The B+W 77mm 1.8 ND MRC 106M Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 6 stop exposure. This 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the overall coloration of the image.
The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.
B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

Comments about B+W 77mm 1.8 ND MRC 106M Filter:
The product quality to top-notch. It's light, thin, the brass rings make it easy to equip, and the glass couldn't be nicer.
It's pricey, but it's worth the extra coin.

I have only used this a few times for portraits in order to allow me to shoot wide open and light my subject with flash. It worked well. I also plan to use it for landscapes.

I generally don't use filters except to produce a look that I can't otherwise get. When I do need a filter to get a desired look I turn to B&W for their high quality optics. Highly recommended.

Allows shooting in bright light and lowers shutter speed for blurs. Colors saturate as well.

Comments about B+W 77mm 1.8 ND MRC 106M Filter:
This is a very dark neutral density filter. It is well made and well coated--you get exactly what you ask for. On that basis it's 5 stars. However . . .
You may need to frame and pre-focus before you attach the filter (a pain with a screw-on filter and when changing your location and focus), and your metering system may not work so you'll have to bracket your shots. In other words, it takes more care to get just exactly the shot you want.
But knowing that, this is terrific for slowing water down and maybe even eliminating moving objects--even in pretty bright condition.
