Product Highlights
  • 1.8 Neutral Density Filter
  • Increase Exposure Length
  • Rugged Black Brass Filter Ring
  • High Quality Schott Glass

The B+W 77mm 1.8 ND 106 Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 6 stop exposure. This 1.8 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the coloration of the image and are ideal for pairing with other filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

1.8 ND filter darkens the image, allowing you to photograph with a longer shutter speed or wider aperture than normally required.
Providing a 6 stop exposure reduction, this filter allows you to control depth of field and convey movement more easily.

I use this instead of a Vari-density filter. It is easier to meter with and does not cause vignette.

        High Quality!!

        By Chip

        Comments about B+W 77mm 1.8 ND 106 Filter:

High quality ND filter from B+W!! Fits perfectly and with ease on my 77mm threaded Canon L lenses. I use it for slowing down shutter speeds to photograph waterfalls in NC. I see no sign of a color shift or significant flare when using it. I often combine with a B+W 0.9 ND (3-stop) to get a total 9-stop ND. I have no problems combining them with the exception of some minor vignetting at 24-25mm on a full frame Canon 6D. It is cheaper than getting a separate 9-stop ND filter.Definitely pay the extra $$$ to get the MRC versions.

          Comments about B+W 77mm 1.8 ND 106 Filter:

I've had good experiences with B+W filters and highly recommend them. The brass rings means easy on and easy off. I've struggled with other brands getting stuck on lenses, but never a B+W. Handy to have several different ND options for shooting timelapse when consistent & long Shutter speeds are required (waterfalls, waves, ect.)

                    Comments about B+W 77mm 1.8 ND 106 Filter:

I had been using lighter ND filters up to this point. While they helped, they just weren't strong enough for the photographs I wanted to take. I wanted to avoid stopping down to f/22 as well as wanting longer exposures.I wasn't sure if this filter would be too dark to work with. During a trip to Washington this month (June) I found that my entry level body (Canon T2i) metered just fine. Of course the glass is too dark for the viewfinder to be of any use, but I could generally see well enough with Live View to compose and focus. You won't get the clearest view, but it's workable and much easier than composing/focusing and then screwing the filter on.I have yet to experiment with this filter in bright sunlight or at the beach, but I would expect that it's dark enough to be quite useful in those situations.I'm extremely pleased with the new opportunities that this filter gives me while shooting my preferred overcast forest scenes. I'm even considering purchasing another so that I won't need to switch this one between two lenses.

I know there's the 9-stop ND around, but that's too much for me. This one is great 6-stop, when I need more, I can combine it with my Singh-Ray 2-stop.

Always been with B+W and Singh-Ray.

I bought this filter so that I could used long shutter speeds to blur motions of water in my landscapes. I tested the filter this weekend and I did not seem to loose any sharpness in my static subjects but it blurred the water. The only problem is that it has a warm cast. The cast can be easily removed in post processing. I am going to do some further testing and see is setting my camera on automatic white balance solves the problem. In any case it can be corrected in post processing.

                                        Comments about B+W 77mm 1.8 ND 106 Filter:

I use this for landscape shots with moving water and also for outdoor video where the goal is to shoot with a wide aperture. I find that this works well for blurring water, better, in my opinion, than the 1.0 ND filters. In open shade, I can usually get around an 8 second or longer exposure at f13. Longer when the sun is below the horizon or behind a mountain. For video, it is also just about right, getting me out of the f22 or f16 realm and down to 5.6 or so for a more pleasing, shallower DOF. I don't detect any color cast or any other aberration. Nice glass.

B+W filter is a must have. I always thought Hoya were good but they don't come close. B+W are more expensive but worth every dollar.

This 6 stop ND filter is great for knocking down light in order to get longer shutter settings when photographing moving water, clouds, etc.Only minor issue is the very flimsy carrying case which is easily damaged. Otherwise this would have rated 5 stars.
