I decided to purchase a Blue Yeti Pro mic as I was making a music video for a school project and needed a relatively easy to use mic to record decent quality recordings. I decided to go with the Blue Yeti Pro from all the positive reviews given on it so far.
It was recommended that I buy the Pro version of this mic over the normal one as there is a difference in sample rates. Basically, this mic is considered better for recording acoustic instruments.
The Blue Yeti Pro is VERY easy to use. Plug it in and off you go! For a usb microphone the sensitivity in which it picks up noises is also really good. Every time I take in a breath, the Blue Yeti Pro records me doing it! A little embarrassing, but goes to show the great recording capabilities of this mic.
The build quality of this mic is exceptional and is securely packaged in the box. I even had a little bit of trouble better the mic out of the moulded Styrofoam!
Having the four recording settings is really handy and Blue makes sure you know which one is which with a well written concise manual talking about the settings.
The only possible downside of this microphone is the issue of the low gain settings that many buyers may complain about. However, on the mac it is an easy fix. All you have to do is to click 'go' in the toolbar at the top of the screen, click on 'utilities' and find a application called 'Audio MIDI Setup'. Make sure the mic is connected to the mac before opening it up. Click on 'BLUE USB Audio 2.0' and turn the input and output settings up to the very right so that the values should be at 1. With that adjustment, the microphone should have more gain, so you don't have to turn the gain knob up all the way in a desperate bid for more gain.
The Blue Yeti Pro is also a fairly bulky, heavy mic. But since I don't move it around much, for me at least, this is not an issue.

Not sure why more people haven't mentioned this, but this mic has very low gain in USB mode. You have to turn the gain all the way up on the mic, and in your software to get useable sound. This is a known issue on The Yeti Pro, that the original Yeti USB mic does not have. The Yeti Pro also has driver issues in Windows 7, that can cause various problems, stuttering, drop outs, and high latency. As far as I know Blue has not addressed these problems.

If I hadn't gone beyond 30 days I would return this. If I can't get good results with the mic in analog mode, I'll sell it. From reading other reviews around the net The Yeti USB, the original mic, has good gain levels, and is usually plug and play. Wish I'd bought that.

Comments about Blue Yeti Pro USB & XLR Microphone:

This mic is great. I use it with a Rode Podcast boom mount and the radaris shockmount. Be careful when you unscrew it from the current base. There are washers inside the knobs that can get lost. Sound quality is excellent.

I use the Yeti Pro for voice overs for eLearning modules. The end product from the Yeti Pro is outstanding, no need to go buy an $ + Microphone as this produces crystal quality. At present I don't have anything I dislike about it, If I was to be picky I would say it is a bit bulky and you have to fiddle with the universal Blue pop filter to attach it (but no you don't have to drill any holes to fit the blue universal pop filter)Great product and great company to buy from, very efficient. I will be buying more equipment from B&H

Comments about Blue Yeti Pro USB & XLR Microphone:

We've been using one of these Mic's were I work for some time. It's a great USB mic, but when we purchased a second we discovered that you can not use 2 mic's at the same time via USB. I spoke with customer support at Blue and found that it is not possible at all to use 2 Yeti Pro Mic's via USB at the same time on a Mac because the mic's all use the same chip inside so the computer will only recognize one at a time. I had to purchase an audio interface so I could plug both mic's in using the analog ports. So if you know you only need one mic then go ahead and pic up one of these, but if you're planning to plug in two, don't pick up this mic, get an interface and two analog only mics.

Purchased this microphone after using the Blue Yeti for a bit over a year. They are both excellent performers but the Yeti Pro has just a bit more crispness which makes it an outstanding microphone for Karaoke. Having both the USB and XLR enables me to use it at home and out when performing. overall just a great piece of equipment

This never worked because it could not communicate with the downloaded software. Called customer service and they did everything they could, but they issued a prepaid labels so I can send into them. Bought another one and same thing happened.
I like the idea of this, because we do podcast with physical audience participation and can (if this ever works) switch from cardioid to omni without having 2 mics.

The microphone itself is a great tool - well built, solid. The vintage styling makes a great visual addition to a small studio. Sound is great, especially when run through XLR output to the Apogee Digital ONE. However, the mic itself is so fat that no standard shock mounts fit it, and I am sad to say that the shock mount made by Blue (the RADIUS) is just awful.

Comments about Blue Yeti Pro USB & XLR Microphone:

I purchased Blue Microphones Yeti Pro after spending several days researching USB microphones. Its main purpose for our studio is to record video tutorials, SKYPE, and the occasional studio recording. After unboxing the mic we were impressed with the build quality and styling.

The disappointment came when we plugged the mic into the year-old iMac running OSX 10.7.3. We followed Blue's instruction booklet to the letter and were alarmed when the audio recording was extremely quiet. After over an hour of testing at various gain levels and OSX audio settings, we could not resolve the issue. We've also tested this on two other Mac Pros and experienced the same gain problem and they are running 10.6.8.

After a little online research I discovered many other people who have experienced this problem as well. It seems that it's not simply a Mac problem. Several Windows users have experienced similar problems.

I sent a tech support request to Blue Microphones and several days later received a response stating the following...

"We have had issues with the Yeti Pro's gain in the past, but our engineering department has recently found a solution to fix the Yeti Pro mics already sold. This requires the return of your unit & is covered under the warranty."

Today I received a brand new replacement unit from them and after several hours of testing we're experiencing the exact same gain issue we had previously experienced.

Don't buy this microphone if you intend to use it as a USB microphone. More than likely it won't perform as well as it should.

My experience with Blue Microphones has been extremely frustrating and has left me with absolute resolve never to buy one of their products again. I'll also never recommend this USB mic to clients or colleagues or anyone else for that matter. It's been a terrible experience.

Comments about Blue Yeti Pro USB & XLR Microphone:

The best USB microphone is in a category of itself and should not be compared with non-USB microphone.

The sound recorded through this best USB microphone does not have the clarity of other professional microphone.

A wind screen is strongly recommended to avoid the clipping noises.
