guarantees structural strength, flexion rigidity, and great vibration-absorption properties thanks to its advanced aerospace production technology and the exclusive inner structure. It is the highest density tube that's 100% made of top-quality, ultra-thin (7μm) carbon fibers: a 28mm tube contains 1.5 million carbon fibers

Comments about Gitzo GT2540F Series 2 Safari 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

Purchased to be used with a Leica APO 82mm angled spotting scope. Turn's
out to be at an almost perfect viewing height when used with Gitzo's Series 2
#GH2720FQR Birding head for my 5'11" height; without having to only extend the center column an inch or so up. Yet still keeping the balance point low enought so as not to be tippy! When used with my smaller and lighter 62mm & 65mm angled spotting scopes; it makes for a really nice compact, lightweight, & very portable package. An excellent birding spotting scope package of top quality material's and
quality that will last for many year's.

Comments about Gitzo GT2540F Series 2 Safari 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I have used this tripod in rainforests in Central Africa and Costa Rica, in dusty environments in South Africa, and on the snowy high peaks of NY state and I have never had a problem with it. It has works knee-deep in water (with a cleaning afterwards) and those long cold nights for star-trail photography. I see this tripod as an investment and it will last me a long time to come.

Comments about Gitzo GT2540F Series 2 Safari 4-Section Carbon Fiber Tripod:

I have had quite a few tripods in my life. Silk, Benro, Manfrotto, Velbon ... you name them, I´ve had them. I got my first Gitzo (GT3542LS) w. Wimberly Gimbal II head) about a year ago, for birding/wildlife and sports. Everything I had been told about Gitzo was right. I therefore decided to get the GT2540F, with a GH1780QR ball head. The first time you set it up you instantly feel the quality. Light, fast to set up and sturdy, with accurate movements and a distinct high quality feel. Compared to the other tripods I have, the Gitzos give you the same feeling as you get going from a cheap lens to a Canon L-series or a Zeiss. For a long hike I did, I used this tripod with the Wimberley head for my 400mm f2.8L II lens, including the 2xIII extender, giving me 800mm. It never felt unstable or overloaded in any way.I have smaller & lighter and larger & heavier tirpods, but this one provides the best stability/weight/quality ratio I could find in one package and it gives you that special it-will-last-forever feeling.
