Questions? Ask our experts:

The B+W 72mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter is a solid neutral density filter providing a 10 stop exposure. This 3.0 density creates a darkening of the entire image, allowing you to photograph with a wider aperture or slower shutter speed than normally required. By slowing your exposure time or increasing your aperture, you are able to control depth of field and convey movement more easily. Neutral density filters do not affect the overall coloration of the image.

The Multi-Resistant Coating (MRC) is both an anti-reflection coating as well as a protective surface. It helps to increase light transmission by reducing reflections, scattered light, and ghosting. Additionally, it offers greater protection to the filter substrate and stays cleaner for longer than uncoated filters.

B+W filters are constructed from high quality Schott glass for increased optical clarity and color fidelity. They feature a brass filter ring for durability as well as jamming prevention.

    Comments about B+W 72mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter:

I've used various brands of filters, and when I thought I didn't need the best, ended up paying the price in quality. So only B+W for me.

      Comments about B+W 72mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter:

With many long term time lapse cameras in the field we have spent a lot of money on many ND filters. The lack of color change is the best of the lot in these. But the Pro series, although tested the same as their cheaper filters, was remarkable after a month in the field. It really stays cleaner than the others!

Purchased this for my Fuji 10-24 XF lens. Far superior to the Tiffen 6-stop variable ND filter that I had been using. Got some great moving cloud shots with Chicago skyline. Great German quality.

This ND filter works beautifully. Run your exposures for longer without overexposing. The colour cast was minimal (and easily fixed with white balance), and the filter allowed me to expose for 60 seconds. Good solid construction, doesn't feel cheap.

            Comments about B+W 72mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter:

I bought this filter to photograph solar eclipses. Usualy the astronomical solar filters are designed for viewing and reduce so much the light (relieving the observer´s eyes) that the exposure goes down to about 1/60, depending of the ISO and f-stop used. Increasing ISO would be stupid. I made tests with this filter alone and adding a 0.9ND. The last combination cuts 13 stops so that I can use 1/2000 F/11 at ISO 50 and get good definition of Sun spots (400mm lens on a Sony SLT-77. The multicoating was very effective and I didn't see any reflection or flare. The SLT camera was helpful as I used the LCD screen and didn't stare straight to the sun. I just wonder how long can I point the sensor to the sun without dammaging it. Will it stand a full solar eclipse? Anyway, better damage my camera than my eyes!!!

              Comments about B+W 72mm 3.0 ND MRC 110M Filter:

After looking around for very dark ND filters to stop waterfalls and other motion during daytime, where I wanted 5-10 second exposures, I decided to give this one a shot.

I realized after ordering this filter that I accidentally ordered the 72mm rather than the 77mm I had first intended. I didn't expect to really have much use for this with my 72mm lenses, but I decided to have a go with it anyways.

I was very happy when I opened my first batch of photos using this filter on my computer. The color balance is great and I had no flare issues, despite somewhat challenging conditions.

I'll be ordering another one of these for my 77mm lenses too!
