      Sounds great, weighs a lot

      By Mr D

Comments about Blue Reactor Professional Studio Condenser Microphone:

I read the reviews and knew it was good microphone. But I did buy for its looks as well. With its Atomic Age mount and Master Cylinder mode selector it is an impressive looking microphone. Fortunately it sounds great. I use focusrite preamps into a Mac running Logic X. I love the way the head swivels and can put the mic where it needs to go with little fuss. I am especially grateful it sounds full and lush on Acoustic Guitar. Vocals sound immediate and warm. I bought two so I also use them as a stereo pair and the Omni setting is great just for capturing a room.

      Top Heavy

      By Arch Filmmaker

Comments about Blue Reactor Professional Studio Condenser Microphone:

This is strictly about a non-audio quality issue.

While this is a beautiful piece of kit, the design of the included shock mount has two issues that are already driving me a little batty.
      1) the tightening screw for the mount can't seem to get tight enough to really be secure. One slight tap on the top of the mic, when mounted, causes the assembly to tip right over!

      2) This thing is a solidly built unit, but HEAVY. In fact the microphone is incredibly top heavy, as you might guess by looking at the pictures. Well when mounted to the shock mount, the microphone easily tips to the side. Which then I. Turn causes the issue in part one of this review. So don't use this in any type of active studio. Where the floors might bounce even a little. Or the whole assembly feels like it would go crashing down. Even if the entire microphone stand stays up, it would look very unprofessional just tipping over in the middle of an important recording.

Comments about Blue Reactor Professional Studio Condenser Microphone:

I bought a pair of these when B&H had them on sale---I wish I would have bought three (Decca Tree). Just a great sounding, noise-free Blue mic, at a price of other entry-level mult-pattern mics. Unbeatable deal from B&H. The packaging, case, accessories, info & support just sweetened the deal. The shockmount appears to be the improved version---sturdy and stable. I don't really agree with the design concept from the standpoint of placement utility but, boy, what a beatifully crafted piece of metal (don't expect to use anything but a quality boom stand with it). Either you love or hate the looks but there would be much broader consensus on the quality of the sound this mic puts out. If it goes on sale again, treat yourself!

Comments about Blue Reactor Professional Studio Condenser Microphone:

The sound of this mic is absolutely fantastic. It has a completely wide-open sound, but requires decent mic technique when recording vocals as the proximity effect is very pronounced in cardoid mode. Also recorded a few acoustic guitar tracks with it, and it sounds equally as good. Its got a great high-end shimmer or airiness to it, but by no means sounds shrill. Auditioned the Reactor against a TLM-103 on a couple vocalists (2 females and one male), and all three times the vocalists chose the Reactor - which was a bit surprising.Probably going to purchase another one for stereo recording in the future. For the price (especially at B&H), and given its a multi-pattern mic, I can't think of a better microphone.

Comments about Blue Reactor Professional Studio Condenser Microphone:

I love the build quality of this mic. It is better than expected. The weight is a bit heavy but I can appreciate that especially when it's in the shock mount because the weight helps stable it in the bouncy mount.

The sound quality is awesome and the multi-pattern feature is a must.
